Review Freo do the Len Hall game proud with a 3 goal win over Crom

I was lucky enough to be a part of the veterans lap of honour before the game. It's the first time in over five years I've warn my medals or done anything to do with ANZAC Day.

Freo is such a brilliant flipping club for the way they go about these things. And honestly, a huge thank you to any of you who were in the crowd and cheered as we walked past. It was so bloody spine-tingling to experience such love and respect around the whole oval.
Think I heard you on radio.
Thank you for your service.

Glad you could participate mate.

I have been to every Anzac game we have competed in and I always come away proud of our club on how they honour our service men and women.

You can see that our players also get up for it.

Hopefully we get to do it every Anzac Day now because we do it so well.

To be fair, I heard he called Mike's mother a hamster and that his father smells of elderberries. Who wouldn't hold a grudge after that
If that was Raz, guarantee this board will be in full meltdown. Johnson is massively protected here and you nuffies making these jokes is just living proof

Maybe it's less that Johnson is some sort of protected creature and more that when you have strong opinions and portray anyone else with anything different as idiots or "nuffies", you inevitably get some response.

Most of the recourse here was Johnson had a lot of flaws in his game, I was swearing at him the whole match, although on review that was more than a little harsh.
Johnson was far from a finished product though, he does have some tools that make it look like he can develop into a useful midfielder.

I find it strange that some thought that Johnnos game on the weekend was off.I thought he was well and truely in our best players.Yes he made mistakes, as most do/did.
But his physical attack at he ball and the playerwith the ball was outstanding.
As has been said, far from the finished producvt, but not far off it.
I have to say that I was also impressed by the work of Worner. I have been so so on him. But twice in the weekends game he put his body well and truely onthe line in aerial contest, and took a smashing. Just like when he was concussed early in the season.
Having Chappy back as well made life easier for the rest of the backs.
And Darcy showed just what we have missed.

I’m not sure yet, some big games coming up where experience could come in handy but he would make a very efficient sub week in week out & has the ability to impact games late as we’ve seen.

I'm yet to see much evidence of the benefits this experience of JOM's brings. It certainly isn't in calming the younger players down and guiding them to close wins because... well, you know what happens to us in close games.

His experience certainly didn't step up and help us in any of that run of do or die games at the end of last year considering he averaged around 15 mediocre touches and 0 goals during that period.

He's just an absolutely nothing player. He doesn't smash in, doesn't set the tone, he just cruises around picking up a mediocre amount of possessions that he does nothing damaging with.

We gave up virtually nothing to get him.
He is best 22 and our depth is poor.

He is a lot better recruit than the numerous players we gave up 1st and 2nd rounders to get.

He is not in our worst 10 recruits in the last 10 years.
Hogan
Lobb
Aish
Wilson
Matera
Hamling
Kersten

All these cost us picks during a rebuild and are not still in the best 23 or delisted or at a different club.

2 firsts. 4 2nds and some 3rds.

Just imagine having the picks back and using them this year.

I completely disagree that's he's best 22 (I'm sure that was obvious from my post lol).

I'm not against bargain buy veterans coming in if they're the right type of example setters. I thought Dean Solomon (and even Mark Johnson) were good examples of bash and crash previously successful vets coming in to protect and set an example for a young group.

JOM is like a rich man's version of Darcy Tucker. Cruising around at half pace, showing little physicality, and getting a few ineffectual touches while having no impact on a game. And he's had about as much career success as Tucker so I doubt he's doling out wisdom in the changerooms on what it takes to win premierships.

Could be Nicks, he is clueless to be fair
I recon it was definitely Nicks. In the 3rd Quarter, it all clicked for Johnno and he was very good. He won the ball, set-up goals and stopped the clangers, then reverted to his previous 2 quarters in the last. I'm sure Nicks was tearing his hair out at his own players and at the end of the game he just looked at the stats and thought "who the fock is that guy" so gave him some votes.

Wow! Thank you for your service!

Do you mind me asking where you served? (Sorry if disrespectful)

Thanks mate!

It's not disrespectful at all. I served in Afghan in 2012.

I was in Tarin Kowt for my last 3 months of deployment. Basically a holiday camp. Could have 2 minute showers, massive gym, lots of hard standing buildings and the mess was amazing! Waaayyyyy too many officers hanging around there for my liking though. Patrol bases/OPs/Fire bases put you in the thick of it, but it beat getting a lecture from a random captain about maintaining discipline because my side-pocket was unzipped 😅.

In fact, the first Freo game I got to watch that year was the eimination final against Geelong.

I don't get the idea that Schofield hates us at all, anyone who has listened to Back Chat knows he loves us, he likes us more than West Coast nowadays, I think his year at Peel Thunder probably helped with that.

The Pavlich discourse is funny to me, everyone here thinks he's too harsh on us yet you go on any other club's board and everyone thinks Pav is too biased TOWARDS us, they reckon he cheers for us blatantly.
I’ve chatted to him. He does like us , mainly due to his time at peel.

Johnson and Solly played the game when it was a much more violent game.
It was permitted to smash opposition players.
It is not allowed now.
Not even close to a convincing discussion re O'Meara. He has never ever been a bash and crash player even in his time at the Giants.
