Buckley gets booed over here too. The main trouble is that he's seen as being arrogant, when he's probably just very self confident (fine line between the two). Compare his persona with, say, Andy McLeod's....Andy's won two Norm Smith medals, but is self-efacing and modest.

This is the story of the summer this year.
Several Ex collingwood players have commented at their new clubs "Everyone gets on with each other so well here"

He's got to be on of the best Kicks, with oval or round ball, though

Nathan "FIGJAM" Buckley is the reason, Collingwood are at the bottom.

Well Him, Anthony Rocca, the other 30+ players on their list, the board (especially McGuire), the members and the supporters.

A Hopeless Club
A Worthless Player

Hang on, hang on....does Buckley do anything on the field (in regards to leading his players) that is a whole lot different to the way that Carey leads his team? I've seen Carey give a bagging to teammates when he feels it's warranted. David King has been known to do the same thing, and how often to we see Mick dish out the odd glare to teammates?

What makes it hard for Buckley is while Carey has senior players like Archer, McKernan, Martyn, Stevens, etc. who can guide the youngsters through the tirades PLUS the fact that Pagan is handy with getting into the heads of the young players, Buckley doesn't have the same sort of support at his club. Tony Shaw was reputed to have a closed door policy to the younger players while Collingwood lost a generation of experienced players through bad player management (the one example is Jason McCartney who is regarded as a team leader at Arden Street).

What you're forgetting is that Buckley was only acting in how he felt was in the best interests of the club. What went wrong was that there was no-one to pull him aside to tell him that maybe he should take a different approach. That is more a fault of the club than of Buckley himself. If he didn't have a go at his players on the field, wouldn't we be now having a go at him for being too quiet and not acting like a leader?

Cheers

(now washing his mouth out for sticking up for Collingwood.....God I feel dirty now)

Shinners,

So you should! (Wash your mouth out with soap) To even try and compare Buckley to Carey - either as a player or captain - shame on you.

Yes, Kingy did lose his cool with a couple of players on the odd occasion this season, but maybe he had other things on his mind. On the other hand Carey occasionaly waves his arms about and it makes me laugh.

scarpetta: putrid call...how often do we play up there so who gives a shit, you cop heaps everytime you play in Melbourne so it doesn't matter!

DEVO: that is also a putrid call 'A worthless player' you fu@ken moron...as if you wouldn't love him to be playing for your club... Althought you could expect that kind of shit from someone who lives in Canberra, tell me have you ever even been to the footy?? Or do you follow a club???

Michele: I know how stupid comparing Bucks to Carey, Bucks doesn't go aroung grabbing chicks **** does he??

And Sandie don't go saying that I am a typical Collingwood supporter always have to resort to namecalling and shit because these fools deserve what I said about them...making putrid calls like that!!

You can call scarpetta's call as putrid as you like PieGirl but its true.

I meann - you must acknowledge Buckley's 1994 decision was, at best, extremely poor judgment and, at worst, downright stupid.

The fact remains that Buckley left Brisbane and turned down North Melbourne becuase he wanted to 'play finals football'

What a chump.

DEVO

How about getting a real job and stop scumming on the taxpayer.

You probably work flexitime as well and get RDOs for reading the newspaper during work hours.

The value of your comment equates to the output of work from public servants - NIL

Figjam, great player in a shit side, you know losing is not what it is all cracked up to be, so it is understood that he is frustrated, footballers only really have 10 years to achieve everything they want to in footy, one more poor year for collingwood and mr buckley might just jump ship.

BSA-I said that Scarpettas call was putrid becasue who cares if he gets bagged when we play up there, how often do we play there????
Not very often!!
So go and read my post again!!! I didn't say anything about his decision to leave Brisbane and play for Collingwood!!!

You are not a very bright person!!!

now now PieGirl don't get abusive

I looked back at scarpettas original post - and your reply to it.

You chose to ignore his main point about Buckley leaving Brisbane, whilst picking him up on his secondary comment about the barracking Bucks get at the Gabba.

You didn't say anything about Buckley leaving Brisbane because you conveniently chose to ignore that part of scarpettas post. I know YOU didn't say anything but scarpetta did and I think I am entitled to comment on that.

Make sure you cover all your bases next time OK ?

Buckley is a great player but he showed extremely poor judgment in leaving Brisbane and saying no to North because he thought Collingwood were a better finals proposition than the other two.

I know he is your champ, I like him alot too in fact I have stuck up for him on this forum a few times. BUT anyone can see he made the wrong decision in 1994.

Only in-denial Collingwood people would disagree with that

cheers

well maybe he didnt have his crystal ball with him! heck! no one can say 'oh i know perfectly well whats gonna happen in the next 6-7 years' and whos gonna be where on the ladder. he didnt know tony shaw was gonna coach!
anyway didnt brisbane also get the spoon a few years ago? yeah they might have made the finals etc but, if theres no flag to show, whos gonna remember?
anyway everyone should just get over the buckley thing. it he is so 'worthless' as someone said then why bother to contribute to this topic??

Piegirl,

Debate the argument - don't hurl abuse or trite one-liners.

Why is Buckley (widely) called FIGJAM? What do the initials mean?

Other posts refer to Buckley's decision in leaving the Bears to go to Collingwood (and for money) to play in finals. He chose not to go to North, missed out BIG TIME. Bad choice - 1994,1995,1996 GRAND FINAL-PREMIERS,1997,1998,1999 GRAND FINAL-PREMIERS.

Now if he had chosen North, not only would he have played in a lot finals, he would also have had the privilege of playing alongside and under the best player ever and also a brilliant captain - something Buckley can never be.

At 28, and two years as captain, Collingwood have sent Buckley on a leadership course - a case of closing the gate after the horse has bolted.

Carey was made captain at 21 and has ALWAYS been highly regarded as a great captain. Allies - Carey #1 choice as captain, All-Australian - Carey #1 choice as captain AHEAD of Buckley.

Now go ahead with a vitriolic reply about Carey, but check the spelling. Are Eddie/Mick correct about the Grade 3 readers?

heck i'm good just ask me.
Figjam we all know it, but i have the guts to write its full meaning.
Hey if i was as good as buckley i would be known as figjam as well. I think buckley has to have that attitude when he has been surrounded by a substandard team, the only other attitude he could have is a losing one. I think buckley in a good side would be sensational
