How come you blokes can bag the likes of Rodan, who has only been around for 2 years, and let Aaron Fiora a number 3 pick who has done absolutely nothing and shows no signs of developing any further after 4 years, can escape criticism. Fiora should not be a tiger next year!

Sorry, I cannot recall any point where David Rodan has been bagged??? We may get frustrated if he occasionally fumbles or runs himself into trouble but all in all, we are quite happy with him.

Fiora hasn't come on anywhere near as quickly as other more noted #3 picks, mainly because he was built like a pretzel when we got him. While he has filled out somewhat, he still has further to go to be a desired size for AFL. What has been noted is that he has steadily improved, almost to the point of being a consistent contributor on a weekly basis.

And while he continues to improve, I doubt he will be removed.

Now if you really wanted to hear some Tiger bagging, you probably don't have to try really hard to find out what we think of the likes of Bowden or Pettifer.
 
Read somewhere that Fiora has re-signed however cannot find any evidence of this anywhere in clubs press releases.

If he hasn't then the only reason I can put it down to is that the club are using him as trade bait.............
 
Too right CJH - i have not seen any bagging of Roden on this sight.

I also think Fiora was worth re signing - we had to give him a bit more time to develop. He was a skinny kid when he came to us and now has 60 games to his credit and is starting to fill out.

He has only ever played under Frawley so i would have hated to have given him away with only that as his guide. He still plays like he is a skinny kid so with a bit more strength and confidence he will grow into that body and could become quite a handy footballer.

If ever i doubt these thoughts i have a look at a piece of play he did agaisnt Port in round 21 when he got the ball at half back on the boundary, ran around the wing dished off the handball, got it back and then hit Zantuck with a 45 metre pin point pass. Have a look at it on the highlights tape of that game on Rrichmond's website. If he tightens his game a notch he could be a very good attacking half back flanker.

As a freaky aside look at his mug shot on the richmond site and notice how much he looks like the current shot of Frawley.

What you forget about Fiora is 20 years ago he would have been a key position player... 186cm
At his height and weight he deserves to be given another year or two to come on. HE is fast and has good disposal. Remember Akermanis was at Brisbane for 5 years before he came good...

Fiora will be a gun!

Pettifer on the other hand is an absolute DUD!
 
Check the thread called "trade time at punt road...." the 2nd and 3rd threads(and a few other minor mentions) Say that he has poor hand skills and only give him one more year.

Also i just wanna catch up and see why you all hate pettifer so much? It is only his 3rd year and i can still see him becoming the flanking forward who we all whinge we want.

back on Fiora, he has barely grown since he was drafted what makes you think it will change this year?

I'd rather Krakouer on a half-forward flank than Pettifer. Krakouer more skillful, works harder to keep the ball in the forward line.
I haven't completly given up on Pettifer but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it if he was to be delisted.

On Fiora and his new contract it was confirmed in the Advertiser probably two Mondays ago now.
 
Nobody ever said that Pettifer didn't have ability. Has sublime skills!

What he doesn't have is courage, which is why nobody has any time for the boy. Can't teach someone not to be scared. Ever see him approach a contest where the ball is in dispute? Has fantastic braking ability! Liken him to an Italian tank in WW2 - 1 speed forward, 5 speed reverse!


Fiora at least puts himself on the line. Give me Fiora over Pettifer any day.
 
Ok, well i'm only new round here so i was interested in your thoughts on Ezra Poyas, I liken him to Kayne pettifer. Wasn't Poyas also from the same draft as Fiora? So why was he not given longer? He won 2 liston medals he had to be doing somthing right!

I would have kept Poyas on never really got much of a chance in the seniors.

Didn't he come out after he got drafted and say he'd be a 200 game player for Richmond or was it that he wanted to be a 200 game player for Richmond.
 
Good luck with trying to get support for pettifer on this board. However i am a bit like Kretchy on this one - i have not given up on him all together, i mean he is not in the must get rid classs a la bidders, king, houlihan however if he did go i would not be shattered.

If anything he has suffered because he has had not much to compete with - a decent game with Coburg got him in the seniors - if we had more depth in the two's then he would have had to fight to get a game in the seniors.

There is no doubt he can kick it when he gets it - it's the lack of getting it that is the worry. He appears to have no confidence what so ever and as i said about Fiora has only ever been coached att his level by Frawley and co. so if he does not have natural confidence then it is difficult to see our current coaching panel instill that in him.

Well Ezra hasn't being playing seniors at Melbourne so it looks like we made the right decision there. As for Kayne, put it this way... I have more balls than Pettifer and I'm female :eek:

Give him one more year to see what he can prove. You dont keep people on the list if they dont prove anything.
 
There certainly was an "unexplained" issue with Poyas that got him the boot. He did or said something that someone at the club did not like. I don't know what it was.

Ezra was a good mark and had a fierce approach to the game. It was not all that tall (shorter than Fiora) and was of average speed. I thought he could have been kept on but something tells me he was already near his peak of performance, lets say he possibly had about 5 - 10% improvement in him. Fiora and certainly Pettifer would have more.

Ezra was picked up on the supp list for Melbourne this year - i have no idea how his season went. In style of game he reminded me of Ross Funcke.
 
We have been a joke when it comes to trades and the draft. Every year there is a list of great players and we go for dead wood... perhaps the biggest miss of last year was Stephen Powell saints had first pick and richmond had spent so much time chasing lapin that he lost interest. If we had shown a bit of nous we could have got him....
 
The other problem being we had spent all our cash so we couldn't recruit anyone via the pre season draft.

Watched Fiora for a few years now like the rest of you. Think he has great skills, can mark, kick long and is quick (enough). Problem is I don't think he has a great football brain. Seen him 'freeze' a number of times like a stunned rabbit caught in headlights. Also goes missing for extended periods in games. I don't think he will make it as the footballer everyone hoped he would be, and I for one would not be unhappy with a trade.
