F***ing finished.

As someone who never played the original I have no idea as to what's outraged those who have regarding the ending?
I haven’t played the original either. It’s just unsatisfying what consequences does changing fate actually have? You don’t know because the game abruptly ends. What do the heroes actually achieve in their fight against Shinra? All they did was blow up a couple of reactors and Shinra let them do that. Who the **** is Sephiroph? Who tf is Zack?

I guess those bits are at least loyal to the original. In the original you don’t actually find out who Sephiroth is until the first town right after Midgar, they probably should have done a bit more to explain him during this game, but that would have pissed people off as well, they really are in a no win situation with Sephiroth.

As for Zack. The fact that he’s even mentioned in this game is weird. You don’t actually find out who Zack is in the original game until Disk 2 and after Cloud hits rock bottom.

I know who Zack is because I loosely know the plot but it's the first part of the game, it doesn't need a proper ending because the story isn't over.

It’s a full price game that goes for 30 hours, it needs a proper end.

You can’t have your cake and eat it as well. You can’t worry about pissing people off in some cases then completely ignore it in others. It’s not a good justification to a poorly written plot.

Yeah the writing's trash

Persona 5 has more good writing in 10 hours than this game had in 40

Given that it's known beforehand that it isn't the whole story it doesn't.
Whether or not it’s known before hand it doesn’t matter. The narrative should still stand up on its own.

Yep I’m really enjoying Persona 5’s writing atm.

Anyone who bought this game expecting a 'complete' story must have been hiding under a rock for the past 3 years.

They've stated for ages now it's going to be broken up, whinging about not getting the full story is your fault for not doing 2min worth of research on the game before purchasing it.

I’m not whinging about the story not being complete, I whinging about the story not standing on its own. A new hope isn’t the complete story yet it stands on its own.

Actually the original Star Wars was written in a way that if it was a flop, it could end and be a standalone story.

A better example would be Empire Strikes Back or Avengers Infinity War, they clearly end with the idea that there is more to tell.

Yeah so love this game heaps, but fu** trying to beat the house on hard mode during chapter 9.

tonberrys seriously....

You actually need to beat it twice if you want all the manuscripts from that chapter...

Once you get the knack of it you can manage. Triple Slash the Tonberries when they come out and you can get rid of them immediately. Hold your ATB until you have an opening to cast magic or pound him when he’s pressured. Cast Poison on him and save your summon and limit breaks until the final stage.

That just backs up my point. It was written so it could be a standalone film but still left enough open for direct sequels.

Empire pushes the pushes that a little further and leaves a few more cliff hangers but still overall makes the story end on a satisfying note. Probably because it actually reveals the information it teases instead of just spouting nonsense.

Narratively speaking Remake wraps up some of its plot points and I think it could satisfactorily conclude if the game didn’t continue.

They successfully rescue Aerith, defeat the demons that have been dogging them all game and are leaving Midgar. Now we all know what happens next because we’ve played the original but I could accept that as a finite ending.

In the same way that Empire ends and has an obvious continuation but narratively works. I think Remake is the same.

FF7 remake is one third of an entire game. It's the first third of a complete narrative.

It makes sense that it doesn't give you everything...because most of the exposition from the original comes in the second third of the game.

It's been made for fans of the original, who know the story and are keen to see a new take on a classic.

How the **** did you guys last until the end or even remotely enjoy this game?

The thing about the original that eeeeeevereybody loves is the story. So the remake ending, hinting that some things may change, will definitely upset some people.

Those weird flash forwards were mostly tiny snippets of iconic moments of the game's story. If you have played the original they are burned into your memory.

But I dunno, I don't think they will change that much. I think it was meant as a teaser to the rest of the game because, yes, we are essentially playing an unfinished game. For instance (you may know this already) but Jesse/James/Biggs all die pretty unceremoniously in the original. The plate falls and they go splat. And you don't see it or anything. YOu just can't get back in to sector 7. So they have tweaked the story here to get a little more out of the characters but it's not having an effect on the main story.

Zack, as joelsyt said, isn't a major character but is actually pretty promising in terms of expanding on his part - I can see why they are going there. It has to do with Cloud's identity and was very interesting during the original. But it was all contained in a 20 minute story part in the original.

But **** me, if you don't know beforehand, I don't see how this gets you excited for the next.

I enjoyed the story and game, the only issue I had was that I got to a point where it felt like you're at the final battle but then you go through another 10 fights.

My point regarding not knowing what outraged people is that I simply didn't know what they had changed that upset people.

My knowledge of the story is built around TeamFourStar's Final Fantasy Machinabridged series which is f***ing hilarious but obviously a parody that you kinda get ideas about the story.

I like Cloud from kingdom hearts and super smash brothers so playing as him in his own game appealed to me. I like the combat and the character designs and the overall aesthetic. The story started out promising.

A new Hope was written as a trilogy in mind, FF7 wasn't would be one reason ......
A new hope was written to the only film as everyone thought it would flop.

Persona 5 isn't a game I'd hold up as an example of good story telling.

Still much much better than this one

They promised they'd expand the world of Midgar, they actually didn't. 95% of the areas are the same as before, and instead of writing interesting dialogue to fill in the hours, it was just lazy rehashed side quests and long linear dungeons.

Typical Square Enix though, they can't write and always half ass their games, but people still buy them so I guess they are the winners
