This weeks Inside Football has this as Port Adelaides "Best 22". Bear in mind they left Steve Johnson out of Geelongs best 22 last week so take it with a grain of salt...

B: Surjan Carlile Chaplin
HB: Salopek Trengove Jacobs
C: Boak K.Cornes Pearce
HF: Gray D.Stewart D.Motlop
F: Ebert Schulz Hitchcock
Rucks: Brogan Cassisi Rodan
Int: J.Westhoff Hartlett P.Stewart C.Cornes

Wouldn't be the same as my best 22 but then I watch Port....
There isn't a heap of quality media in Australia when it comes to football is there. Most of the people who classify themselves as football journalists or mediots would be better served writing recipes for Woman's Weekly.

There's a horrible dysfunction when it comes to football analysis and critical thinking from journalists/reporters in this country. Why is it so difficult to put a power of research into an item then write your story.

Sorry to intrude. Can't agree more on the quality of media in Australia. AFL is the biggest sport in a country that is sports mad.......yet the journo's are crap as a rule.

The pregame analysis shows that the NFL and NHL put out over here are fantastic. From about 11am Sunday right up until kickoff at 2pm there are 3 or 4 channels talking about the upcoming games, tactics and key players.

Never, ever, ever would the Monday Night Football game be on a delayed telecast either. Can't believe 7 and the AFL (for letting it get this ******ed) at the moment.

Good luck in round 1. I think it sux that you have GWS for the final hitout before the start of the H&A season. Hopefully I will get the game over here.

Wa amd Mwalker, what I can't believe is the bias to Melbourne. I understand the bulk of the market is Victorian but how insecure do they think their viewers are! Most games are commentated with a Victorian slant, even when the Vic team plays away interstate.

Bias draws

Poor journalism

The AFL makes a mockery of equity really and the media clearly follows.

Hence the reason I don't watch Friday night footy unless Port is playing out of protest.

For the biggest sport in Australia there is a lot of professionalism lacking outside of the core product (i.e all the leeches that attach themselves to the product of football).

I agree with you mwalker, other nations in the world are far more advanced in their coverage of their sports than Australia is regarding AFL. You get a feeling these journalists don't truly understand the game, systems, structures, processes etc which is evident in their crayon scribbling.

I mean honestly, have a look at the Dream Team precis for each side. They are abysmal and I wouldn't hire the writer for a Community Gazette if he offered to write for free. In fact I'd probably burn the resume and ask for a priest to perform an exorcism on the document.

The football commentators, well let's not even bother with that useless collection of old boys. I honestly believe there's people out there who have better football acumen than most of the people involved in its broadcast today.

Thanks for your refreshing contribution (and hopefully we smack you come round 1) ;).

Re: Round 1 team - 2011

The biggest issue is we lack a national media. We may be a national competition but coverage is very much state by state. This pretty much leads to journalist and the like only needing to know their states teams and nothing else. It leads to mediocre coverage, basic homerism, even in a two team town no less, and no real need to improve as the market is cornered.

I love the NFL intro for Sunday Night and whilst this is not the best example they always change the song slightly for the matchups each week. In 2009 they would even change the verses to match the players for each game which I thought was great.

Of course I am not a fan of Faith Hill or country music but the idea is much better than what I see from 7, 9 or 10. I can't believe most of the journalism comes from Hutchy Caro Robbo and Mike and 90% of what they say is speculation and "unnamed sources" which by now we all know means you are guessing at best.

I am not up to date with all the new shows (esp on the new channels) but why do all the "footy shows" revolve around comedy or comedians. Get some serious people out there giving me the great coaching moves of the week. Or how a team beat the press. Over here during the NFL season there are atleast 6 or 7 different analysis shows for the NFL and NHL each week.

But to stay on topic, I see you have decided it best to pull out of the GWS game (the afl need to be held accountable for this I believe...putting marketing ahead of match preparation for the season is disgraceful) which is probably a good thing.

BTW which one of you put the hex on the crows...could the Hawthorne game gone any worse for them?

If I put a day aside and I could write up a better one. I wonder how much 'Dr. Dream Team' gets paid?

I couldn't believe that Andrew Capel wrote in today's footy season liftout that it was time John Butcher stood up in attack for the Power as a second year first round draft pick (and replacement for Warren Tredrea). Does he have any idea?

It's this sort of stuff that shits me.

I've already read stuff on the Port Facebook from seemingly younger supporters saying things like "Butcher's useless, he can't even get a game for Port Magpies".

Impressionable minds - both young and old - keep plungers like Capel in a job for a reason.

The last thing the kid needs is even more pressure, real or imagined.

I assume that lift out is the one that I got in the Daily Telegraph in Sydney yesterday just that ours has more of a Swans slant. I actually kept last years to compare the journos predictions for the year and whilst predictions have many variables they were not even close and as usual each individual journo's heart ruled their head.

1 correctly predicted Collingwood as premiers - Jackie Epstein
1 correctly predicted Judd as Brownlow Medalist - Tim Morrissey

I don't even know who those 2 people are?

I hate the fact we all know exactly who the journos barrack for and they do nothing to conceal it through their writing.

Just a little professionalism is all I ask....

Just a little professionalism is all I ask....

My ultimate pet hate are the media personalities who state they haven't seen much of this team or a certain player.

If people are paid in the media to give opinions on footy they can at least watch every game so their opinion can be informed.

Well it's happened again tonight and much like the bloke who went to the fancy dress party naked with his genitals in a bowl of custard I am ****ing discustard.

Mark Maclure on AFL 360 and then Brad Johnson on league teams referred to our budding star Travis Bock. ****s sake. Johnno the twit went on to say how our 9 man leadership group were all under 25 years old including Dom and Broges which I am sure they were happy to hear.

They waffled on about Collingwood for a while and then wrote us off, except Johnno who said our leadership group would drag the rest of the players along, and then laughed all the way through their tips.

Parkin did say that he met with the person who coaches our leadership group at the airport and he conveyed that they were the hungriest group he had ever worked with.

A bit of research wouldn't hurt these blokes.

This is the stuff that shits me to no end, really it isn't that hard to be professional

...even better when we have success - like 2004 when everyone had written us off - some downright scathing eg Sam and Walls.

One good point was that in the telecast Mick Malthouse liked our chances :thumbsu: ... then he isnt a journo, is he?

Re: PAFC Set to Soar

Don't watch the ****ing footy show then.

You know what to expect. Watching it endorses it.

If not watching/listening to media that didn't give us a fair shake was the answer I'd be resorting to getting my Port news via carrier pigeon.

Re: PAFC Set to Soar

There's a difference between `a fair shake' and the Footy Show. `Five double crow' acknowledges that Port exists, even when its negative. There's the Port website. There's AdelaideNow.

Expecting Port to rate even a mention on The Footy Show (which is basically the #1 source of Victorian propaganda on a national basis) is just a worthless pastime. We are #17 of 17.

In theory, we merit three minutes of exclusive coverage in a 54 minute program...when is the last time Port took up 5% of The Footy Show?

2004 + 2007 GF footy shows.

That is all

Re: PAFC Set to Soar

Lol, Luke Ball plugged Collingwood's ball sponsor for 2011... and back to St. Kilda.

Hitaf, Bucky, someone?

It helped that up until Eddie was appointed CEO of Ch 9 and moved to Sydney in early 2006, the executive producer of the show was Cos Cardone, a big Port fan. Eddie took Cos to Sydney to become his head of 9's light entertainment division. I suspect there was a direct line between Hitaf and Cos.

I reckon prior to Cos leaving we got a pretty good run on TFS. It helped that for the period Cos was EP, that Port were first the new boys then one of the dominate sides.

We need our mystery communications manager to get into Brayshaw's ear. At least he knows about us, having lived in SA for a decade or so and understands our plight, being the prez of a club in a similar situation.

When was the last time TFS ran 54 minutes? It always goes way overtime. They stopped advertising it as a 1 hour show a decade ago. Now its a 90 minute show that goes about 110.

The problem is.... i think this is our mystery communications manager

Re: PAFC Set to Soar

im surprised anyone actually thought we'd even get a mention

a) we arent Victorian
b) we arent a new franchise about to start in the AFL
c) they dont give a shit

this is why i never watch the footy show

The footy what? I did consider whilst watching AFL 360 and went narr I'll pass lol
