DESPITE not playing finals football for seven years, Carlton yesterday scooped its rivals again, with young Docker Robert Warnock nominating the Blues as his new club of choice.
Warnock's preference should result in another big signing by Carlton, which last year headed off a host of clubs to secure prize recruit Chris Judd from West Coast.
Melbourne and Richmond are likely to miss out on Warnock after the 21-year-old's manager, Colin Young, yesterday informed Carlton general manager of football operations Steven Icke that his client had chosen the Blues.
Carlton chief executive Greg Swann confirmed that Carlton had won the race to attract Warnock, who at 206cm tall, will be the club's No1 ruckman next year.

Looks like we miss out on Warnock and I'll be disappointed if the Blues land him for pick 24 only. See below:

One scenario could be a three-way deal involving Adelaide.
It is understood Crows ruckman Jonathon Griffin is keen to return home to Western Australia and he could be traded to the Dockers.
As part of that arrangement, Fremantle would pass on Warnock to Carlton, which in turn would have to satisfy Adelaide, possibly with its first selection in the second round of the national draft, overall pick No24.

That would also rule us out in chasing Griffin, especially if he wants to go west.

there might be a bit to play out just yet, I reckon we may have put a player on the table such as Polo + a draft pick, will depend on how generous carlton are ..I'm not too fussed, Ive mentioned a number of times , would much prefer we held our nerve and invested in draft pix than take the plan off the rails...an 8 possie a game ruckman is someone half as good as Patto...Not sure I wanna derail our plans for that

I'm stumped on what we should do trade week/draft. On one hand, I want another ruckman because we really do need to develop another one NOW, but on the other hand, I don't want to overpay for someone such as a Warnock, and I don't want to draft one with our first pick.

I agree.Go hard for Kerr now.& why the hell would Marnock choose a club where in 2 yrs he will again be 2nd fiddle behind Kruezer like he was behind Sandilands

I am stoked to hear Griffen wants to head west that is good news and well did we want to pay a bloke 1 mil over 3 years? Dont think so, btw to those bashing Carlton they free up some space in there cap this season for various reasons. Ackland was on 300k he will be gone and Judd was on a front loaded contract so his pay will drop this year.

Suddenly they have to get rid of good kids to pay inflated salaries, then Judd's shoulders go, and they get done for salary cap cheating and lose draft picks and they're back at the bottom for another eight years.

Meanwhile Patto carries us to our 3rd successive flag, rucking tirelessly all around the ground.

Alright, the last bit might not happen but the rest isn't far away.

Don't forget Hampson.

I doubt Hampson will care to much tbh. He is certainly in their plans as he was a QLD boy they always seem to take a while longer. Kreuzer will now be developed as a true CHF type whilst Warnock will take the ruck. His partner will be Cloke for a while however no doubting they will phase him out next season and bring the younger Hampson in.

they must do everything they can to get either griffin or warnock. they need a ruck who can at least win 20-30% of the tap outs. simmo try hard but they just can only get about 20% taps (more on a good day) while patto try hard but he is a terrible ruck and just cant win anything. the problem with patto is he just cant out jump or isnt big or strong enough to out body, which is why graham should be given a go.

If we recruit a good ruckman in the 2008 draft we'll be set:

2009 + 2010 = Simmonds with Patto backup
2011 - Patto with 3rd year draft pick (Vickery?) backup, or Graham
2012 onwards = 4th year ruckman (Vickery?) with Patto backup, Graham possible.

Personally I'd be happy to just chuck Pattison in the ruck. It doesn't make much difference whether we get the hitout or not, it's what he does around the ground that's important.

Our list is better with Pattison + Polo + Pick 26 >>>>>>>>> Warnock

Mate - that would be the ultimate but will not happen. More like they will build such an awesome list that at the time our 'premiership window' is open they will be our main roadblock (with Hawthorn).

I freely admit that i am jealous of how ruthlessly their administration has gone about building a flag contender - i look at them and compare to our mob of infighting w***ers and its depressing

If anybody actually watches WAFL they would realise how seriously over rated he is, he got toweled up by Daniel Bandy FFS and is lucky to be top 6 in the WAFL.
All he has is height, Carlton are free to have him and pay him way over the odds

And as for Carlton.
1 gun midfielder, 1 gun forward and 3 promising youngsters doesn't put them ahead of us, their drafting outside the gimmes at pick 1 have been very average at best. And on all 3 occasions they still missed the best player.
