Time flies by.

IF AARON Davey ran Melbourne's selection committee, three names would definitely be in the ins column this week: Whelan, Wonaemirri and Jurrah — and with rookies Jetta and Bennell holding their spots.

The reason is that this Sunday's match against Port Adelaide will be the livewire forward's 100th and Davey said the occasion, ideally, would be shared by "the six of us".

Get 'em in I say Dean. Jurrah has shown enough, a half-fit Whelan is good enough for me. ;)

To be totally honest, there wouldn't be a great deal to lose if they were to be included. It isn't as if Jurrah could do any worse than some of our other forward options, in fact he looks like a better forward prospect in the long term than most of the others currently down there, Petterd being one example. I really hope he can provide some spark and energy once he is up to the AFL level, assuming he makes it of course.

A keener man than me might have spotted the mis-spelling of Aussie's last name in the article, however we won't get too anal about it.

Any one else think it's weird the Indigenous boys segregate themselves so much from the group? It's important for them to help each other through the culture changes and everything but...I dunno, I just don't want any sort of rift in the playing group.

I agree its a "them and us situation". Hmmm i also dont like that.

Sure it is. I suppose the "whitey" trains on the other side of the ground too?

Get a grip. They might be brought together by the fact they are aboriginal, but they are not that much different to any group of close friends within a club. The suggestion it might cause is a "rift" is ludicrous.

I agree, the notion of a rift being present is over the top to say the least, however I wouldn't discard the idea that is some kind of distinction between the two groups. I guess it is a similarity attraction kind of thing, so in some sense it would be like people possessing similar personalities spending time together.

I would suggest that there are other segregated groups within the club too, based on other factors, but it is difficult to make such assumptions being outsiders. I think there is a degree of this in any group or team, but from observation the relationships at Melbourne seem to be pretty harmonious and inclusive.

As you would've been able to tell from my original post, I was a bit unsure on my own position with the topic. Just a gut feeling I'm getting. It's more than just a group of mates sticking together like normal. I doubt a bloke would come out and say "I hope my mates Bluey, Rowdy and Dippa can play my 100 with me" if they aren't 22 worthy. Sadly it's just human nature that when ever favouritism starts occuring due to race or colour, stuff happens.
