Have struggled a little to do a phantom this year as it does get
very speculative fairly early in the draft. I have tried to factor
in the trade period and needs, but it is quite difficult. This draft
is as good as i can remember in the KPD area so i have tried to
bleed them in even though some teams do not have a dire
need for them. I have done no bidding just to keep it simple
to follow for myself mainly. Anyhow may as well start hope you
enjoy the read.

Pick 1- Brisbane: Luke Davies-Uniacke 187 cm 85 kg
When in doubt go for the private school kid or the hyphanated
surname, or both.

Nicholas Shipley at 11? This is a typical 'I've got no clue but want people to think I do" phantom draft
Get excited mate he is actually from Western Sydney and as i said
would be a good PR story for your club. Shipley, Richards and
L.Fogarty would be good haul no matter what number appears
next to their names.

I know he's a good player but having him at Pick 11 means either a) Someone bids on him in the top 10 or b) we pick him outright at 11 which they are both extremely unlikely scenarios

When you have P.Naish to Richmond at #17 without a bid , That indicates to me its a lazy mock draft and any mock worth reading need some work put into it and this would be the easiest thing to do . Shipley pick #11 - WOW
As i said in the intro, i am not into the bidding system at all so you
are right it is the easy way out and a bit lazy. I think it is fair to
say Naish in particular sits 17 to 25 in any case and Richmond
would be praying for an early bid as their depth in that area is
very healthy as it is.

Why would rfc be praying for an early bid?

I agree that Shipley at 11 is a massive stretch especially without a bid and no way richmond waste a pick on naish if there has not been a bid...neither of those will happen, however i can tell you Shipley has claimed an invite to the draft indicating that there could be a bid inside top 15/20 for him. The fact is that both have been invited and they only recieve one if the chance of going high-ish is there or at least going top 20.

Unlikely i found him hard to place
Naughton has generally been mentioned as a first-rounder, top 10 even.

Kelly i really want to stay in WA
with twin boys coming.
Why do you care if he stays in WA?

That's got nothing to do with whether WC would take him with their second pick.

Yes you did but without where you think a bid will come in it actually effects every other selection and scews it so much that with 3-4 academy/father son
Possibilities its just pointless.

E.G A bid comes in for Naish at #25 but prior to that bid Richmond may take Oscar Allen with #17 which means the team takes another player so on and so on.
Without including the bids you may as well only just do your ranking and not do a Phantom as its pointless.

With no dis respect the phantom is absolutely pointless as its not really your opinion on whats going to happen but just listing names as it comes.

Anyway - No offence just an opinion

Because three kids is a hand full for anyone especially under two and
having support and family at hand makes the footy easier. I really
rate him as a player and hope he goes to West Coast at either of
the picks in the twenties.

Higgins, Kelly Starcevich. All look pretty good for the Eagles (I don't know if Starcevich will last to pick 37 however). The others i'm a bit less enthusiastic about, but at least you have the Eagles going for a midfielder first up.

Not happy with pick 19????
Having got Lachie Weller, Harrison Wigg and to a lesser extent
Aaron Young in the trade period Zac Bailey is a bit similar so i
understand you not being happy. You did pick up Will Brodie,
Brad Scheer last year who were more inside orientated. Who
would you have liked ?

You did trade Brendon Ah Chee from Port who is 188 cm 88 kg
so i thought giving you Houlahan to replace Le Cras and Hill
made sense and Naughton has great traits even if his disposal
is a little basic at times, so was Rance initially.

Wow be happy with this, Naughton a massive steal. Swap kelly for Fogarty or Bailey.

No offence taken and i agree with your point, last year i did a
phantom and i included some bids as they were important in
the overall flow of the draft especially with the volume of
academy players held by GWS, you had to make them choose.
I will use the example of the BigFooty phantom as it is fairly
recent, the Geelong guy bid on Naish at 22 then when he was
matched he bid on Ballenden which was also matched. I would
argue that the Brisbane guy should have valued Ballenden a
little higher having delisted Close, Freeman, Hammelmann and
traded Schache. In the end Brisbane had four picks inside
pick 50: Uniacke, Naughton, O'Brien and Ballenden, in my
draft Brisbane had five picks inside pick 50 because i valued
Ballenden higher: Uniacke, Murphy, Ballenden, Moore and
Paton.

On Naish i would agree Richmond would love Oscar Allen or
Jarrod Brander at pick 17, but in my draft they were off the
board so i gave you Naish, Hayes and Balta, Hayes is a
good fit as you have Toby Nankervis, Shaun Gale-Hampson
and Ivan Soldo. If you don't take Hayes god knows where
he could end up. Anyway i was happy to bid last year as
it was a big deal this year if teams give their prospects
the right pick value i see no reason to bid i hope that
explains it better than i did in the op.
