You serious BC?
99% sure, they had a mini-athletics meet over the pre-season.

Col Garland is apparently a freak over 400m. Just goes to show it really means bugger all in the bigger picture.

Bartram_class...ur an idiot if you think neitz would beat davey over 100m. please think before you post. if u think you are right, post it on the main board and get eaten alive. Up the medication.

Too true. he has been terribly disappointing this year. And Meesen is apparently a freak for a big fella but maybe isn't cut out for football as well.
I must say i've always liked footballers first, athletes second (like peter bell, greg williams etc) but sadly i think the game's going in a different direction!

Sure will mate.

You ever seen a proper 100m race?

Whats the average samatotype of the participants Ooze? Pretty hulking aren't they?

Now I've never seen Neitz and Davey go head to head over 100m, but from what i've read Neitz pips him and I see no reason to doubt that. Neitz wouldn't have played out of FF most of his career had he not been quick, and as a tall man, he would get some pretty decent strides in once he works up a bit of pace.

Hi guys, not trolling, but NO aus rules footballer today could make the olympics as a sprinter. (Don't worry, we have the same discussion re Deledio on our board).

Not saying they couldn't have made it, but they needed to commit themselves to aths rather than footy early.

Playing footy, you need quickness rather than speed - you only have to be in front after 2 metres, not 100. To give my favorite example - Mick Martin. Slower than continental drift over 100, but very quick over 2-5 metres.

I'm a (junior) aths coach - we have to manage the kids who are doing both aths and footy at U/13 level - the footy training is already impacting the aths (and vice-versa, probably).

It is a fun what-if, however. And the comment re hammies is very pertinent - competetive sprint training is lethal on soft tissue.

worlds best sprinters are bulky yes...but davey and neitz are not worlds best sprinters. Davey's sprints don't go for 20-30 metres they go for far longer. By the 60metre line of the 100m, Davey would be probably 20metres ahead. Its already been well documented by the players themselves that Davey is the quickest over that 100m, and by a long way. Davey would be around 11....neitz 13. And Davey isn't that small, he might look small on the footy ground but he wouldn't look THAT small if he was wearing those tight body suits that they wear. And by your theory that Neitz must be fast coz he was a FF, i'll just mention the name Tony Lockett.
