Does anyone find this cartoon funny? Personally I think it's the biggest load of horshradish I've ever seen, and it baffles me how he seems to be one of the most popular cartoon strips.

For example, Fred will walk into a room to see someone watching TV, and go "This always happens walk time" - where the hell is the humour in that??? And they are usually worse than that!!

One of my mates has a rather amusing theory - every day there is a killer punchline, but the last panel of the strip is cut off!! :p Half the time it's exactly what it seems like.

So am I on my own, or do others think Fred Basset is a waste of space?

Well it's clearly not witty, it's just a cute dog that thinks, I guess thats what makes it funny to people. I personally don't find it funny but I can see how some people could.

Give me Garfield and that devlish Andy Capp anyday

Bob Morrisson was a cute dog that could think, he didn't seem to go down too well.

I challenge someone to find 2 or more Fred Basset strips that are genuinely amusing.

It is the biggest load of crap in the Herald-Sun (saying a lot ;)). I tried to find the writer's name today but couldn't

Comics order.....
1. Robotman
2. Ernie
3. Garfield
4. Snake Tails
5. Hagar
6. Between Friends
7. Blondie
8. Fred Basset

I was really disappointed when I moved to Melbourne and saw the comics on offer in the Herald Sun. Garfield is the only one I read.

Looking forward to getting back to The Advertiser (even if it is still suffering it's broadsheet-in-a-tabloid-format identity crisis).

Favourites:

Calvin & Hobbes
The Far Side
Garfield
Peanuts
Andy Capp

The only thing in the world more unfunny than Fred Basset is Seindude.

Its just not funny!
I tried to explain this to my Grandma: she laughed at the 'joke'

My Grandma likes it, enough said!

Oh, just on Robotman, that comic with Chimpy and the Barrel is one of the funniest comics i have ever seen!
"You know, they're wrong. I can think of a lot of things more fun."

I've done it.

Mind you, it would have taken me about 10 years of reading the daily strips to find them both.

When I was a kid I bought a Fred Bassett strip book. I don't reckon I laughed at any of the strips. What a waste of my hard earned 50 cents!

There used to a worse one in the Herald_sun, bottom left corner, had penguins in it.

My rankings

Quizmaster, it's on the same page, always seem to score 19 pts, 1 off quizmaster contender, 21 today, all time record 34.

The good ones

2. Robotman, where is he?
3. Ernie, guarantee the last panel is in a bar.
4. Garfield

and then the rest

Blondie
Snake Tales
Hagar
Between Friends (aimed at the 30+ womens market?)
Fred Bassett (either Grandmothers or 2 year old kids?)

High Tide.

2. Robotman, where is he?

He stayed on another planet with William Shatner to be with his Robot wife. :)

I know too much on this topic.

Fred Basset's a terrible excuse for a comic. Never ever had even a chuckle at it, yet still read it every day in the hope that there will be a funny one someday.
Robotman and Ernie are the 2 that I instantly read whenever I turn to that page, then just go through the rest in order.
One of the comics that I miss is Footrot Flats though, used to love that.
And getting back to Robotman, it's still weird how he went it's about him, but he's on another planet with his female robot....wonder if he shall return one day.:)

Did anyone see today's rubbish?

It has Fred and another Basset hiding behind a tree and poking their heads out either side, with the punchline "this is our favourite trick you know"

Surely there is a law against people earning money for that.

I forgot to say my favourites are:

1. Robotman (although it's a bit like Hey Dad now, the character is no longer in it!)

2. Ernie

3. Hagar

Honourable mention to Snake Tales.

I'm sure public opinion got rid of high tide, made Bassett look good though.

Incidentally I did 2 strips that I left out for the Mrs the night before Easter that have amused all who have seen them. I'll see if I can upload. (comic strips for those with a dirty mind)
