I've been doing some thinking and who would like this structure up forward?:
---------------------------------Centre Square---------------------------
Lucas--------------------------------Lloyd-------------------------Neagle
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------Forward Fifty----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monfries------------------------------------------------------------Jetta
------------------------------------Gumby-------------------------------
--------------------------------Ten Yard Box-----------------------------

With that structure we have Bucket Loads of space out in front of Gumby, and we have three of our longest kicks outside the fifty so they can't drop back to protect space

Too tall.

Davey--------------------Monfries
---------------------------------
--McPhee---------------Lloyd----
---------------------------------
-------------Lucas--------------
---------------------------------
--------Gumbleton/Neagle--------

Reimers-Fletcher-Slattery
Houli-Ryder-Lucas
Myers-Lonergan-Welsh
Monfries-Gumbleton-Davey
Neagle-Lloyd-Jetta

Hille-McVeigh-Watson

INT: Laycock, McPhee, Dempsey, Stanton, Pears, Winderlich

Bold: Forwards

If Gumleton, Neagle, Lloyd and Lucas are all fit then Lucas needs to play in the backline or one of Lucas or Gumbleton need to play on the wing in a Richardson-type role.

What if we were to go tall and stretch the defenders most likely wouldn't happe due to us needing Ryder and maybe Gumbleton in defence but it would look dangerous something like this: HF: Lucas Gumbleton Lloyd FF: Ryder Neagle Hille

No chance I wouldn't think.
We'd be destroyed once the ball hit the ground.

i dont think neagle and gumbleton will be played in the same team along with lloyd and lucas. 3 out of the 4 would be ideal. all of them can play around the 50m line or from the square. small fwds= monfries, jetta, davey. can rotate lonergan, welsh, winda and reimers up fwd with effect too

WTF
This changes every 5 minutes anyway

Watch when at the game, for 1 bounce it'll be Lloydy at FF & Monfries on the flank, next stoppage they'll rotate around & Watson will be deep at FF & Lloydy up near the wing with Laycock in the pocket etc
There are not many players who keep 1 position all game long these days. Even Buddy & Fev - the dominant & most-kicked-to forwards get pushed up on the wing, half forward

What I do want to see is Neagle playing & presenting more often. We look more dangerous with him in. No need to push Gumby in ahead of his time. & Davey back in the side - our single most important forward IMO

Just as an aside - even the much maligned Laycock - for all his failings (mainly in the ruck) - is a handy forward option

I reaken it'd be worth giving Gumby the whole square next season...

Gumby has all the attributes as of Buddy franklin... Getting him familier with kicking goals will be a good start.

they'll ply neagle at ff, its his natural position. lucas can play a richo like role and will be gven a free roaming license. lloyd will rotate with gumby between chf and forward 50. davey to provide crumbing skills alongside monfries who can also play lead up. Mcphee to go to a wing. jetta-mcveigh-reimers and others to play resting crumber/hf flanker.

lloyd/essendon was at his most dangerous when he/we had at least one other foil in the side.

Two arms, two legs, one nose each.... it's uncanny

elusivemid - Don't quite think Scotty's going to be playing on the wing next year. 3 reasons - 1st, his skills on the ground are worse than any of our other tall forwards; 2nd, we need him deep with Neagle to kick goals; 3rd, he has about half the tank Richo does

Top post EM.... I like the idea of giving Scotty room to roam. Of course, it can be argued that he is most dangerous around the 50 given his kicking ability. Perhaps even Llyod is best suited to this position.

I do agree though the Neagle's best and probably only position at this point is FF. We need to get games into Gumby and I would love to see him at CHF. Scotty or Llyod would be very difficult match ups up the ground, given the CHB would be playing on Gumby.

I think it should be a big objective to get Neagle and Gumby out on the park together... the more these two play together the better for us. They are the future of our goal scoring power for the next 10 years, they need time to gel together and the more time as early as possible the better.

Roughy/Buddy
Brown/Bradshaw

most great teams have a great CHF/FF combination and ours has great potential but they need to play alot of footy together first.

Gumby is nothing like buddy.

Gumby is like Riewoldt

couple suggested that neagle & gumbleton wont/shouldnt play in the same side

would have thought thats exactly what they should do & do asap

the biggest 'loss' in '08 was that a lot of these younger players didnt get the playing time as a group, something that must be turned around in '09, else were in for a long return to form

Gumby: 197cm, 95kgs...
Buddy: 196, 100kgs...

Gumby has the same components (Body Structure) as Buddy does.

(To be more specific for ya)

Just because they are the same height/weight doesn't mean they play the same way.

Gumby plays a lot more up the ground then Buddy. Buddy is great when the ball hits the floor, is quicker then Gumby and has a longer kick.

Components/Structure!!!

I never said anything about the way they play, nor do I give a crap.

FFS... I thought the second post would've explained it by now.

Play Gumby on the wing to be that link up player we desperately need, anyone else notice how badly we struggle getting out of defensive fifty.

Once Dempsey and Winderlich start to pull off their bandages we'll finally get that run off down back in which we lost for the huge majority of this season.

I dunno if Gumby's the answer though, in your case...

I have no clue if the guy can even run, let alone take a mark, from the 5 games I've seen him play.

Lets just imagine that Gumby and Jay can actually get on the park, and if we imagine that Lucas and Lloyd stay fit then we certainly have some structual issues. Clearly we cant play the 4 and Mcphee in the forward line, that leaves us IMO 2 options.

Play Lloyd in the Richo role
Gumby, Lucas rotate through CHF and FP
Neagle FF
Mcphee Hff
2 of Davey/Jetta/Monfries at their feet

or

Play Mcphee up the ground - HBF/Wing
Play Lloyd in the hit up CHF
Play 2 of Neagle/Gumby/Lucas FF/FP rotating with Lloyd
Always have one on the bench

Still I dont think we can play 4 marking forwards we would just be too slow and not put enough pressure on the ball coming out. Although if Knights is pretty keen to keep Mcphee on the HFF line (and i think he is) he may have to play Gumby down back.

It will certainly be interesting and a great problem to have!

Hmmm..."all the attributes...." Excellent assessment for the entire 5 minutes he has played for the bombers. Some people are so delusional.

BTW I looked up familier and it wasn't in the dictonary? Unless familier is latin for "has done nothing so far but may some day"

It's Latin for better than Reid, Rusling and Rocca:p
