Surprised at his treatment of Beckham. Yes he is a pretentious bitch but he was always the model professional. Poor form to slag off one of his former prodigy's relationship with his wife. Let's not forget that United went into decline for a couple of years after Becks left. If anything I was expecting that ole' whiskey nose would have regretted selling Becks.

He had 3 excellent seasons at Real and this concurred with the same period that you lot won nothing (03/04, 04/05 and 05/06). Then again if you didn't sell him you may never have got Ronaldo. The only thing for sure is selling him set the team back for a couple of seasons.
They sold him and got Ronaldo, which proved to be definitely the right move

Should have heard him after the 1-4 loss vs us. Apparently they played us off the park. FA should have breath tested him after some of those press conferences.

From what I read he was having a crack at Beckham's thirst for fame and his move to the MLS more than anything. I think he didn't like the change in Beckham as he got older.
For those getting all worked up, I think that's the point of his book.

What is particularly strange about the irreconcilability of what he said then and now is that Gerrard enhanced his reputation AFTER Ferguson made his original comments extolling Gerrard's virtues - his inspirational 2004/2005 season in which he led us to Champions League glory against all odds, his clutch goals in the 2006 FA Cup Final, his 2008/2009 season, etc.
It seems inconceivable that Ferguson could have had a less favourable of impression of Gerrard in say 2009 than he did at the time of making those original comments in 2004!

That for me is baffling. Fergie talks about how he doesn't rate Gerrard as a top player yet considered signing him??? Why consider that about a player you don't rate?
