I can understand the way he feels, he had been told all the way through he was a required player, even through trade week.
I reckon we could of got a pick around 40-50 for him, or maybe thrown him in with a "package" deal for some good pick/s.

For all his tough qualities, flemming would never take us to a flag. No skill whatsoever. Almost as bad as D Kellaway in the skill dept.

I have no sympathy for players not good enough. Good luck to him where ever he may end up but I'm glad its not Richmond, for too many years we have given credit to players at the RFC who supposedly gave it their all but didnt have the skills required to make us a top class team.

The bloke was an out and out warrior . He would play on the James Hirds every week and kick thier butt`s .

he had his weakness in his kicking but im with idgaf, the guy was a champion player and i really think those of you bagging him are either deluded or too young to remember him at his best.
Have to agree with DT and IGDAF. Duncan was a champ. He was a wonky kick but he never turned it over as much as a Chaffey or Bowden. In fact his skills were great - great hands, great mark, great below his knees, great tackler, good by hand and generally solid decision making, great defensive positioning, great courage, great concentration, great discipline, great sheperding and blocking, good footy smarts.
Lets not be one dimensional, yes his kicking could and should have been better but at one stage of his career he was the best defensive player in the game and probably the first player picked by the Tiges. He was better than Kirk who is now the league's no 1 tagger and All Australian. I remember him keeping Buckley to 8 possesions and Ricciuto to 2. He regularly beat the above as well as Hird. Despite conceding inches he played on and beat Carey and quelled players such as Ablett and Lockett who he should not have had to play on but we had no other options.
It would be great if he could kick like Broderick or Knights but if he did he probably would have won half a dozen brownlows. He was an imperfect champ but a champ none the less.

spot on, its been 4 years or so since we saw the best of DK, tough as they come , courageous acts were par for the course , always on much bigger opponents...sure his kicking was was no Knighter with his kicking , however he worked within his limitations often handblalling and opting for short kicks...He will always be remebered as a class act....
Footnote re the Kellaways....soon after the Jack Dyer foundation was launched I wandered over to back of stand to have a look at the plaques that noted those who have donated....first of the players were Duncan and Andy Kellaway, somehow that did not surprise me

i would not call him a champion at all, he had tough smarts and was courageous but to call him a champion makes blokes like bullus seem champions too...he was a servicable player not endowed with good football possession and disposal skills

I don't think anyone could dispute DK's courage. Not for a moment. HOWEVER... the guy had the skills of an under 15. This is exactly why we have not progressed. We're happy with mediocrity. He was a mediocre player and why people rate him so highly is beyond me. Sure he had the odd good game against the buckleys and the hirds but to say DK was a champion is a joke. I cringed every time he kicked the ball. He kicked like a crab with a broken leg. Tagging opposition will only get you so far. You need to be able to win games. We didn't do this with DK in the team in addition to some other cripples that have graced the field.

duncans weaknesses were highlighted by the fact that so much of the rest of the team was crap, but you are entitled to your opinion.
