The highly provocative Caro puts us 9th! I'll take that - better to start off the season under-rated!
I'm a little worried i must admit - they kept King's injury under wraps last year - hope they are a bit more honest with us this year.

Incidentally - what does this mean? From Bay 13
lol, you obviously didnt get the email that did the rounds last year when Geelongs scandal was kept very hush hush.

And yes, when you hear the "waaaaaa" and the following repercussions, it will more than rival West Coasts saga ;)

It's no secret that there are more than a handful of players in the AFL that love a few lines/pills. Don't listen to a troll on bay13 though... Eagles are just trying to get the fingers pointing elsewhere.

after the hype of last year and how we were touted as premiership "possibles" and the resulting downfall which as it turns out was always going to happen..... I think 8th or 9th is a pretty good placement. Not out of contention but not in the spotlight.

Fortunately I havent read it yet. If you finish tenth moving to eighth sounds reasonable enough but my issue is these same journos...'thats right all of them'...had us higher last season with some quite substantially so.

Now stated plainly we are in better shape than last season....so I cant help but think they are having a somewhat lavish handle of themselves.

Are we actually in better shape than last season though?

So did Tony Shaw on 3AW... and then proceeded to put Essendon in the top 8!!! But I agree, much rather start off the season under rated and 'under the radar'. Seems to work pretty well for Geelong.

Btw.. Does anyone happen to know where Dermott put us this year??

All I know is Dermie didnt put us in the top 8, but didnt put us as winning the wooden spoon either, so somewhere between 9th and 15th.

Interesting - I honestly have no idea how someone can have Essendon in the top right. Ludicrous.

I presume he is referring to the email suggesting that Bomber had a daliance with a certain player's girlfiend. However it really needs to be stressed that it really was just a rumour and that no player's partners were involved.

Are we actually in better shape than last season though?

Well I guess its all opinion based right now. My main point was the journos using lots of words and saying little.

In better shape? I think so. Our fitness has been geared for the modern game, last season it wasnt. We have recruited really well in the last few years and it will start to show this season. Guys like Stokes, Selwood, Djerrkura and Varcoe will have an impact for us this year in an area that is vital and was lacking ie running, chasing and defensive pressure. Prismall, Mackie and hopefully Tenace could all be big factors for us as coming of age. The overall age of our group is pretty much cherry ripe this year...I still felt we were a tad young last year. The hope some key guys on our list with all the scrutiny from the review will finally grow up.

These are a few points that readily come to mind...you can counter argue them also. Its just the way I am seeing it right now.

Your thoughts?

Very much the way I see it aswell. We also have Gamble, Hawkins, Owen, West and Blake to all blossom over the next couple of years. Which will make us a very solid team this year and in the coming years.

Vossy had us in his top 4, his opinion is more valid than the hack reporters that write off our chances.

Well we totally underperformed last year, so many are going to write us off, or at least be a little cautious.

I'd say we will fit in a little higher than 8th, it does seem that our fitness has improved somewhat, some of the guys look a lot better, Kelly looked ominous before his incident. I'd say he is in for a big year.

Otto also looks quite fit and just man handles everyone out of the way, so he looks the goods also. Mooney is just roaring, and without Chapman and Gary to help him out too.

So we seem to be in a better spot than last year. Our expectations were raised slightly due to the NAB cup win, which was fair to say, but the guys believed in the hype and lost focus on the easy stuff.

Plus the thing to remember here, is it is Robert Walls. He is a total tool, when was the last time he did anything big in footy ??

We will be better than 8th.

I didnt know he had done that...and yeah agree his opinion speaks volumes over football people whose involvement in the sport ended over a decade ago.

Quite honestly, when has anyone cared what Robert Walls and the Swinger Connolly say. Robert Walls wrote an article...... rating 8 champion players who could be retiring....... most pointless article I have ever seen quite honestly.....

Spot on. I remember seeing a thread on the main board asking which of the bottom 8 could possibly jump into the top 4. I was thinking the answer to that could well be whoever Walls picks for the spoon. IIRC, he tipped us for the spoon in 2004, and Adelaide for the spoon in 2005, and both teams finished top 4.

Essendon are in my top 8.

Also read that Shannon Byrnes was our rep. as one to look out for in 2007  and Rooke will be good in our backline.

So i didn't really think much of it.

Could somebody post the ladders published so i can see who had who where?

Cheers if you do.
