First Round Draft Pick for Brown

I'm assuming they mean "First Round" as in the same as Bock's "First Round" which is in reality a pick in the middle of First and Second rounds.

Still well above market value. Will wait to see if it is true though

I can't stop grinning from ear to ear!!!

Welcome to the AFL GC17 :D

First round from 2012 - to me that sounds like whatever pick we get based on where we finish at the end of 2012, if we nominate to use it then we get the next pick as well (ie, 2 consecutive picks)

Whereas if we choose to use it in the next 2 compromised drafts then the pick will be at the conclusion of the 1st round

Reported on the Herald Sun

UPDATE 4.27pm: HAWTHORN will receive a first-round draft pick as compensation for losing Campbell Brown to the Gold Coast.
The AFL is set to release the club's compensation this afternoon but it is understood the league will grade Brown in one of its highest categories.
The expectation was Brown would be deserving of only a second-round pick, but Hawthorn is pleasently surprised to be given an earlier selection.
The Hawks can use the pick in the first round from 2012, or use it at the start of the second round in this year's draft.
Premiership defender Brown was unveiled this morning as the Gold Coast's fourth uncontracted recruit.
He denied being offered for trade last year had led to his decision to quit the Hawks, saying his move was motivated by a desire to re-establish himself as one of the league's best defenders.

I am happy with a first round pick if it is indeed true. This is more than he is worth, but considering he is a p'ship player, that adds.

At 27, a first round pick (from 2012) or 2nd round this year is great!

Now, what will geelong get for ablett?? a first round? no.1 pick? this will be interesting!

So putting two and two together, you would expect Geelong to get a pick before us ?
I think Gary Jnr is worth a bit more than Campbell don't you? If Bock and Brown are worth first rounders Ablett is worth two first rounders at least.
I still feel Xmas came a bit early to the Hawks this year. A first rounder is very good fo a small defender regardless of how good he is.

So our strategy will be to hold on to our pick and use it next year?????

I would be happy to trade the pick away. If we could trade it to someone for a talented ruckmen, i would be happy. Tbh, i think our defence is alright, especially if we add Tarrant to it, but Tarrant isn't worth a first rounder. Trading the pick seems more appropriate, considering the age of our list. If we were to get an 18 year old, especially a KPP, it would take him 3 or 4 years to develop, by which time our premiership window could be shut.

I am happy with that, thought Browny as good as player as he is, was only worth a 2nd round pick.

Would be happy if they traded that pick to get a quality defender or ruckman, won't be happy if they use the pick to get Chris Tarrant.

Good result I guess.

Will be interesting to see what number pick we get.

Reading the HUN article we can only use it this year or next:

"The Hawks can use the pick in the first round from 2012, or use it at the start of the second round in this year's draft."

I'd use it next year.

Depends on our 'list management', commonsense tells you to take the pick next year, however, if we have our eyes on a player and they fall as a 2nd rounder this year, we should use it. However there is no indication as to whether the pick is high or low in the first round. Time will tell!

I think its tough to decide when to take it. Pelchen will have to earn his keep here. If we take it this year, around the 25 mark, we know it is in a very strong draft and still have a chance of getting a really good player. Taking it in 2 years time in the first round is more of a risk. Although the pick is earlier, the draft talent could be not as strong in this pool and the lower pick may not translate to a better prospect.
