Just watching the WAFL prelim and I am very much liking the look of Dennis-Laine from Subi. Would love to see him at the dockers next year - I can see him slotting straight in to the forwardline - very much an improvement on the Murphy/Campbell 2nd tall option we have had to rely on for so long.

i agree that now is the best time to trade tarrant. he wants to go home, let him go and get a draft pick out of it. freo need a full back who's going to be there for the next three or four years, not someone with doubts over their future at the club.

and i'd love it if we can get tom scully to get into the midfield. he's quick, has great hands, great evasive skills, great vision, can kick straight on the run and is a ball winner. he's like the love child of ben cousins and paul kelly. maybe that's crazy talk, but he looks the goods.

IMO the following factors will come into play:'
a. Moribito will be gone by pick 3
b. Harvey has said they will go tall this draft
c. Drum will get a third round pick
d. Peake will get a 4th rounder

I see our draft panning out like this.

4. Aaron Black - Freo to pull another rabbit out this year. Need KPP
20 Lewis Jetta - will be happy also with Sheppard or Duncan
36 Joel Houghton - need kpp
pick for Drum - Nicholas Winmar - 190cm mid - could be anything
52 Stratton - med defender
Pick for Peake - Luff KPD
68 Shaun Hildebrandt - mature age - keen to follow up Broughton experiment.

rookie list Dennis-Lane mature forward and ruck prospect like Daw or Polenz-

By 2012 this would see us with a potential midfield of Palmer, Hill, Suban, Jetta, DeBoer, Hall, Ibbotson, Ruffles and Hildebrandt

A forward line of Pav, Black, Balla, Mayne, Sibosado, Walters and Dennis-Lane

A backine of Pearce, Broughton, Luff, Stratton, Duffield, Houghton and Johnson

Together with a ruck of Clarke and Sandi and swingmen McPharlin, Winmar and Bucovaz this is a more than reasonable bunch a talent and potentional IMO.

Interesting thoughts Gerbil King. I like people who think a bit outside the square and just dont post the same or similar to everyone else. You must really rate Black to put him that high. I reckon we desperately need kpp so will be interesting to see which ones we draft.
Hildebrandt I think is 25 or 26 (I do stand to be corrected) and I think he just might have missed the boat. He is a very good WAFL player but to me is a bit of a down hill skier from watching him at WAFL level for the last 7 or 8 years.

haha understatement of the year - how the hell are freo gonna pry pick 1 from Melb lol

Aaron black at pick 4? Talia would be a good pick at pick four and then Aaron black in the second round perhaps.

Or, if we were almost certain Scully/Trengove/Morabito would go top 3 and Aaron Black was our next choice, we could trade down our pick 4 for pick 10ish and another reasonably high pick? A team that springs to mind would be the Bulldogs, who would use pick 4 on Butcher, but a pick between 14-17 would be a little too low to be comfortable with. I don't know how even this would be but a trade of...

Pick 4 + Marcus Drum for Pick 15 + Pick ~10*

or

Pick 4 + Chris Tarrant for Pick 15 + Pick ~10* + Pick 31

*acquired by trading say Brian Lake or someone else, I don't really know, I'm just going on what gets said around here.

But in that case, we could go something like...

Pick 10: Black
Pick 15: Duncan
Pick 20: Jetta

... with out first 3 picks, instead of Black, Jetta and whoever falls to the third round. I realise that those trades are both a bit lopsided, I'm not too sure what the Bulldogs have and how they would rate Drum/Tarrant.

Why would you trade pick 4 in this draft? Better to get one very good player than 2 average ones.

Tarrant won't be at the Bulldogs. They will only lose Lake if they can't find the money to pay him and Tarrant will be on more than Lake ends up on.

I was going on TGK's hypothetical that we would select Aaron Black at 4. Just pointing out that we could cash in on this by getting an extra first rounder as well as getting the guy we want.

Pick 4 is gold, especially in this draft ... I'm all for attaining more picks inside the 1st 2 rounds, but not using out pick 4 unless it will get us a higher pick.

If Morabito is gone at 3, then Trengrove and Butcher will be there and we will take one. We can pick Black in the second round but if we have Butcher then we should go another mid as there appears to be depth there (Jetta, Ducan etc).

I think Drum will fetch more or still may not leave.

Peake will be an add on in another trade or 4th rounder for a team only likely to use 3 picks.

We have pick 4, so if Morabito is gone by 3, meaning that he's been taken at 2 by Melbourne, then there is still Richmond to have a pick in front of us. They will almost certainly take Trengove, which leaves Butcher for us, should we choose to take him.

So lets says the draft goes Scully, Trengove, Morabito.

We'll be left with a tough decision.

Do we go with the young Victorian key position player in Butcher, or do we go for the bolter in WA key position player in Black.

This seems very similar to what happened last year with Rich and Hill.

Draft camp will be very interesting and i'll be keeping a keen eye on how Black performs.

IMO Melbourne will go Scully, Morabito, Richmond will then take Trengove.

Leaving us with one of Butcher or Black and I think if Black has a blinder at draft camp he'll be our number four pick.

Watched Trengove play last week, was very impressed .This guy will be a star.

Blake is being very overrated IMO, saw Peel Prelim Final and was completely held back - far from impressive. He had a few opponents, Busher being one of them, and couldn't get a kick!

Was the game televised?
How did you manage to watch it?
