It was a minor fault on world class subs ...

I am sure the Labor government could've had them fixed aswell, I dont think that made much of a difference, its not like they have the chance!!

Even the US have been impressed with them

A fault none the less. A fault that could have led to them being blown out of the water.

Oh maybe ... but it was a fault that was found after they were made. It would've been impossible to detect the fault until they were water ready.

The main thing is that they are now top class subs that WE have (well we have to have something!)

:( Im afraid the people of Australia dont care about real issues, collapse of corporate giants, retail businesses struggling with the GST, pensioners disadvantaged because of same, hospitals in chaos, public schools disentegrating etc etc etc It seems Howards clever use of Hansonism politics has won him many a fan ....... pretty tough turning away 200 odd refugees hay .... arent we just really clever and strong .....

Well people of Australia going by the latest opinion polls Little Johnny will be reelected ........ i pray for my family if they ever require any social securities, hospitalisation or decent education .... oh well at least we wont have 200 refugees to worry about!

I get the feeling it has more to do with Kim Beazleys lack of ideas and policies than anything the Libs are doing. I can't really decide who I'm going to vote for, probably the Democrats. If I have to choose between seeing Howard, Beazley or Natasha for the next four years on tele, it's a very easy choice really.

Just another indication of what a ****e system of voting we have in Australia.

If less people did the donkey or informal votes, and those that voted actually cared about the situation of Australia, I'm sure those in the top job would be a lot different.

Bring back voluntary voting, compulsory vote ain't working.

I totally agree... Little Johnny is a moron of insurmountable proportions, with the majority of his ideas founded about two centuries ago. But politics is all about competition with the opposition... and Big Kym is giving NONE.

LOL....Good point Breidis, Natasha is easier on the eye....... the Labour Party will not release there policies until they have too, they learnt that from the last election, when Costello/Howard didnt release details of the tax package until the last minute meaning it couldnt be scrutinised to the fullest ..... they learnt from previous mistakes of announcing policies too early

My how times have changed. The Hawthorn Fans supporting the Labour Party and the Pies Fans aligned with the Liberals.;)

Hawthorns Heartland is around what was waverley park and Collingwood is becoming Yuppiefied.

But Blue collar is deeply conservative whereas labour has more progressives, who might be 'upwardly mobile" Hate that term, reminds me of thatcher.

Best quote ever was by Billy Connoly

"Politicians from all sides worship thatcher. They dream of stuffing up a country whereas she actually achieved it"

This will please a lot of people but I'm STILL having real trouble posting.

But I'll give this a try because it works sometimes.

Anyway - Bubba, you ask why people "warm" to John Howard. It's because he has proven himself both competent and smart in the last month - he has read the mood of the people.

Whether Kim Beazley is a nice bloke or not is irrelevant - it's not a "father of the year" contest.

But even that is also irrelevant because we don't have a Presidential voting system - ie. we vote for a party, not a Prime Minister.

I don't think Beazley would make a bad Prime Minister personally, but the rest of his party is devoid of talent - just like the NSW Liberal Party. The mere fact that Carmen Lawrence (a proven liar or incompetent, take your pick) and Cheryl Kernot are amongst their highest profile operators shows how hopeless they are. Only Crean and Beazley have any clue at all.

In contrast Vanstone, Costello, Abbott and the likes are proven performers in their portfolios (although they can dump Kemp - he is a fool).

You could equally ask: who could "warm" to Bob Carr in NSW? He's just as unappealing as Howard - but he is so clearly superior to his Liberal opponent Chikarovski, so that's why he has the NSW Premiership for as long as he wants it.

I really really want to believe you on that Bubba

...but unfortunately these 'shock jocks' are enormously influential.

Former Liberal Party President and ABC Board member Michael Kroger credits Alan Jones for almost single-hanedly winning the last election for Liberal.

The ALPs total inability to win crucial marginal seats in outer western Sydney and Central Coast cost it the election. The reasons for this have been the fact that Alan Jones, and his shamelessly antiLabor opinions dominated the airwaves during the election campaign.

Why do you think both Howard and Beazley fall over themselves to get on Talkback Radio every day ?

Why does Howard come out with policies that sound exactly like what you heard on Talkback the previous day ?

I don't want to believe it - but it really does seem that 'mainstream' opinion is exemplified by what you hear on Talkback every day.

cheers

The thing that bothers me about that is that they are supposed to be political parties, which means they are a group of people who have policies about "things".

Have a look at the Labour Party website and you will see that they have NO policies - just a bunch of media releases which seems to indicate that whatever Kim says on breakfast radio in the morning is the policy of the day. If you compare their site with that of the Democrats - there's no comparison. The Democrats have plenty of well-thought-out policies and explanations on how they intend to carry them out if they get elected. The problem with voting Democrats is that they will never hold power to actually do any of these things....

I haven't looked at the Libs site as I just assume that whatever policy they bring is going to cost me more money somehow....

Ahhh...Policies.

Didn't Ross Perot hit it on the head when he said 'I don't need policies - theres plenty of em already in washington. They just need someone to implement them. Pollies are doers not thinkers

The thing that really gets my back up is how they sell everything off and then pretend they have a budget surplus.
I'd have no debts either if I sold everything I owned.

They've sold off all of our infrastructure (which is what I thought was the responsibility of a government to maintain...) Qantas, CBA, Telstra etc. ...and now Sydney airport. What's next? Hopefully Parliament House!!

None of our major roads in Sydney are goverment roads anymore. And all are heavily tolled, and will be forever as these private companies have to make a profit.

We have to fully pay for health and education.

What exactly do we pay taxes for? What do we get for our money?

Well, congratulations John Howard... getting yourself back in by shunting 400 helpless people running from an oppressive fanatically religious regime off to a tiny island which our country stripped bare of resources long ago. A true champion of conservative politics you are.

And shame on the Australian public for falling for it. Welcome to Redneck Wonderland.

Before you vote that muppet back in, remember the three letter that had him on the political ropes before some refugees boat sprung a leak in the Indian Ocean:
G.S.T.

You remember that thing that was "dead and buried" before Lil Johnnie got into power because the people didn't want it. That thing that Howard used to oust John Hewson from the Liberal leadership because it was a flawed policy.. oh deary me what short memories we all have.

Um, it was a LABOUR goverment that sold the Commonwealth Bank. Telstra - Only 50% was sold and I've been told from a former employee of Telstra, and my Business Management teacher at school...that Telstra up until recently was a bungling beauracy. An example of the 'typical' Goverment department/business that sits on its arse and does nothing.
