Time for the Recruiting a Team to be fired with extreme prejudice!

2006- Clayton Collard, our worst draft year. Every recruit a failure.

2007- Rhys Palmer ( Great first year player who broke Barlow's leg by accident ) Still playing for GWS.

2008- Stephen Hill , our best draft year.

2009- Anthony Morabito, desperately unlucky and a great player called Fyfe.

2010- Jayden Pitt. A totally lost year, a complete bust.

2011- Tom Sherridan. A high draft pick disappointment. A bust of a draft except for Sutcliffe.

2012- Josh Simpson. Disgusting choice who betrayed us. Another bust of a year.

2013- Michael Apeness. Another injury plagued talent like Morabito. Key position prospect taken well after our problems have come home to roost. Pass year for draft.

2014- Lachie Weller. Finally looking like our first draft win since 2008.

2015- Darcey Tucker. Looks to be a good selection year. Still to be determined.

By my assessment that is 3 years out of 10 where we have had some form of success without any Father / Son prospects.

We can't even say that we have had 10 great players over 10 years. When you are looking at bringing at least 4 new players to the club every year, is it any wonder we haven't won a flag.

A depressing review over our draft history.

I know its just first rounders but you can't say some drafts were complete busts with some of the later picks + rookie pick ups...eg.

2007 picked up Mayne...yes last 2 and a bit years subpar but looking as a whole, was a good pick esp his performances in 2012 & 2013
2008...Son Son :)
2013 also picked up AP...our next 10 year KPB...Grey too who I think will be handy

Clayton Collard was picked in the 30's. Not a first rounder.

What people also don't always mention with the likes of Simpson, Pitt, Sheridan and Crozier, is that while they were our first round picks in those years, in that same time, GWS/GC has astonishing numbers of first round picks. If GC came in a year later, we would have had pick 12 (Melbourne picked Lucas Cook there) rather than having the pick 20 we ended up having. The Sheridan pick would have been about pick 7. Simpson would have been a few picks higher as well. Compromised drafts cost us value in our first rounders, which meant that rather than topping up with young quality on our way up (like Melbourne appear to be doing), we had the picks that the top side would have had as firsts, or what would have been high second rounders.

Also, a reminder with 06, we traded Polak, Medhurst, pick 13, pick 8 (Ben Reid and Jack Reiwoldt) for Chris Tarrant.

Can never be satisfied enough but not a complete disaster based on the way I read your initial post...think every club has regrets on those they passed up. Unfortunately no fool proof formula to always pick up absolute guns...some highly rated youngers don't make it whilst some less rated end up being top end or solid players.

So what you guys are saying is that you are satisfied with our drafting over the last 10 years?

With hindsight, I could be the best tipper in the world, and the best recruiter. 'Pick that Adam Goodes kid. He goes alright.'

We've had some wins, and lots of losses. Would like to see how our success rate stacks up against other teams.

Missing out on the McGovern brothers hurts, Hill's brother could of been handy.

Don't like our strategy of best available as it's lead us to this, still no Pav replacement after how many years.

You can also add the 20 or so young players that never entered into the regular draft at all (through pre-selection, mini-draft etc.), nearly all of those would have been 1st-2nd round picks in a 'regular' situation. The drop-off in known* top end talent in those compromised drafts for those at the lower end of the order was significant.

* Stress known, there's always gems of course as history has shown.

Does anybody seriously believe this guy is a Freo supporter?

He was common around here through roughly 09/10. Backing in the most unlikely of prospects such as Alex Howson and Casey Sibasado.

Barely a peep through our (somewhat) successful years, now the second we're down he's back calling for our recruiters heads. Hmmm.

Not to mention our current recruitment team had little-to-nothing to do with the 06/07 drafts.

I dont think we could have done any more than 10% better in 2011 and 2012 even in hindsight - look at the players taken afterwards, who are the obvious changes?

What the hell did Simpson do to you? If anything, you could argue the "system" betrayed him. It was the correct selection to risk the chance that he couldn't fit in. Would be close to the worst draft class in history. Maybe 5-6 good players taken before him, and not one single non-F/S player after him that is any good. Apart from maybe an OK ruckman who had weird interviews (e.g. telling Melbourne they were shit and wouldn't play for them) and would have gone back to Victoria anyway.

I think the "guys" are still sorting out your BS inaccuracies/vile misrepresentations.
So let'em go for a few weeks on that and then ask the question.
It's a bit ill informed/infantile the way you're going about it.

I guess Freo's a good team to follow if you really like getting stuck into the down times?

was a shit draft but it is hard to explain why we took a punt on a first round pick. And it was a punt.

Thanks for the love guys!
Should we review our trading history now or shall we continue to avoid the original point?
