Fixture

don't count on it, its easy to screw teams behind the scenes then belittle them in public about poor performances knowing the media wont look past their noses at the hows and why's.

we'll get screwed more next year than any other year.

I read the article, nicely written, good find.

the only minor things left out is that the screwing of our fixture by playing interstate teams interstate is by our design, Port/Adel in Adelaide because we lost a shit ton of cash vs them at home under the old stadium deal and also we request to play Hawks/North in Tas ( and I don't mind that ( playing in Tas) from the club as a membership strategy )

on the flip side though, its a reflection of the season/s we've had, had we been the finals contender we were supposed to be then all that math changes.

North/WC/Pies were supposed to be terrible, if they were and we didn't suck so much then it all changes

Hopefully we can get some luck with our fixture next season.

With our fixture this year, we never had a chance to build a small amount of momentum to try and regain some confidence within the team because we were playing top eight sides every week. While it wouldnt have change the overall result of the season, the pressure within the club might have been alleviated a bit and made it a more pleasant environment.

FWIW, I have zero confidence about a better draw in 2019 :(

Well, we started with Brisbane in Melbourne, the Roos and Adelaide in Melbourne.

Our next 9 matches were against eight top 8 sides and Freo in Perth (where Carlisle got kneed by Fyfe). For a struggling team, there was little chance to build any hope.

In contrast, the dogs who were also performing terribly and being beaten by large margins at this point in the season had a month where they played Carlton, Gold Coast and Brisbane consecutively (all teams we beat) which helped lift the positivity around the place and gave the players/supporters hope. The fixture can make a huge difference to the day to day vibe of the club.

A wise man once told me "If you're good you win, if you're crap you lose"

A not very wise man said if you are rubbish and play good teams more than once and interstate teams away you look even more rubbish.

Yeah, we really had everything go wrong from fixture to injury. You can definitely get momentum from an easy draw. Collingwood showed that.

Hopefully we used all the bad luck up this year.

Even with the injuries, once we started to gain some small amount of momentum after beating Melbourne, we lost Brown, Battle, Bruce, Carlisle before the next game and Paddy was injured in the first quarter of the next game. You cant script that amount of bad luck.

Good News: we don't play Port Adelaide in South Australia

Bad News: we play them in China

playing interstate is basically the St Kilda thing ... the AFL will always send us to every corner every year ... thats a given ... where it really kicks in the guts is when we have two WA game in 4 weeks and then a Qld trip two weeks later so in 6 weeks we traveled to the two furthest away games 3 times ... we then had the bye and guess what 2 weeks later off to Adelaide.. two weeks after that yep off to Sydney .... now i get the interstate clubs travel every second week so we cant complain to much but the trade off for that extra travel is the significant home ground advantage they have when they are at home for our home games 4 of them were against teams we share the same home ground with ...
we usually get screwed with the fixture but this year was some really sadistic painal type screwing we got from the AFL
