What you, me and others who post here think is irrelevant.

The election won't be decided by politicallly aware folk like those who post here.

Look at how few BigFooty users come here - that's an example of the level of real interest out there. And probably knowledge too.

So is there any interest and as voting is compulsory , who will you scratch out on paper?

The 2 main choices or other will do

As much as I'm not a fan of Howard - I really think the planet has passed the "Lowest Common Denominator" policies of those of a socialist persuasion in politics.

Whether we like it or not (and I don't FWIW) we live in a global community and global economy now - and we can no longer protect the rights of the little man....just because we always have. Harshly.....we need to try and shape the change rather than try and insulate from it.

There have been a lot of poor choices politically over the last 11 years - but I think a return to protectionism is not the way to go at this point.

Many years ago in this country, the relevance of local govt was diminished as the State Govt assumed greater powers. Over the last 30 years we have observed the dilution of relevance in State Govts as the country "shrinks" as a result of better transport, immediacy of communications...the need for a common approach across the federation .....etc etc. The same is beginning to happen on a global scale with our industry, workforce, and lifestyle increasingly shaped by happenings in what are expanding rather than separate markets abroad....and so a return to policies that will resist this evolution rather than try and run with it would be a backward step.

Yes - There have been some poor judgements morally - but we will live and die by economic policy over the next 20 years - especially in a burgeoning region as a small economy with a very different cultural basis.

Buy hey.....according to the latest figures...Im sure around 65% of the population disagree with me.

:)

Good post MD :thumbsu:

But I'm still voting Rudd as I DO think there should be some moral compass in politics...otherwise we will slowly allow any action to be taken on our behalf

I agree with this PC - so maybe that's an issue about the need for leadership change rather than policy change.

I'll be casting a vote for the coalition at this stage. I'm not a huge fan of Howard, Costello, Downer, Brough (I do however like Turnbull) i live in fear of people like Wayne Swan, Stephen Smith, Anthony Albanese, Jenny Macklin and Julia Gillard being placed in positions of power.

If a vote for Labor was a vote for the Kevin Rudd party i might do it, but after a year or two the aforementioned Labor heavyweights will get sick of his leadership and the unions will try and put one of their men in who will completely kill the whole country*

*Ok that was a slight exxageration.

I'm thinking of preferencing the coalition just so my BF moniker retains relevance.
Its really a choice between "I'm a complete dickwad" and "I'm trying to be a complete dickwad". Might as well go for the real thing rather than the try-hard wannabe.

Coalition.

Kevin Rudd is merely a trojan horse acceptable to the idiots who watch Sunrise.

Once he's in clowns like Gillard, Swan, Albanese, Macklin, etc will take over & the Unions will run riot.

Hopefully people wake up and see through Rudd spin & schmaltz before it's too late.

Why do people have such a fear of unions? It's not like Rudd is going to let them get out of control anyway. He has even stated that a Labor win won't be as good for the unions as the unions believe (obviously better than a Howard win though).

I don't think most people do have that big a fear of unions, and the coalition might be shooting themselves in the foot with some of their rhetoric.
While people don't want a union controlled government, most people are sensible enough to know that won't happen. Influence, probably, but not control. The ALP ran the WorkChoices fear campaign, the Libs counter with the Union Rule fear campaign.

Howard has shown an ability to build, and then exploit, fear that is both unjustified and previously non-existent. Its been an election winning tactic in the past, and could still work this time. (Though I suspect his real fear campaign is yet to come, and will exploit existing fears about Islam.)

As opposed to Labor pointing out the Climate Change and IR boogeymen:rolleyes:

I am going with the Donkey vote, as most seem to be jackasses anyway ;) Nah seriously I am going labor, always vote them, well since I started voting at least.

Wow that's some elitest crap. Just because people can't be bothered to argue every point with the commies that inhabit that board doesn't mean the rest of us aren't aware/interested.

Goodness knows why given the ALP won't have control of the senate therefore everything they do will be measured and amended. But we as a country decide that its ok for the coalition to control both houses and we end up with Workchoices. The hypocrisy of some is amazing - its ok if we control both houses but the world will end if the opposition should. As I said amazing.

PS - who are the minor parties preferencing?

I know who I'm voting for but prefer not to say. I'm not voting Howard though.

I dont understand how people get all excited about this rubbish though. I mean come on, all of the politicians lie. Its ridiculous. All these little benefits everyone has and $X will be put aside to so and so. What a joke!

Why im goin Liberal & National is im a country man . And i dont want Labour have control of the whole country, cos they have every state in there hands and if they win they will be able to do anything the want (IMO)

Liberal... Kevin Rudd looks like an annoying school kid, as well as that his deputy is Julia Guilard (shivers).... No ****ing way will they run the country, add to that the unions and you have yourself a disaster. The Coalition have done a good job with our country, you can bitch and moan about work choices etc but the fact is we are in a good state economically and in the global scheme of things.
