Saw Darren Kowal's name brought up on Demonland in a thread about Jack Viney's #7 jumper which has inspired this thread.

So I thought we could have a thread based purely on 1990's MFC players and memories.

I absolutely loved Sean Wight (RIP) and Shaun Smith as a young tacker. Wight was a Superhero in the backline with that awesome moustache and I loved Smith for his hangers and grey hair.

Like most Melbourne fans at the time I loved Garry Lyon and met him a couple of times when I was around 6 or 7. He was SUPER nice to me on both occasions. Seems like a bit of a tosser in the media and probably is one in real life but he definitely had a way with the kids!

Who were your favourite players of the 90s?

My older sister (also a Dees fan) loved Ivan Bartul - not for his football ability - full credit to anyone that remembers this dude without resorting to google.

Jakovich was the fave when I was a tacker. Had the number 13 on my jumper as a kid.

Marcus Seecamp deserves some love too...

Jackovich, Charles

I played a few games with Sean up in the country after he'd finished his AFL career.

I distinctly remember one day calling for the ball as I was in the clear a few metres ahead of him only to see him turn on the after burners at scorch past me before slotting from ~45. It was incredible to see.

Stynes and Lyon probably the big two. Although I did have #5 on my first guernsey. Those three, plus a handful of lesser favourites in Tingay, Ingerson, Farmer, Febey bros.

I was born in 1990 so don't remember a whole lot of Jakovich to be completely honest. Still love him though.

Ox was good early when he could mark over head. loved the game at victoria park where he was thrown into defense and out marked the collingwood forwards.

charles was exiting because of the pace and jakovich was a great forward hindered by injury

stynes was indestructible and lyon was good when he was on

the wizard was a definite favorite

surprisingly nobody's mentioned a young neitz back in the day with the bowl cut?
