Fevola for Bradshaw & Rischitelli?

It is interesting because some supporters of both clubs are against the trade. Brions supporters are against it because they see it as giving up two honest players for a douchebag.

Carlton supporters are against it because they see it as giving up a match winner for two reasonable players, one who is nearly finished and the other who is a reasonable player that doesn't win games.

I don't want Fev traded, but if the club are determined to trade him, they are going to have to take what they can get. Two players who are playing regular senior football is better than no players and Fev's contract simply being terminated.

I'm surprised it's the best we can do.

I think us Carlton fans have to forget getting what Fev is "worth" in return - we are motivated sellers. WE want to sell. It's not a matter of other clubs coming up with a king's ransom. We're in a spot we don't want to be if we DON'T trade him, so our bargaining position is very weak.

However, Bradshaw's age and health are a pretty big concern. He's a wonderful player, and it's really good to get a like-for-like player with Fev leaving. Our forward line still needs work, but I think Waite or Kreuzer or whoever should be able to co-exist in Carlton's forward line with Bradshaw as well IF NOT BETTER than with Fev. But can Bradshaw play 22 per year? For 1 year? 2 years? I hope his body is going OK, and he's keen to play. Certainly have no problems with him in the Navy Blue.

Rischitelli is a tough one to work out. He's not elite and not going to be - but he probably adds more snarl to our midfield. He and McLean are strong inside guys, things we certainly missed last year. Concern may be adding both of them slows us down somewhat. Hmmnnn. I think he's in our best 22 for the foreseeable future, but he's no superstar.

So, it's probably what we should have expected from the get-go. A deal that leaves us all feeling like we got ripped off. Because Carlton wants to trade Fev - this is not Brisbane "buying" him.

Looking to 2010, some of Carlton's hardness and accountability issues in the midfield may have been addressed - we should certainly do better in the clearances. Our forward line will obviously be weaker, but our success still hinges on the same things:

1. Finding a half-forward line
2. Continued development of youngsters
3. More defensive pressure in the midfield.

It's probably the only deal we could muster given the club had obviously decided he must go. With no real interest from other clubs, Carlton had to bend a little.

Disappointing to say the least but I will suck it up given I'm not one of Fev's greatest fans. The guy is a great player but a cancer on the culture of the club.

Just shows the club's hands were tied a little on trade options. It also seems when Roos says not interested, it means he really isn't interested.

Options don't fit me. No - the deal sucks for us but yes - I am fully aware we have few options. Fev has to go regardless so anything is better than nothing as long as he doesn't go to our long standing enemies.

This way we get a one year forward replacement who won't be thrown around and time to build our structure again. Would probably rather McDonald than Rischitelli and that is an option but oh well, we have some depth there at the very least. Maybe some incremental improvement through our midfield.

From my point of view, I like the Lions when they are not playing us, so this hurts a little less than some other options.

We will scream when we play the Lions however, and we will scream if the person who caused this wins a flag before we do.

I feel let down by Fev to be honest. I know he is a fan favourite and an approachable guy and know he didn't mean for this to happen, but it did, and in the end he comes out of it with his pay packet intact, playing for another finals side, while we as a club who love their heroes, now have an asterisk beside one of them, who rightly or wrongly will not retire as one of us, will not be our greatest ever goalkicker, has broken hearts all over the country, and set us back in our premiership aims.

The club didn't do this. The club had to make a stand at some point. Yes they made the decision but there really weren't a lot of choices.

Perhaps they could have held out for a bit more but the perceived worth of Bradshaw to the Lions is much higher than his realistic worth to us and because he isn't an idiot, people consider it a like for like trade which it clearly is not.

Hoping Bradshaw remains injury free and we have multiple forward targets to take the load off.

From what I can gather Rischitelli is the type of guy most coaches would like to have in the team. Whilst well short of elite I don't think he has many chinks in the armour either.

The key for me is with the addition of a couple of clearance players we improve in two key areas. We free Judd to be a more damaging player, and more importantly we can now hold our own when Judd is off the field. Sitting and watching games this year you could feel the momentum shift in games whenever Judd went off...can't underline enough how important I think this is.

look im starting to realise that the blues were dead serious about moving fev on but..........for a player that’s got just about nothing more to give and a player that will difinitely play with the bullants some time during the year – this has to be one big joke!!!

It was a hard decision to make but...in the end I too wanted to see the back of fev - would rather Gibbs stay another 12 years than fev stay another 3! But I really thought we'd get a top 10 pick some how in the hope of securing our next key forward!

Bradshaw will still only be 31 at the end of next season. He's averaged nearly 60 goals a season over his last 4 seasons and thats playing second fiddle to Brown. Take the deal and watch Fev destroy Brown with a big knee a la Setanta cos he doesnt like sharing the forward 50....

Im generally pretty optimistic, but with Fev, and on this years form I think we would have been in the second line of betting for the 2010 flag. Certainly behind Geelong and Saints, but near enough to on par with Collingwood, Bulldogs and maybe Adelaide.

We've addressed a big deficiency in adding some genuine inside talent with big bodies. We still have a big target for the next two years, we have Warnock and Waite to look forward to, and further improvement in the kids. I think we will need to target a KPF rather than develop one in Bradshaw's time, but that's what we do well.

I think we'll take the field in 2010 in better shape...well maybe in round four, but you know what I mean.

... still, it's easy to see all this in hindsight. Hall was gone to Dogs pretty early in on the piece so would have been hard for Carlton to forecast the Jolly trade and get the Swans to hold off on trading Hall.

Do you think that any of those hypothetical trades were real? Do you think we have bargaining power here? If the Lions and Collingwood are the only clubs interested and both are not going to offer anything near Fev's value, do you think we should risk scaring away this deal? What happens to Fev at 2pm tomorrow if he is still with us? What happens to the club for that matter?

It will be a monumental stuff up to keep a player that can't play for us. Much worse than taking a crappy deal to send him far away from us.

We cannot say what alternative deal we could have done as we have no say in the deal.

Effectively we accepted an equivalent of a 2nd & 3rd pick for Fevola.

I'd rather pick 10 and Rischitelli. I'd rather pick 10 and Henderson. I'd rather pick 10 and any emerging prospect that's capable of playing 100 games rather than a washed up Bradshaw.

With Bradshaw we're desperately trying to plug a hole that he simply won't fill. So why bother? Take the short term hit (because we will anyway) and do what we have to to be where we want in two-three years time.

And that's quite apart from what we could get elsewhere.

The club wanted him gone and this deal is better than any other that I have heard. If you are not happy with it, what other deal was better? Remember keeping Fev is not an option at all so if you can come up with a better deal I'd be very interested to see it.

No poll option fitted my thoughts, but Best we could do is most appropriate. I don't think a late first rounder by itself would help us at all in the short-term either. We definitely needed a forward (or two) in any trade.

Don't agree. I think Bradshaw will be a much better replacement for Fevola. Plays in a similar style, and put simply kicks more goals.

I'd also take 120+ games from Rischitelli over a gamble at 14. There's been some reasonable players taken at 14 in Birchall and Grimes, but names like James Sellar, Fergus Watts and Daniel Bell don't excite is much. In a weakened draft I think you would take the safe option.

Yeah the answer is don't trade him, suck it up and give him six weeks off, and an absolute ban of alcohol and all media. simple as that, tell the players to suck it up, any rift between players is the stop(if they exist and get back to training and train hard, forget about the last four weeks and get on with business, we don't have another full forward and i don't want geriactric bradshaw. Tell fev to shut his mouth and play football.

Okay, but you do realise that Sydney have not expressed interest in Fevola at all don't you?

I have doubts that Hall > Bradshaw. He is 2 years older and more prone to frustration. Bradshaw might have had more injury concerns but if his hammies hold up, he could play for a lot longer than Hall and is more versatile.

Then we have the situation where Collingwood were not going to give up 14 while Fev was still on the market. They were stalling on the deal to see if they could nab him with that pick and a fringe player.

Then we have to recognise that we have a gaping hole at full forward and Pick 14 is more of a speculator in this draft than other drafts.

Then we have to recognise that if he went to Collingwood, we would be paying more of Fev's salary than we will be at Brisbane.

Seems the options were Collingwood for #14 and maybe Dawes, Brisbane for the current deal or stay with us and really watch the shit hit the fan.

That all seems pretty simple doesn't it. If you had gun players not wanting to play with Fev, being told to forget about what Fev did to them and 'suck it up', you won't have any problem with losing one or more of those players over the next year or two as they now have zero respect for the club or how the club looks after them?

Zero team unity tears you apart more than losing a gun player. All you need is the other gun players to play like they are not happy being where they are and the whole team falls apart.

I would rather those trades too AD. Were they on offer? If they weren't, do we refuse what was on offer? Are we in a position to make a stand and risk keeping Fev and destabilising the team?

This is an absolute disgrace. A hobbling 31 year old forward with 2 good years left at best and a depth player. That bs ODN we would of got a better deal than that, it seems Swany bends over and takes it just as easy as you do.
