If the Whelan bump is illegal, that's the end of our game. People will start to drop off fast.

the umpiring was just shocking last night. Now I keep waiting for the whistle to blow everytime someone touches each other. The contest has gone out of the game. The contest and the physicality was what made the game so great.

Now it's a lame version of how great it was. The 80's and 90's was some of the greatest footy ever...the 70's, 60's fabulous.

Bring back those great days, and stop tinkering with the rules making it a pansy's game.

You can tell the players are frustrated. They are horrified what's happened to the game. This is not the game they were brought up to love.

And last night's crowd was small, and totally disinterested, making no noise. They were numb.

Our great game has become crappy basketball and I can't watch this ****.

Didn't exactly see much of the (it was over by the time it started on FTA here, and I was tired) so can't really judge on much. However, that hit on Luke Ball, IMO it looked a lot like something Jonno got suspended for a few weeks back. If this doesn't even get a look at by the tribunal, I'm going to be really annoyed.

And yeah, totally agree. It is turning into a pansy's game. I kinda wish I was old enough to have seen games before they were pansified.

Freo have got some physical players and the team is starting to play that way. If bumps like Whelan get suspensions, Freo may start to have trouble at the tribunal this year.

The modern-day game is ****, to be honest. I watched three quarters of last night's match and neither side played to win. The first half was like watching rugby, both sides moved the ball laterally as if nobody bothered about scoring. I got sick and tired of watching it so I went to bed. By the looks of things, free-flowing footy is dead. Demetriou shouldn't be the boss for much longer because he is no good for the game. Think about the fans who pay money to watch this crap. The same fans who can cost you millions of dollars, but we love the game enough to keep watching.

I agree. Watching the match last night I couldn't help thinking basketball. Just one end to the other. Melbourne score/miss Saints score/miss Melbourne score/miss and so on.

Agree Terry. As an unbiased supporter there was only three times when I got out of my seat last night:

1. Robbo's attempted hanger
2. Robbo's Goal
3. The Whelan and Ball clash.

The rest of the games was extremely ho-hum.

Well maybe if the rules where left alone for a few years we wouldnt be having this conversation.Even when the saints hit the post the first time in the first quarter(Think it was gehrig) You could see the players react like it was still in play, leave the game alone and let the players umpires and supporters enjoy it.

Atleast our game is tough and the boys know how to throw a good punch, I'm sure will entertain you to the bone ,there's no room for siccys in Rugby league, like ...

Yeah and bring back the FJ Holden, S Series Valiant and XK Falcon.... I don't wanna drive with pansy Airbags, Air/Cond, Cloth Bucket seats, and all the other mod cons. Only Pansies drive these plastic cars that save lives.

But when the afl, umpires and committees have turned our great game into a joke, there's no other option.

the low point of the night was when Gehrig was given a 50 mtr penalty late in the game for a gimme goal in front for umpire "abuse" by Melb. players (I think it was Yze). Even the commentators were miffed.
