How good it is to have that forward line. The pressure from the forwards tonight was fantastic and there was periods of the game where I swear it was in our half for 10mins at a time.

Although we probably should have kicked about 6 more goals it was still great to see that pressure back.

Geez Ballantyne and Mayne are bloody important players and de Boer was great tonight too.

Agreed Scopey it was a major element of our win.

I think Mayne and Balla are going to be a lot better for the run too, if we had lost tonight our lack of accuracy and turnovers would of been a dagger.

Mayne is so important. Always manages to half the one on one and bring the ball to ground and hold it in.
The boys were hunting in packs again tonight, it was so good to see.

Absolutely agree, they make a MASSIVE difference. I look forward to next week, it's so great to see both of those boys back together at last. They'll thrive on the finals atmosphere.

I agree Silver but what I will say is that Hase is a real weak link in the forward pressure respect.

Gibbs had a field day on him and poor De Boer kept having to go to Gibbs which then left Russell to wreak havoc loose. It's very obvious that the opposition look to expose Hase in this way at every opportunity.

If Hase isn't taking grabs and kicking goals it hurts the team because his opponent becomes the attacking defender and he gets slaughtered on the rebound.

Having said that, Walters still needs work in this area too and Des is just the same so the options are slim. If Palmer could get his game right then Fyfe would be released and be the one to fill the role IMO.

I agree which is why I kind of had the walters/hasleby there. His hands are great but when the ball hits the ground he just isn't quick enough to go with the running rebound players.

Good thread silverscope, and I completely agree.

It's interesting that people are mentioning Walters lack of defensive pressure, in spite of his scoreboard pressure. I recall people calling for De Boer to be dropped in favour of someone who could kick goals because "a forward's meant to do that". From where I'm sitting, De Boer is more important to the team's structures than anyone who'd come in and contribute two extra goals a game of their own boot. That's not to say Sonny isn't valuable himself.

It's been interesting to watch De Boer's development curve. That goal from 45 out would have been one he'd miss badly earlier in the year. If it continues as it has been, he'll be a very important player for us.

Also enjoyed seeing all his teammates giving him a gee up for that goal. He's highly respected around the club.

Would love another power forward in there somewhere, but we look a lot better with Mayne back as another marking option

Thought Mayne was awesome. He has his mojo back, and his forward pressure was excellent considering he has been out so long.

Sure hope he doesn't have any more of those 3 week injuries, they seem to drag on forever.
