Just to show how out of touch the AFL and cronies are with the general public comes news today that Tipstar has lost $4 million.
Trumpeted by Eddie and Wayne as the greatest thing since sliced bread expected to provide $3 million a year to the Vic government.
Surprise, surprise the payout was something like 60% and the average punter didn't get on board. I remember a debate, Eddie ringing Dr Turf on the radio after the Doc gave it a fearful bagging. Where are you now Ed?

The other one that stands out were the financial predictions for clubs moving to Colonial, virtually based on 75% of members upgrading to a reserved seat. People will not pay $30+ week in week out when they can pay $15 and still get a decent view.

About time the AFL introduced themselves to the public.

Surely the AFL should follow the SANFL example and only have reserve seating available at Colonial.

I understood that's how they started, but the little critters we know as Victorians didn't adapt to this phenomenon by doing things like pre-buying tickets and getting a reserve seat with their membership, so as a result, you had 20,000 people on match day lining up to buy a ticket and working out where they want to sit.

Hence the big queues. Its not that bad when there's just general admission, it's just '1 adult please', 'There you go', but when you say '1 adult please', it's then followed by 'Premium, standard or budget seat', 'Level 1, 2 or 3', and Which block would you like to sit, here's a map', etc...

Out of all the successes Eddie has Falchoon, you have to pick one poor performer and jump on here like a 4 year old boy and go:

"SUUUUUUUUFFFFFFFFEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!!".

You have tall poppy syndrome that could supply Bourke Street with Herion for a year!!

It was a little more complicated than that. Yuo had to line up to buy a ticket at too few windows and the lines became huge. Then you had to line up at teh turnstyles to get in. What you say is true but add to the equation the double lineup with inadequate entrences and entry technology (since pretty much fixed). The consider that 20,000 people should be able to walk into a 40,000 seat stadium and find seat prettyy easily but when they try they find they cant. No wonder people were jacked from day 1.

When you have half the capacity at a game and all get the crap seats because footy has always been a casual cheap day out and premium seat prices are balked at, you get an unpopular ground. Corwds were down and revenue per attendee was down. Then costs were increased because the entrance system couldn't be automated. As with all "initiatives" of the AFL they just believed what the salesman said and did not do adequate market research of their own. Unfortunately they passed their con onto the clubs.

Thats because Victorians were conditioned with walk up stadiums like the MCG 100,000 capacity, Waverley 77,000 Capacity and all the subruban grounds of 25-30,000 capacity with heaps of standing room.

Plus the whole arrangement at Colonial wasnt communicated properly to the public, so it was hard for them to know how it worked.

The worm has turned though and most understand now and I havent seen a queue beyond normal expectations for a long time at the "phone box".

Tipstar was always going to be a dud. It's predecessors were also duds. Betting on two horse races with big commissions and pooled payouts doesn't add up. It never has and never will.

Anyone silly enough to throw maoney at it gets what they deserve.

Hardly, found it tucked away in the paper and thought it was worth mentioning in the Eddie PM thread. Twigged that it's not the first time we have tried to have the wool put over us by the powerbrokers that be.

I suppose it had to be either jealousy or tall poppy syndrome, most criticisms of the critics by the uneducated usually use one or the other.

If you feel it's not a talking point, well.........

We uneducated folk also use the "critics are too gutless to go out and do things for themselves" line. But I don't know you, so sadly, I couldn't use that one! ;)

My company newsletter never gets highlights all of the missed opportunites/cash flow problems/losses we had last month. Why do you expect Eddie to be different?? If a loss is made, it is reported accordingly and discussed with the shareholders.

But it's diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, huh Falc!?!

As seen by response thus far, it's not much of a talking point, so if you'll excuse me, I have to go and wipe my brow with my University degree! :p ;)

The uneducated bit was a tad rough, though not meant to be personal, but I absolutely hate the Tall Poppy/ Jealousy argument constantly trotted out against anyone daring to criticise a "high flyer"

I'm not a big fan of my next door neighbour either, but it's not much of a discussion point and isn't relevant to to many people, and he certainly doesn't reach a corner of page 15 ;) in the days newspaper.

and I am on record as saying I like Eddie the presenter, and I believe Ed does great things for the CFC.

Degrees are overrated anyway, I've got one ;)
