Finding a gem at Pick 30

^ I'd say that would be for the VFL team if anything, mind you I've been wrong on that front before with L Brown.

I would think so but you never know with Hine in charge

Sounds like the Pies are looking at Chris Irving:

word has got out, the pies have told him they'll rookie him, possibly draft if available. Will be on an afl list somewhere IMO.
Very impressive on baller from the peninsula, have played against him in years past. didn't rate him that highly then but he's a definite gun now and all at seaford rate him enormously.
6 footer, ball winner, good speed, powerful, about 22 i think, maybe a tagging role at afl level. hard to judge local league to afl potential.
justin sweeney was a talented kid drafted straight from tyabb, irving not as athletically gifted but alot more runs on the board, won the last 2 leasgue best and fairests.

I've seen Chris Irving play before. I can't really remember much about him except he has these crazy dreads.

Ah, I found some pictures of him:

Nice specky.:thumbsu:

It would be awesome if we had another Peninsula boy on our list.:thumbsu:

That shows me we do have an Interest with Fitzpartick

I would be Happy to get him at Pick 30:thumbsu:

Just what we need. Another weak skinny KPP that will take 5 years to develop the body to compete at AFL level if he ever develops enough physically at all which is a question mark looking at those pictures and footage.

As for Troy Taylor, I'm sorry when were we ever in need of a third tall forward? We have more third tall forwards than we know what to do with.

I hope we don't waste the few draft picks we have by picking players in positions we just don't need. Unless a bloke drops that is going to be an absolute gun, then we should be looking at positions of need.

The players we will be looking at with pick 30 include:

Luke Ball (Future unknown)

Troy Taylor (Most likely to go early 2nd round)

Josh Thomas (Most likely pick at 30 considering Taylor will most likely be gone by this point)

Jack Fitzpatrick (Tall, skinny ruckman with potential who could go 1st or 2nd round, but if slips worth taking a good look at. Won the repeat sprint test at draft camp.)

James Craig (All Australian U18 ruckman, only 195cm but makes up for his lack of height with his draft camp winning vertical jump)

Jesse Critchon (Most likely going in the mid 20s, but if slips could be a nice fit, has great work rate and tackling pressure, downside is his lack of size)

Ryan Harwood (Considered to have incredible potential, most likely to go after our pick)

Like the Sound of Though Players.

Reckon we could get James Craig Later in the Draft

I see Craig being gone by around pick 40. If he slips to pick 62 then ofcourse we would be all over him! Just can't see that happening.

He is top 30 quality, just we don't have a need for him at pick 30.

Also another I didn't mention before was Matthew Panos who is possible at pick 30. Some think he could become a rookie listing, if the U18 All Australian Full Forward is available at 62 then likewise with Craig we would be all over him!

Panos is a nice prospect in that he is a full forward who can kick straight at goal

;):p:D

Don't think we'd go for Jesse Critchon when we've got Blair.

Blair is more of an inside Shane O'Bree type. Jesse Critchon is more an outside player more compairable to a defencive minded Dale Thomas with pretty much the same attributes minus a little athleticism. Critchon is probably a mid 20s pick anyway so unlikely he will drop to us, but if available his defencive tackling pressure would be a nice fit for us.

Totally agree - Chrichton is massively underated by most and would be a steal at #30 if still available.

Well if we are thinking of making him a CHB or FB then Maybe because he is to Short as a Ruckman at 195cm

Jesse Crichton (Tasmania) – Draft Profile

NuQtF8YFD2Eny-kRZMw&sig2=hZxLvs_VLCQxpZ4tBBCy8g"]Video Footage[/URL]

Strengths

> Very clean hands below the knees
> Very good ball user by hand – sharp reflexes, neat, appropriate power and good hurt factor
> Good vision and poise in traffic – good extractor in traffic and has the ability to create time with his evasive skills with creative handballing ability to regularly release players into space
> Excellent evasive ability/balance and very good leap
> Good all-round ballwinning ability both in close and in space
> Very good defensive work-ethic – chases, tackles, pressures and does the 1%ers with good impact - run down tackles are a speciality
> Plenty of tenacity and courage - sticks his head over the footy consistently - surprisingly effective and prolific tackler
> Good pace off the mark (seemed to have more zip last year, but still better than DC results for 20m) and good top speed/ability to cover ground (and very good closing speed), impressive leap and exceptional evasiveness (and defensive agility) – capable of being a creative and dynamic playmaker that can use his athleticism effectively both in congestion and space (saw much more of it last year)

Weaknesses

> Lack of physical strength and very skinny build – easily pushed off the ball by bigger opponents in contests – would be concerns about how well he’ll bulk up
> Below average kicking reliability and one-sidedness
> Average running capacity, but given his lack of strength and size he needs to have much more – is prone to going missing within games

Other

> OK-decent LF kick – typically good weighting over short-med range, can get good depth but not consistently or reliable, but lacks power, seems one sided and hasn’t got slightly below average reliability (prone to shanks)
> Slight reach advantage for his height
> Very good BA U18 year in 2008 where he thrived on the step up from division 2 to 1 in the 2008 U18 championships, doubling his output (and producing his best performance against Vic Metro) – however not quite as impressive this year and struggled at times with extra attention – not as dynamic
> I see his best position through the midfield, but with his build and frame it may be a reach at AFL – could alternatively play off a wing or HBF (if he improves kicking reliability)
> Physically he isn’t ready for consistent AFL action next year due to his build
> Has senior experience in TSFL
> AIS-AFL squad member
> Played in 2 U18 championships (2008 and 2009)

Overall

Crichton is a dynamic medium midfield option, who despite showing a lot of promise last year as a bottom ager, hasn’t kicked on as much this year as a top ager. At worst he will struggle to bulk up and won’t fire much of a shot at AFL, at best he could probably be a top 100-150 player in the competition. I see his value as a mid second round to early 3rd round selection.

How about Mark Hutchings:

. He's a leader as the captain of WA's U18 side, hard as nails, solid skills base and a good work ethic. You would have him down as a tagger early on but he can develop into somthing more attacking, i thought this would be a good selection because it is very safe.

Mark Hutchings (East Perth/WA) – Draft Profile

Height:
181cm

Weight:
81kg

Preferred foot:
Right/Dual Sided

Role: Midfield (offensive or defensive)
Potential:
6.5-7.5/10

Strengths

> Good vision in traffic – can be quite creative with his feeds from traffic

> Very good courage and attack on the football – will consistently put his head over it and more often than not win the footy – goes back with the flight willingly
> Good all-round ball winning and play reading ability both as an inside player and linker – reads and positions himself quite well at stoppages

> Excellent team and work ethic – very hard worker both ways with an excellent engine, good accountability and a strong tackler – capable of playing run with roles with good effect
> Good agility and well balanced in close quarters
> WA U18 coach (Andrew Lockyer) says he possesses “strong leadership skills” – was captain of the 2009 WA U18 team

Weaknesses

> Lacks a yard of pace off the mark (OK over distance) –will sometimes get himself caught out because of it

> Kicking lacks penetration over longer distances – struggles too and rarely kicks over 40m
> Limited versatility – he can play an offensive or defensive midfield role, possibly a small defender role but no real other roles stand out at AFL

Other

> Sound-decent dual sided kick with decent weighting over short range on both sides

> Sound DM - lowish risk/reward gamestyle - can be a tad slow on occasions

> Clean, but not outstanding hands – good in traffic

> OK-decent feeder – decent precision, can be reasonably sharp over short distances, though tends to give the ball too much air at other times
> Doesn't have a big frame but should develop into an OK build

> Should be given opportunities at AFL next year with 15 games of WAFL senior football behind him over the last 2 seasons – I thought he was better in 2008 averaging 15.8d and 0.2g from 5 games vs 12.3d and 0.5g from 10 games in 2009 – however did seem to get noticeably less TOG and opportunities in games this season

Stats

2008 and 2009 WAFL League
2009 WAFL League, Reserves and Colts
2009 U18 Championships

Overall

Hutchings is a solid inside midfield prospect and 100% team footballer without any frills attached. At worst he will be a very good depth player that will excel at state league level but struggle with the step up, at best he could be a valuable foot soldier in the midfield that will allow stars to shine. Worth a 3rd round pick onwards.

I see thanks for that. I was mainly concerned about your mention of his height, but I see he's 183cm and not the 172cm like Blair.:thumbsu: Very skinny though
Her he is

The big H says - I know Jesse very well. Coached him in Primary school as well as playing footy with his dad for twenty years. Also coached him as a 14 year old (alongside his father) playing against men in country seconds. I reckon he was about 45kg at that age!
Watched him play a few weeks ago for North Launceston against Clarence, and was super impressed with his development. What really stood out was his cleanness, usage of the ball under pressure and the depth of his kicking. Kicked a goal into the wind at Aurora stadium that went 60m.
Don't worry about his weight, because he'll fill out well. His dad was a super footballer who was similar to Jesse, but a little taller and played at around the 85-90kg mark. His dad (Brett) could run all day, sprint like a gazelle and would take at least two hangers a match standing on someones head. Also had the greatest blonde mullet ever seen, (and then went bald) which could explain Jesse's hair.

Right didn't notice that, wonder if he's bulked up a bit then.

He is less than 70kg.
He is one player I can't see putting on much weight as he simply doesn't have the body for that a bit like Dick.
Over his career he might go up to about 78kg, but can't see him getting much heavier than that.

One player I don't think has been mentioned once at pick 62 yet on here is:

Alex Carey (Glenelg, SA)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 27/8/91
Recruited from: Flagstaff Hill
An AIS/AFL Academy graduate, Carey is a ball-winning inside midfielder. He is rated as a possible third-rounder by some recruiters through to a late/rookie prospect.
Draft range: 40-rookie

Some have mentioned him as a possible pick at 30? For some reason?

With 30 I'm liking: (If available)
Luke Ball
Troy Taylor
Josh Thomas

With 62 I'm still liking: (If available)
Matthew Panos (Full Forward)

James Craig (Ruck/ Key defender)

Ryan Harwood (Inside mid)

Alex Carey (Inside mid)

Callum Bartlett (Small forward)

Andrew Hooper (Small defender)

78: (If avilable)

Barlow or Sewell (VFL)
Claye Beams (Brother of Dayne)
Dylan Joyce (VFL, small mid)
Shane Page (Small back)
