It absolutely sickens me how TV channels are now emphasizing that their coverage is "free" Like it's suppose to be some kind of feature.
I think this is wrong, completely wrong, it's like because it's free, we should just accept it's shitness.

Example

This year's grand final. Channel seven have been emphasizing it's "live" and it's "free" and they can't even broadcast the game in high definition!!!! Using the same format that they've been using for the past 20 years!!!!

Let's also not forget how they've dropped the ball on HD programming along with the other channels!

As consumers who watch this shit, we should not have to put up with it, it's prehistoric and backward.

"Made in Melbourne" is another one that grinds my gears.

That's fine to say if you're seeing views of Melbourne [i.e Neighbours],but when it's just a show filmed in a studio [i.e Family Feud,Deal or No Deal,Dancing with D Grade Stars] it could be filmed in a studio in Tasmania and nobody would know the difference.

But it's the feelgood thing of knowing that the production hired locals and pumped money into your economy. I'm guessing it also makes other production companies wonder what sort of a good deal they could get if they filmed in Melbourne.

All these taglines are more about the business model than the programs themselves.

there is some form of government legislation that prevents free to air networks showing stuff in HD

Why on earth would there be? And if there is, why is there?

I'm not one of those that whinges about SD (I still remember battling just to get any sort of picture from an indoor aerial as a kid), but just seems weird why it's still such a big issue.
