gday guys sorry if its getting a bit repetitive starting a thread for every new player on the market but what are everyone's thoughts on us getting ray. i rate him and i think hed be a great addition with his pace and imo better going for him then cousins or kerr. However we would have to give something to the doggies what do you reckon we could get away with? We know they are looking for a tall forward but i think the only one people would suggest is kozi and i dont think we can give him up especially not for just ray. So what do you guys reckon?

I reckon we've had enough duds from other clubs. And we wouldn't be able to get a deal going anyway. However Ray and their first pick for Kosi sounds good, but i dont think it'll happen.

If we are to trade Kosi, it would be for a player we absolutely need or if we think this year's U/18 crop are one of the high quality years i.e. draft picks.

Not sure Ray's skills are at a level that we would bust our @rse chasing him. Interesting to hear he has asked to be traded though.

I reckon The question that needs to be asked is this - WHY were his opportunities "limited" at the dogs. I dunno if they've got a a Geelong-esque overload of talent so, that considered, if he's not good enough to break into the side and if Rocket suggested he would be lucky to break into it next year then, even if he went cheap, could he potentially be another dud receycled player?

well hed be top of the duds:p better then mini and jones and he is quite skillful and probably quicker then the majority of our midfielders. i think you underestimate their midfield depth - cooney, cross, boyd, gia few others where we next yr top line will have ball, hayes, dal santo thats about it then the rest and imo ray would be at the top and hes only 21.

Why are you doing the used car dealer thing?
He is 22 and will be 23 before next season starts.

His average disposals over the last 3 years have been 18, 15, and 19. This is less than what Jones averaged this year and I expect more from Jones next year.
During his first decent season (2005) he averaged 10 disposals, similar to David Armitage this year.
Grass is always greener.:D

no..............

Does anyone reckon any club would give ANYTHING, like anything for Fiora. I don't care if it's their 20th round pick or 2 bucks out of the coach's pocket. Any offer whatsoever i'll take for Fiona.

Definatley. He's still contracted for next year. That unfortuante club could take his contract off our hands.

And no to Ray. We are just about to get rid of Fiora after 5 years. We don't need another frustratingly talentless hack for another 5 years.
LIST CLOGGER!

haha well its interesting to note that in this morning's paper it stated that the eagles and freo are chasing him but st kilda are apparently also keen as well. i think subi would suit him because hes quick and good skills. i understand the whole possession debate raised compared to jonse possessions and i agree that jones is quite useful especially with his pressure but id say rays 16 possessions would be more quality then jones 22 because majority of jones are handballs getting teammates into trouble at times.

This kid has Fiona MK II written all over it. Very early pick, looks talented, promises but delivers nothing, outside player got a bit of pace and a good foot but can't go in for the hard ball or tackle. DEAD RINGER FOR FIONA, DON'T TAKE HIM SAINTERS!!

Seems to me someone at the StKilda club is having fun with the press by claiming great interest in any and every rumoured trade. :D
Either that or the club have in fact adopted the Nexus plan.

He's a perth boy. That's where he'll end up.

This bloke isn't going to help us improve next year.

END THREAD.

My thoughts exactly, Farren Ray has pace which we need but is too fragile, too prone to making basic skill errors and turning the ball over, ie. just like Fiora.

Most Bulldogs supporters seem quite happy to get rid of him too which tells you something. We don't need any more of other clubs rejects.

I agree, let's take a look at other rejects (recent past and present) and rate their performance for our club:
Fiora: ...nuf said
Birss: Just a bit better than Fiora
G-Train: Good. But comeback, not so good.
Gram: Going well.
Charlie: Not that good.
King: So-so
Michael G: Too many injuries.
Dempster: Not the worst.
Schneider: Good, but not great.
Powell: (gone) Not that good.
Guerra: (gone) Didn't work for us.
Brooks: (gone) ...worse than Fiona, yes, that bad.

The list keeps going, so I'll stop there and say:
ST.KILDA, DO NOT TAKE FARREN RAY!

Bit depressing when you add it all up isn't it. Mind you we probably haven't been as bad as some clubs when it comes to trading disasters, Fremantle and Richmond being just two that spring to mind.

Definately dont want him. He is a very outside player with average skills. We have enough of them. Maybe Fiora for Ray and their 2nd round pick.
Fiora for Ray and their second round pick which we could use in the draft then if we could swap ray for another pick that would solve the problem, could get rid of two duds for two good draft picks Some how i dont think something like would be possible, the only other option is to stay away from the dud ray and i guess we are still stuck with Fiora.

This one (Ray) is getting more interesting :

North Melbourne's surprising decision to place ruckman Hamish McIntosh on the trade table appears unlikely to produce anything more for the club than a disgruntled player, as the majority of clubs are baulking at the Roos' asking price of an early-to-mid first round draft choice.

St Kilda, Carlton, Sydney and Richmond offered typical reactions to McIntosh's availability yesterday. While all expressed appreciation for his talent and, in some cases, a need for a ruckman, none said they would give up their picks in the first round of one of the strongest drafts in years.

Similarly, St Kilda wants to hold on to its picks and, for the first time in several years, has more than the minimum three choices in the national draft. This thinking will not only preclude it from doing anything meaningful with McIntosh but has made remote any possibility of Western Bulldogs mid-fielder Farren Ray crossing over to the Saints.

The Dogs are looking for a second round pick for Ray but may get no closer to that than West Coast's third round selection, pick 36, or Fremantle's third round choice, pick 37. The Saints have indicated they will not part with pick 31 for the 22 year-old.

Bulldogs' football manager James Fantasia was told yesterday that Ray will not agree to remain at Whitten Oval under any circumstances.

"It's up to the Bulldogs to get a deal done because otherwise he'll go through the pre-season draft," said Ray's manager, Rick Olarenshaw, who spoke with Fantasia yesterday. "Farren wants to see a win-win deal struck. He'd like to get to the club of his choice and see the Bulldogs get something in return. That would be good. If not, then he will go for nothing.

You have got to be joking. Ray and a draft pick for Fiora ???????? He's as big a dud than Ray is, maybe more so. And secondly you definately wouldn't get a second pick on its own for Foira.
