Racial abuse was common when I was growing up, and I'm not quite 40 yet. We've moved away from accepting racism as a normal part of life, by and large, and we'll get there in relation to sexuality sooner or later.

It's fascinating to see how easily people can justify their bigotry. This case has been an eye-opener for me.

I haven't seen any practical examples to demonstrate that. Feel free to elaborate.

What I have seen is poor people being sucked in to give from their lowly minimum wage pay checks to fund the legal battle of a multi-millionaire, who subsequently failed to fulfill his obligation to follow through on a legal fight over freedom of speech, only to take a payout and leave the lowly plebs to foot his legal bill while he walks away with the smile of a man who just won the lottery.

It's comedy heaven, no?

If there are any corporations with lower ethical standards than Folau, I'll take Folau's side. Do you know of any?

I’m not expressing any opinion. But he said RA had all the legal cards in their hands and once Folau’s team realised that reality they would have caved quickly.

Because if you were Rugby Australia and you had been thrust into a position where you were part of a controversy that was divisive with knuckledraggers, Supremacists and a rabid right wing media against you trying to milk this issue for all it's worth, wouldn't you like to put an end to it? The only ones that were being hurt in all of this were Rugby Australia and the cost to fight this moron, would probably have been more than the payout that the highly principled Supremacist grabbed and ran away with.

The decision by Rugby Australia was a pragmatic one: cut your loses and stop being in the press for all the wrong reasons. Just imagine what would be the consequences for Rugby Australia if this was dragged through the courts. It would be a free for all for the Jones' and Murdoch gutter press and win or lose the court case brought on by the bimbo, Rugby Australia would lose. It was a no win situation for them. If they had won after a protracted court case, that would only have created a very loud backlash from the same suspects in the "mainstream" media and Rugby Australia would once again be smack bang in the middle of a controversy.

There have been many a "non right wing" reporting in msm on this as well, the feed, the drum, q&a to name just a few - you're right, of course RA would want to end it. Regardless of what the result would've been if they didn't settle the damage was already done, as soon as Folau challenged it was already a bad bad look for RA, because their contradictory code of conduct allowed it to be.

Regardless of whether RA would've won or not, they can't escape how it was allowed to get this far in the 1st place. Bunkering down to your hypocritical code of conduct just makes you look like you're on your knees like a sucky school kid to your main sponsor - Qantas. Both sides of the media reported the sponsorship as a possible reason as to why RA doubled down and the media hypothesised if it had gone that far if RA was not so "needy" of Qantas.

And because Folau took advantage of the conflict of interest within that code of conduct policy, the government doesn't want to look bad either to the churchy types. Enter freedom of religious rights bill.

I would say somewhere between $5 and $8 million is probably close to the money.

Cant see Folau accepting less than $5 mil.
