Nathan Foley was elevated off the rookie list today.

Will probably play tommorrow night to replace Bling. For those who haven't seen him he's a small inside midfielder.Gets alot of possesions for Coburg.Be interesting to see how he handles the big league.

The only reason he would be elevated is if we are going to play him you would think. Exciting stuff.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i would rather see raines , jackson in rather then him in this game

I think outs Bowden and Tambling, in Stafford and Jackson

Although both Jackson and Raines look like being gun players for the Tigers, they still have a lot to learn. especially Jackson. They need time to develop the thinking side of the game this year.

Nathan Foley is a very very smart footballer. Often polls over 30 possessions a game for Coburg, so he obviously knows how to read the play. Plus he's also not afraid of getting under a pack. He's well worth the promotion and he'll be a player... mark my words.

Was Rodan the one moved to the Long-term injury list to make the space for Foley???

Good luck to the youngster. Haven't heard much about him, but if TW is willing to play him ahead of Rainesy and Jacko then he must be something special.

Where'd you hear this? It's not on the richmond of afl websites at this stage

It is now !!!!!!!!!

WOOHOO as self confessed president of his fan club :D (check lots of my earlier posts) this is great.

Craig Lambert type playing. Great hands. Love his work at Coburg.

Foley to debut for Tigers

Richmond is set to unleash its fifth AFL debutant for the season when it takes on Melbourne at Telstra Dome on Friday night.

Hard-working midfielder Nathan Foley will don the yellow and black for the first time against the Demons after Richmond coach Terry Wallace confirmed the 19 year-old would line-up in round 10.

"Nathan Foley will play his first game for the footy club on the weekend, coming off the rookie list," Wallace said

"It's just a terrific story. He's a young kid who has lacked opportunity because of his size and he missed out on getting into the system in the first place.

"He's had a lot of trouble with knee injuries along the way and he's had several operations on his knee.

"He's just been knocking down the door at Coburg and he wins the footy, so we thought why not give him an opportunity of playing at senior level to see whether he can do exactly the same."

Originally from Colac, via the Geelong Falcons, Foley was the fourth player selected in the 2004 NAB AFL Rookie Draft - held in December 2003 - and was impressive last year with the Coburg Tigers at VFL level.

He was the only player retained on Richmond's rookie list this season and he has since notched up a further six matches in the VFL this year, where he has continued to shine, which has forced his promotion to the AFL ranks.

Raines is a different small to Foley. Flashy outside type.

Jackson, whilst i like him, is a different player altogether - he will come in when a similair body is out.

Have heard that Foley is in, aswell as one of jackson or raines(if bowden doesn't play) so i guess maybe foley is in for tambling. Not sure where that leaves stafford but maybe staff would come in for schulz if he's fit.

And wearing 41 too! Who last wore 41? Who was the last left footer to wear 41? Has a left footer ever worn 41? Has anyone from Colac ever worn 41? Has anyone who is a left footed rookie from Colac worn 41? Has Scott Turner ever been to Colac?I await Rhett's next edition with baited breath!

This is awesome news, well done to him. Terry has said he wants to have a look at this kid in the seniors to be able to make a judgement on him, and we are doing better than expected financially so can afford to promote him now that an opportunity has arisen.

Yes, in some ways it would have been nice to see Jackson or Raines playing, but their time will come. Foley has worked hard and played well consistently at Coburg and deserves the chance.

I wonder whether Alex Gilmour might have been a shot had he not gotten injured a week or two ago...
