Couldn't care less if he wears it or not.

It is a sponsorship logo. Not the Aussie coat of arms or anything.

The only people who could possibly care are VB. If they don't mind, why should the public?

Interestingly Usman Khawaja is also a muslim but he does wear the VB logo on his cricket shirts.

I guess it all comes down to how strictly they practice their religion.

Not all Catholics practice no sex before marraige, but I am sure some do.

Has happened quite a bit in sport over the years. It's just Australians have mastered the art of faux outrage.

My own personal opinion is i think anyone who gets offended by what they are wearing is being a bit stupid, but everyone has their own belief system and should be entitled to adhere to it.

Some (ie Doug Walters) get so tied up in thinking drinking beer is so intertwined in Australian identity and culture that they say "All right then don't play if you don't want to wear the uniform". Personally I've been questioned about my Australianness because I don't drink.

But sponsorships come and go, therefore I don't think it can be reasonably argued a sponsors logo is part of the "uniform".

Ussie clearly doesn't care for whatever reason, despite being a practicing muslim.

It's on all of Khawaja's state gear (XXXX Queensland Bulls) so he probably just doesn't care.

Ussie also been in australia for 20 odd years, probably much more acclimatized to alcohol advertising and having booze as a bigger part of aussie culture. as opposed to Fawad

Hilarious to read the twitter post from some old rugby player about Fawad "should go home" and "why did he come to Australia anyway".

Yeah, go home to join or be killed by the Taliban. Why even bother coming to Australia, life was much better over there!

The only notable aspect of this story is that the rugby guy is a moron. Not anything to do with a choice over advertising or sponsorship. VB (the only party who theoretically could be upset about Fawad's choice) agreed to it for crying out loud, so no one else should have a problem with it.

I've always wished more high profile athletes would refuse to wear sponsors on their uniforms -

I know I wouldn't be wearing any TABSPORTS shit on my jumper if I played for St Kilda

Good to see morals are still alive and kicking...

Did any old fart South Africans [their version of Doug Walters & David Campese] sports people get outraged when Amla chose not to wear the Castle logos ?
I don't recall any and commentators never even bother mentioning it.

to be honest i don't remember. they may have, but it would have never rated a mention in australia anyway.

it's a complete non issue. it's just hitting the press cause he's an easy target and as i've said many times this year, australian's are becoming very good at faux outrage.

^^ That bozo Campese, has a habit of puttin' his foot in his mouth.

No surprises that he was famous for his "goose-step"

Campese might talk some shit in the media but the guy has cred as a rugby union player.

Arguably the greatest Wallaby of the last 30 odd years and stayed true to the Wallabies back in the old amateur days when he could have switched to rugby league for mega bucks.

The guy has runs on the board in terms of loyalty to an Australian national sports team.

Dont see an issue with it. Least its him in the side not that dud Doherty.

It's only people pushing an agenda that care at all about this really.

I know I wouldn't be wearing any TABSPORTS shit on my jumper if I played for St Kilda

That is the can of worms scenario in this situation though.

I think the majority accept (or don't loudly protest) about alcohol advertising as it so embedded.

With the Tom Waterhouse saturation of advertising it rubbed a hell of a lot more people up the wrong way.

It wouldn't be inconceivable that a handful of players on an AFL list of 44 have had someone in their family, or extended family, seriously affected by gambling. What would happen if they all refused to promote a gambling company on that basis, rather than on religious grounds?

Yeah but he's a nong off the field and he lost the 89 Lions series for us. on it I think, not unlike Alan Jones, Campos credits have long since expired.

It's like he and Neil Harvey are having a long running contest for australia's biggest dickhead ex sportsmen.

Campo was as eccentric on the field as he is off it, had his brilliant moments along with his screw ups.

Who can forget his blind flick over the shoulder to Tim Horan in the 1991 Rugby World Cup, pure genius.

Gordon Bray loved him, he was to Gordon what Cyril Rioli is to Bruce McAvaney.

He might be a dickhead media whore now but you can't knock his credentials as a rugby player, I'd take him over Peter Fitzsimons but that's not saying much.
