Absolutely stoked about recieving a 1st rounder fro Browny guys, will we use it this year?? Save it ?? Or trade it for a pacy midfielder/key backmen??

Thoughts guys??

Also if we used it this year around what number pick would it be?? Compared to if we saved it for next.

If we use it this year it's a second rounder. Maybe worth a trade.

If we want the pick surely save it for next year so it's a first rounder.

Its officially Offical. Same as pick structure that Crows and lions got:
MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The AFL wishes to advise the Hawthorn Football Club was today formally notified of the compensation national draft selection it would receive in return for having had an uncontracted player elect to join the newly-formed Gold Coast Football Club.

Under the List Establishment Rules for the Gold Coast Football Club, the AFL's 17th team has the right to select one uncontracted player from each of the current 16 AFL clubs, with a compensation package to be determined in one of five bands, based on the new contract offer to the player and his future earning / playing capacity.

It had been determined that Hawthorn would receive an end of Round One selection for Campbell Brown.

In full detail, the compensation package is explained as follows:
Hawthorn - End of Round One selection.
The selection for Campbell Brown may be activated by Hawthorn at the end of round one in any one of the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 or 2014 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings. The selection will be immediately placed after the selection of the premiership team of that season (which concludes round one), and any compensation pick under AFL Rule 6 (In 2010, West Coast will receive a selection under this rule). In the case of two or more clubs activating an end of round one selection in the one AFL Draft Meeting, the club(s) that is (are) placed lower on the premiership ladder in that particular season, will be placed first in the selection order.
For the selection to be activated for the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, Hawthorn will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by November 5, 2010.
For the selection to be activated for any of the years 2011-2014 in the NAB AFL Draft of that particular year, Hawthorn will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by the last Tuesday of that particular year, prior to the start of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
The club has the right to on-trade its compensation selection to another club.
If the club on-trades its compensation selection to another club, the selection may be used in that year's NAB AFL Draft Selection meeting, or in any other year up to the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

So if geelong get a similar compo pick for Ablett, and want to take it in 2010 - we get the pick before it ?

Nice :) :)

in 2012 the draft will be picked clean by the GWS.

like the idea of a wild card in any draft after that

If we trade it does its wild card status change ?

Cannot believe this. You guys must be loving it.

It doesn't say end of first round either does it.

meaning if in 2012 you finish last you could use it and get pick 2 from what I understand. Not saying you will finish there but this is a huge huge gift from the AFL.

That is an absolute disgrace.
Bock is twice the player brown is.
It just makes me want to cry!

The mind boggles. If we offered a trade of Brown for Bock, we'd be laughed out of town.

We'll take it though. Tough break for the Crows. For the record, I said when the Bock stuff first came out that he should've been Band 2

Not often I'm happy when you lot are happy but that's a win for the good guys all around.

Good to see someone at least doing well out of GC.

You must be pissing yourselves all the way to the bank, and rightly so.

(Wanna trade it for Hale?)

It's the same pick as Bock, it's not a first round 'after our first selection pick' it's an end of first round pick. It's end of first round regardless of what year we use it, it's just that the number will be lower if it's used in the 2012 draft or later. We might get a pick 17 for it, if we're patient.

I reckon that's a great result all around. Browny has secured his financial future, we have received great service from him in his best years, and just think - 4 or 5 years from now we might have gun youngster come into the team around about the time Campbell is retiring.

As i have posted in another thread, if we use this pick this year or next year it will be worth a 2nd rounder because of the concessions to GWS etc taking the good 17's before the draft then all the picks they get.

We must use this 2012 or after. we will get 2 1st round picks then, DO NOT get all excited and use it this year because you will be literally 20 spots further down the draft order. if we use it at the end of the 1st round in 2012 thats pick 19. If its used this year it will efectively be a pick 38. I mean that by, GC have taken 12 17's already(they would have gone 1st round) plus the 1st round ends at 25 so that is really mean the pick will be the 38th best kid in the country. as apposed to 2012 where it will be pick 19. You just cant afford to do this. its basically worth pick 7 in this year as pick 7 will be the 19th best player taken. So if you pretend its pick 7, and a trade comes up that we think it equates to pick 7 then its fine to use it.

It is a business and we cant afford make bad decisions eg Thorp Dowler. Obviously we werent do know at the time but looking back it was bad decisions either way

It makes me love Campbell all the more.

Maybe the whingeing and bitching we did last year when Browny was a possibility of being trade contributed?

The Crows should be deservedly pissed!

and to think we decided yesterdaqy not to appeal. Unbelievable...

That's all there is to say. Except I think there may well be some bomb threats at AFC head quarters over the coming days.
