Over the last few years there have been a lot of body positivity movements (AKA a bunch of fat feminists getting half naked to protest against fat shaming, see link below for an example.

Personally I'm ****ing sick of people complaining about being discriminated against for obesity. In 95% of cases your weight is because you eat shit, live a sedentary lifestyle and are generally unhealthy. To me it's the same thing as people getting a visible tattoo and then playing the discrimination card when employers won't hire them because of it.

Over to you GD

Obesity in a nutshell, is food addiction.

You could live the most active lifestyle, never smoke or drink alcohol, but if you eat too much you'd still be fat.

And with that, there seems to be a proportion of society that is more nasty in the way they treat fat people compared to alcoholics or gambling addiction.

But on the flip side, there also seems to be more of an increasing acceptance of being overweight, possibly even too much.

Fact of the matter is, fat shaming isn't the way to go. It's a problem, the whole idea of it is irregardibly moronic.

And the reason why there is such a large compensation of fat acceptance, is because of fat shaming.

No, we shouldn't be promoting an overweight lifestyle. Rather than flaunting ones food addiction and unhealthy lifestyle, we should focus on rehabilitating people to a healthier lifestyle.

But fat shaming is something that is pointless and should have no place in a perfect society.

I'm sorry but to say that everyone who is overweight is battling with food addiction is a massive stretch.

What I do agree with is that there are a minority of people with addictions and health issues which lead to uncontrollable obesity but this is not the norm.

I agree that shaming is not the way to resolve the obesity epidemic but by sitting here and actively accepting fat lazy ****s promoting obesity as beautiful and healthy is contributing further to the issue in my opinion as it is no longer being viewed as unacceptable.

No fat shaming is not a problem. Fat acceptance is for more of an issue.

More likely to face judgement for being skinny or having an athletic body than being fat in this stupid ****ing PC world these days

Why would you bother shaming somebody? It's not impacting you much at all. I'm all for just letting people go about their lives - fat or thin.

I've changed the title to fat acceptance, I think it's more along the lines of where the thread should go.

I dont care what a person looks like. Im classed as "Obese" by the BMI and I have a bit of a gut for my height. Ive tried diets, fads but as soon as I lose weight, I gain it.

I found I would rather enjoy eating food, than be skinny and miserable through calorie counting. Everything in moderation.

Fat acceptance is definitely a problem.

I'm also not a huge fan of the over-the-top lauding of people who have lost a lot of weight. A pat on the back is in order (akin to "good job, but don't do it again") but people who don't balloon out and who exercise self-control are more deserving of respect.

I've never been fat in my life, so maybe I'm just a privileged shitlord.

I think circa 90% of fat people are like that due to laziness (i.e. diet, exercise, life choices etc). I saw a fat teenager yesterday walking around a shopping centre with his family and he was carrying a half full 2 litre bottle of chocolate milk. Satuated fat and as much sugar as Coca Cola - FFS. Just think of the increased strain on the public health system in years to come.

How is it a massive stretch?

Is the fat acceptance movement really preaching the healthiness of it? Seems unlikely to me.

As for the beautiful part, beauty for the most part is subjective so I can't see why anyone would have a problem with that.

Not really into fat shaming but it's hard to have respect for someone that doesn't have respect for themselves
Why does being fat equate to having no respect for themselves?

I am 187cm tall and weigh 101kgs. This means I have a BMI of 28.9. This is just below the obese range. Now, I acknowledge that I am overweight, but I am not a big fan of the BMI. 25yrs ago when I was in Yr 12, I was fit as a fiddle and weighed 70kgs. The BMI says I should weigh between 64.7kgs and 87.1kgs. There is no chance that I could drop to say 65kgs. That would be extremely unhealthy.

True. I don't imagine say Darren Jarman or David Boon are lacking in confidence or respect for themselves. They're just fat cause they like to eat and drink.
They lack respect for their health and wellbeing.

"We must shame people, otherwise their fatness will become accepted"

Fair dinkum these people

Has anyone in this thread actually said we should go around insulting fatties?

Just because we don't tolerate this "beautiful at any size" horseshit doesn't mean we're advocate being a campaigner.

My physiology course earlier this year said that because we existed so long with food so scarce our bodies became exceptionally efficient at storing nutrients to in order to give us a better chance of surviving between meals.

Now we have an abundance of food and a lot of which is junk. So if you're sedentary and have a poor diet/high alcohol consumption there's a high chance you're going to be overweight.

It's partially a physiological problem, but mainly a personal choice issue.

Lol @ addiction.
