Who, if at all, do you think will be elevated this year or during the 2012 Draft period? And why?

For me I can only see Hartley being promoted during the draft period and Mooney possibly during the year.

Hartley he is not needed this year with Reid, Brown, Tarrant and Keeffe all ahead of him for KPD, but you would expect Tarrant to retire/slow down by 2013 and from what we have heard Hartley is going to be a fairly good shut down tall defender. Hartley is quick and can jump and is someone who could negate the likes of Butcher, Reid, Naitanui, Lynch, Jones, Patton, Watts and Darling as they emerge as big, athletic KPF's and we would want to be giving Hatley some AFL experience within the next 1-2 years to find out what exactly he can do.

Mooney is a possibility for an upgrade this year with Elliot, Didak, Krakouer all now suffering from limited preseasons. In terms of backup small forwards we have Ugle, Sinclair and possibly Rounds, but none are exactly promising, add to that Sinclair and Rounds are injury prone. If Mooney can continue on his impressive improvement he could be looking at overtaking these players as the first call for a defensive forward with explosive attack.

All in all, I can't wait to see these 2 in the NAB. We will really get to see what prospects we have for the future.

How did Marley Williams fare in that U23 match the other day? I liked what I saw of him, nice bit of swagger and looks ready physically for the AFL.

I don't expect any to be elevated this year, but Mooney & Hartley in particular look like they're the ones most capable of making the senior list. Cribbin, Smith & Williams I don't know enough about but people seem to rate Cribbin. Stubbs, Farmer & McNamara woud have to improve quite a bit to be retained, and I'd be surprised if they were to be honest.

It's a shame promotion of rookies to the senior list to cover injuries is so restrictive because I'd like to see Shae given a couple of games at senior level to get a better idea about his longer term potential. Be great if you could select him for the GWS and Port Adelaide games.

You'd think Shae, Farmer, Stubbs and Cribbin would need to have good years to be retained beyond 2012. The rest possibly have more time.

Hartley appears very likely to get promoted to the senior list, just a matter of timing.

I think as of last year teams could promote 1 or 2 rookies half way through the year without having a long term injury, so the option would be there.

Can't a rookie play a certain amount of games before being promoted? If at all being promoted? I.e. Fremantle last year when they ran out of players (and they also got special consideration to go over this threashold, I think?)

We should promote Hartley just for the GWS game later in the year, so he can continue his run of making Patton his bitch.:p

I can't see any of them being promoted, we have so much youth on our senior list this year that to get a game, they would have to rely on us going on a Freo like injury run (although early signs are pointing to that already;)).

Yeah, based on that I'd say Williams is the front-runner.

Mind you, Mooney could be a chance later in the season, and I did like the look of Hartley in that game. I would be surprised if we need him this season however, given we should have all of Reid/Brown/Taz down back and Hartley is unlikely to cut it anywhere other than KPD at least early in his career. He's not a high-possession guy.

Williams can definitely play and I thought Hartley, behind Toovey and Shaw, was our best shut down defender tonight.

I knew Williams was the goods! I just knew it! I know its only 2 nab games but you can tell already that he has toughness and awareness. I loved that ball he played through to swan on the ground through the 2 doggy players .

I initially thought that he's kicked got smothered. Then they showed the replay and saw his crafty piece of work :thumbsu:

Right at this minute I would be opting ther little fella Marley Williams gee I liked what I saw in nab1...if Macaffer is done for the season (so unfair for this premiership player) can they promote a rookie to the senior list if the Caff is truly done for 2012 or do they wait til week 11 :confused::confused:

I suppose we will get to see Ugle and some more youngsters over the next month so might have to wait til then to make a more informed decision

Well have to wait until at least 5-6 VFL games before we can talk for sure about whos up for elevation

Said the same thing about Bolton last year and he is now in the VFL with Werribe

Yes, if we have a player on the long term injury list then they can promote immediately. I think they will not promote until a few VFL games played & someone earns it.

There is zero point in promoting a rookie at this stage. It's a similar story to last season when Brown got injured and we didn't promote any players. The club will only do it when a player on the rookie list is in contention to play in the seniors, otherwise they're just taking up a spot and stopping any other rookies from perhaps getting a game.
