Forward or Defence...which is the biggest worry at the moment?

Last week both were very ordinary. About six weeks ago we said the defence was holding up nicely and our forward line were doing the job.

With the defence, we have seen one player from opposition clubs get under our guard over the last few games. Croad & Kingsley have now kicked a bag of goals against us. We are perhaps one tall short down there.

However, I think our forward line is the biggest concern at the moment. Neita is struggling again, while smaller players like Brad Green and Russell Robertson have been very quiet. We are now relying too heavily on our midfield to kick goals.

What is more worrying to you...the forward line or defence? If you could add one tall player to the list tomorrow what position would he fill?

They have both been as bad as each other the last few weeks. But the backline makes me more nervous. I just don't have any confidence in them. Last week was just a joke. It looks better with Neitz down there but it is pointless if he is only going to play there in only one quarter etc.
Mind you the forward line has to lift its game as well. Green, Robbo, Neitz all have to fire.

i agree with all of that. we have a very strong midfeild, and we have quite a few too many of them atm, so perhaps doing a bit of trainins for CHB wouldn't be such a bad idea?? just an idea...

in answer to your question footyman, id want i tall defender that can take a strong mark and keep his oponent away from the ball. max hugton (apart from being a small defender) is very good at keeping his player from going near the ball, and he takes very good marks and tackels quite well. however, if he was taller and more solid, then he'd be the one id want on our team.

matty whelan, when in form, is an AMAZING defender, so i just hope he, aswell as ALL our forwards can really fire this weekend!

The whole side has to lift!

Our forward line stinks. It's basically because we fall down across half forward. Schwarz just aint doing it anymore. Maybe we could move Neitz out to CHF and someone like Vardy or even Bizzell to FF. Neitz can bloody well mark the ball, and having someone take those marks at CHF would do us the world of good.

Our backline wasn't good last week due to the ball being banged in there far too often. Ellis is doing okay, Nicho is just having a rough patch. He should get Rocca this week. I'd also maybe like to see Broady get Tarrant. I think he can do the job, and it frees up someone like Bizzell to go forward if needed.

Green should be dropped, Robbo get's one more chance. I don't care how good they can be, they have to perform and NOW or else they deserve to be dropped.

And has anyone seen Lamb's form the last few weeks?? He has been in the best each time....maybe we should give him a run??

I disagree CFH - David Neitz is not marking the footy at the moment. How many times does it slip through his handswhen he's playing up forward? Plenty. He really has a bad case of butterfingers again.

I saw Chris Lamb play for Sandy on Sunday. He was playing on David Mensch. On his form in that game, and the games from a couple of weeks before it, he deserves to be included in the side for Monday. If he isn't then basically the club are saying Chris Lamb has no future at the Melbourne FC.

My apologies footyman, There was meant to be an IF infront of the Neitz part. He can't hold them at all at the moment, I agree!

Regardless of whether he can hold them or not, he gives our midfielders a big forward option they can look for which is invaluable. Even if he's not playing well, he'll still take their best and probably 2nd best defender at once which leaves Green, Vardy, Robertson, Bruce, Bizzell, (Nicholson;)), etc with lesser opponents.

I would hate to see the stats of goals for/goals against since moving Nietz to the backline at 3/4 time of the Roos match.
