Do you think we are in better shape (on and off the field) this year compared with last?

I think it's fair to say we are financially more secure, what with the sponsorship deals and all that biz, but dunno about the players. Something just doesn't feel right, somethings missing. I can't quite put my finger on it though. Could be the little injuries we have (Ooze, vardy, molan), or the 3 injured defenders... or it could be the hole left by woey. Probably a combination of all three.

Your thoughts people?

(sorry for the negative post so close to the first game).

Yeah i kinda fell the same... I think it could be our backline. We cant rely on Bizzell playing on big forwards all the time. But hopefully something will go right.

Well, look... it's hard to say with us to be honest. Each time we have a good year and show the football world what we can do, we fall well short and go no where near anybodies expectations. So, I guess I'm prepared for anything.

I am feeling good about this year though. I'm not getting carried away as I have in previous seasons as I know what we are capable of, but I do believe that off the field we are more stable than we have ever been since the end of 1996, and that can only be good for the club. We have a good, solid list that has the ability to blood youngsters while still having plenty of experience in there as well.

We will get a taste of what is to come Friday night I think. You can't judge alot, but you can judge where some players are at. I just hope they are at a good spot footy wise!

Weird feelings this year!

I tend to agree that I feel strange about the fact that Woey's not there and I just feel so different this year than in the past.

It does not seem to be the same club anymore to me.

Maybe its early or something...but something is definately different about this year.

The only thing I've found different about it so far is that, as a club, we are much more stable. I won't miss Woewodin or Powell in Fri night.

It is different this season, no doubt. I get the feeling that our list is continuing to mature without getting old (strange I know). We're relying on kids down back but then we did that last year too & they're all a year further along in their development. Like most other teams were probably only 1 or 2 key injuries away from being wooden spoon material but only Port & Brisbane seem immune to that!

I'm more optimistic than I was this time last year, the kids really showed some grit last season. I see no reason to be pessimistic.

The loss of Powell & Woewodin is balanced up by the arrival of Heffernan & the re-emergence of Gus. A few of the kids will kick on & a bit of good fortune should see us up with Brisbane & Port.

well regardless of any of that - i was VERY happy with how friday nights game went! so i must say, now, compared to how i felt after last yrs loss against st.kilda in the first match - im VERY happy and have a more possetive feeling toward how the season may go... im very, very much looking forward to the home and away season now (more than i had been...) and im all pumped for next weeks match against the roos!!

I believe the 22 is as good as if not better than last year, and that our depth has risen dramatically with a full list, and rookies that appear capable of games this year. Add to this new sponsors and a better pre-season cup performance, and I'd say we are in a much better position this year.
