Fixture changes on the cards for Rounds 21 & 22.

The AFL have flagged changes to the fixture in the final two rounds so that a Qualifying Final can be played on the first Friday night of the finals series.

With three of the probable Qualifying finalists scheduled to play on the final Sunday of the season, the Collingwood v Western Bulldogs game is likely to be moved to Friday night and replace the West Coast v Richmond game which will be relegated to the Sunday twilight timeslot.

For this to take place, in round 21, Collingwood v Sydney will be moved to Saturday night from Sunday and the Richmond v Hawthorn game to be swapped to Sunday.

This is the preferred option by the AFL, but alot of stakeholders need to tick this off before it happens.

Rest assured the AFL will tinker with the fixture in the lead up to the finals. Leaving the fixture as it is prior to the finals doesn't make sense.

On my Premiership season fixture card it says in small print "Matches to be played on grounds of first-named clubs except where otherwise determined by the AFL. Fixture is subject to change without notice."

So it's pretty clear that they can change it whenever they want.

**** that, why should Collingwood fans get to watch their team more than me? I want to see Cuz's reception when he goes back home. **** you AFL.

a good thing about the fixture being made available the preceding October is so that fans can plan and book their footy trips for the upcoming season...

it's okay to fiddle with the start times (Saints-Cats pushed back an hour) and venues if its in the same metro area (applicable for Melbourne and Sydney, although its been 9 years since the AFL have actually done this), but changing the actual day of the game with only a month's notice is not on, as people say, stuffs up people's plans they have had months in advance....

the last time i remember it happening was i think 2004, a Sydney v Brisbane match had to be moved to Sunday because of a BloodySlow Cup match got preference the night before, but this was sorted out months before the season even started and wasn't even the AFL's fault

hmmmm, are you forgetting there will be 5 other teams playing in the finals........Geelong, Adelaide, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Brisbane are all playing on a Saturday.

And they are all entitled to at least a six day break. Its about scheduling. The AFL want a blockbuster on the Friday night to give the networks their value for money, so they'd prefer a Geelong or StKilda game on the Friday night. To do that they have to move the Colingwood Bulldogs game.

The first question must be:

Why on Earth did the AFL put the 3rd, 4th and 5th team on Sunday?

Next year:
4:40 - West Coast v Melbourne
2:10 - Richmond v Fremantle
1:10 - Sydney v North Melbourne

I know every team can make the 8 but you would not expect most of those sides to finish in the 8. Reduce the likelihood of this happening.

Where is this flagged apart from in your mind? What a crock! Aint going to happen. More chance of winning Powerball.

Why don't the AFL just schedule 2 Friday night games and 6 Saturday afternoon games at the start of the year so it's as even as possible come finals time.

They should just fixture the 8 games and venues without times for the last round. Then say 13-14 rounds in they will have a clearer picture and can slot the games into time slots.

Similar to what the NRL do.
