I thought we tried to offload him last year with no takers. If Ras is out the door he might actually be required as cover so one more year is not going to break the bank. If he gets a better offer, I won't lose sleep but see no point paying out his contract when he is still AFL quality compared to who we were playing on Sunday.Does Brodie have one more year?
God I hope not
We did offer Brodie around last year but agree with Raz about to go ( wouldn’t you?) he maybe reasonable depth again. However, I actually think Murphy will be introduced into the midfield next year but have no idea for how much time.I thought we tried to offload him last year with no takers. Reid & any new draftee's probably aren't going to be seen as an option of filling the same inside mid role he can.
Our list position is interesting. As far as I can work out currently:So can someone confirm the outs from main list?
Fyfe
Walters
Aish
Brodie
Delean
Sturt? (Contracted next year but has done acl recently)
Likely enough?
Does JOM have another year left on his contract , hope not as the pace of the game has reduced his effectivenessOur list position is interesting. As far as I can work out currently:
The ins for the main list are Sharp and Voss who are both near certainties to be promoted while Draper will are upgraded.
We can delist and then rookie Sturt to create another position on the main list.
Meaning if we do what you suggest we will only have 3 main list vacancies if we keep the 2025 list structure of 6 rookies but up to 5 if we change our list structure to 4 rookies with 2-4 rookie spots.
Im not saying anything other than this is the current state of play. I think Delean will be delisted and then redrafted via the rookie draft. Erasmus may or may not leave as well.

Why are we upgrading Sharp and Voss this year, both are eligible to stay on the rookie list for another year. Our list position is interesting. As far as I can work out currently:

Sharp because he can choose to leave if he got an offer from another club this off season. I think he's worth resigning as this year he carried a lower leg injury for most of the year. Why are we upgrading Sharp and Voss this year, both are eligible to stay on the rookie list for another year.
Also think they'll be less positions on the senior list available next year tbh.Sharp because he can choose to leave if he got an offer from another club this off season. I think he's worth resigning as this year he carried a lower leg injury for most of the year.
Voss because there is far greater chance of him leaving if we had him on a rookie contract then at the end of next season he would qualify as a free agent due to how he was delisted by the Bombers. Our strongest negotiating position is now. Eg. If we up his pay significantly next year to say 550K contract and pay him around 550K a year for 4-5 years its the equivalent of 600K+ contract (over 4 years) offered by a rival club (in total payments ) next off season. At his age he is also likely to improve next year so his value has the potential to skyrocket in a years time. Getting him signed up now for an offer of 500-600K will likely be a long term bargain for Freo in my opinion.
I don't think so. Im not sure how many are aware that you can have between 4-6 rookies outside of SSP's. We had 7 rookies last year (one SSP Narkle) but we could have 4. It looks likely (provided Reidy is traded) we will be down to Dudley and Riddle on our rookie list next year with perhaps Delean being delisted and the redrafted as a rookie. Delisting Aish, Fyfe, Walters, Delean (from main lisT) + trading Brodie and delisting but then rookieing either Sturt or Macdonald while then upgrading Sharp, Voss and Draper would give us up to 6 main list positions vacant + one SSP rookie if Sturt were to delisted and redrafted. Also think they'll be less positions on the senior list available next year tbh.
Think we ideally upgrade one of Voss or Sharp this year and build the upgrade for next year into a contract extension for the other - We did something like that for Worner and Draper. I said this on the list management thread but I think this situation is why there is a delay announcing Sharp's contract extension.
Upgrading three rookies means we're starting with one extra on the senior list than we had this year before delistings and trade period. It'd most likely mean risking a Knobel situation with as many as 2-3 players.
It's worth mentioning that a player being on the rookie list does not pose any limits on how much a player can be paid. An extra year on the rookie list shouldn't be a problem.
Fully aware of all of this but the club has consistently demonstrated it has no interest in having any less than six rookies. I can't see that changing so I don't even bother pointing out that's a possibility to change.I don't think so. Im not sure how many are aware that you can have between 4-6 rookies outside of SSP's. Yep. If base contracts are 100k then that's 200k outside the cap.Teams generally avoid running with 4 rookies as you lose out on the perks of having 2 extra base contracts out of the cap
