I don’t have an issue with that ESTA is easy

just because you have an ESTA doesnt mean you get let in

New Trump rule could have major effect on Aussie tourists - Dec 11, 2025

Australians could find entering the US a more laborious process when looking to enter the US under a new proposal. There will also be concerns the plan could lead to more Australian’s being barred entry.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) service has proposed that all tourists applying for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) would now have to list their social media activity.

ESTAs are an alternative to visas and are usually a relatively quick way to gain the OK to enter the US for a limited time.
In addition, visitors applying for an ESTA would have to list all emails, phone numbers as well as details of family members over the same period.

Those applying for longer term visas have to go through some level of the above which makes the process far more time consuming.

Currently, US border officials can ask to look at social media accounts of people entering the country of they have cause to believe the content could harm the US.

“CBP is adding social media as a mandatory data element for an ESTA application,” a notice in the US Federal Register sated.
“The data element will require ESTA applicants to provide their social media from the last 5 years”.

It’s not clear what information will be required. Will, for instance, social media accounts need to be made public? What about shuttered social media accounts.

The notice refers to a January executive order by Donald Trump that refers to efforts to stop those coming to the US who “intend to harm Americans or our national interests”.

“The United States must ensure that admitted aliens and aliens otherwise already present in the United States do not bear hostile attitudes toward its citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles, and do not advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists or other threats to our national security.”

Is Big Footy classed as social media? If so I'm stuffed!

I'm wasn't planning on travelling to the US anytime soon anyway, especially not while the Orange Buffoon is in charge! (Whoops am I allowed to say that? 😜)

This is in addition to the information already collected in the ESTA application.

The high value data fields include:
a. Telephone numbers used in the last five years;
b. Email addresses used in the last ten years;
c. IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos;
d. Family member names (parents, spouse, siblings, children);

I visited my auntie in the nursing home. She was really good.

I feel for the aged care workers having to deal with the residents that have dementia that are agro and rude ☹️.
