There was a thread on this but that was old and the OP was ruined.

From the Pavilion is a cricket management game where you take over a club and play against other real managers, along the way buying and selling your players to try and beat your opponent.

The link will not work for some reason.
But just google From The Pavilion if you want to see what it's like.

For those who do play, who are you and what do you think??

The game has become really competitive in the last few years. I am struggling to advance in any of my 3 leagues, and I am in division 4 for T20 and One Day and 5 for Youth.

I managed to work my way do div 1 in youths, div 2 in T20 and 3 in SOD. I'm really hoping for a SOD promotion, and I'm currently undefeated in all league matches this season.

got myself a pretty decent 16yo in week 3, too... ;):thumbsu:

Lost todays Pavillion Cup by 3 wickets, got outrated by 10k. Bummer, a short run this year. At least that helps my fatigue struggles for T20 and One Dayers.

I struggle a lot, I feel, at the strategic order settings in games. Any tips from anyone?

depends wher you are going wrong, I guess. post up your latest friendly match ratings for flat/hard/slow and I'll have a look. sometimes team balance is the first thing that needs to be addressed...

Last flat friendly (in March):

Jake's 11
Batting - Top Order: 9,554
Batting - Middle Order: 6,574
Batting - Tail: 2,983
Bowling - Spin: 9,790 (6)
Fielding/Keeping: 7,524
Overall: 143,370

Is that what you want?

errr, having at least one seam bowler might hlp for a start. :p

straight away I'd say that your middle order is too weak relative to your top order. try putting your keeper at 2 or 3 ad see what happens. also, your fielding is probably going to be a fai bit lower than a lot of 140k+ teams. I'd spend a bit of time training fielding on your <24yo players.

I'm going to have a guess and say that your players are high on primary and tech but low on power, fielding and endurance. yeah?

what batting/bowling talents do your guys have that are relevant? also, you'd better include your seam ratings...

Sorry, my first T20 of the season may give you a more accurate portrayal or the ratings.

Jake's 11
Batting - Top Order: 9,441
Batting - Middle Order: 6,649
Batting - Tail: 3,254
Bowling - Seam: 8,940 (4)
Bowling - Spin: 9,662 (6)
Fielding/Keeping: 7,495
Overall: 143,471

Will try and put my keeper at 2 or 3, and stagger the strength of the batting order. Fielding will also be worked on.

Power is not bad for most players, and fitness generally is high.

The batting/bowling talents are pretty useless for most, due to guys with good talents being very expensive. Skilled batsman, gifted technique etc. are generally the only ones I have, as well as very unrelated skills to that player. One key spinner has old ball bowler.

I would guess that fielding is the biggest issue here. I rate around 140k and my fielding rating is over 9k. my youths rate 85k and my fielding is 6k. as a result, I am regularly able to beat higher rating, higher wage/experience teams and am currently undefeated for league matches this season. I put it all down to my high fielding.

the trouble with your position is that most of your players are 25+. as far as I can tell, the rate of fielding training slows very quickly once a player turns 24. the rate that fielding training slows is actually faster than the rate that primary training slows, which is why you are better off training fielding as early as possible.

last season I had nearly every player in my whole squad on fielding training for most of the season. it was the smartest move I have made in this game. I have a young squad, though. my 1st XI has an average age of about 22.5 years old.

so your position is less than ideal, but I would still be looking to spend most of your time on fielding, power and endurance training for a while...

Alright, I will work on that. I am aware that the age of my squad is an issue, but I simply don't have the money to buy good, young players. Maybe in the future I will focus on bringing down the age of my squad.

And my original question was mostly about actual game orders and strategy? Any thoughts?

I don't necessarily want to give away any of my golden tactics, but I guess studying your opposition is a big one. I think a late pitch change for home games can be important, as well.

make sure you have a gun fast bowler to take early wickets, a gun spinner to keep it tight in the middle overs, and a gun FM with high power/endurance to bowl at the death.

if you say you can't afford younger players I don't believe you. reduce academy expenditure, sell off a couple of oldies and buy 2x acc/rel 20yo's in each eos. that way you will always have a fairly young list that will be sustainable...

I'm done with the game. Had a good time while playing, but I feel I am wasting too much time on things like this, so selling all my good players, and moving on.

Yeah, On The Ball and this Formula One management game, but I am quitting them as well. Used to play Battrick, but that wasn't as good as FTP.

yeh, battrick is rubbish in comparison, I hate to say. I've recently started up a team in otb and I'm finding that to be pretty decent. loads of bugs, though...

All my good seniors are gone, finished in the last couple of days. Have like 1.5 million in the bank haha.

Tip for ontheball; go crazy on off season transfer market buys, when contracts end. You can get some crazy cheap players.

you mean the free agents? I'll bear that in mind. I've been picking up a few super cheap guys in the last couple of days. I find that late night auctions pay off well in this game as there are less people online at those times. doesn't work so well for batrick and ftp because of all the international managers...

Yeah, at the end of the season you have to resign all your players, meaning a lot of good players don't get resigned, and the free agent auctions end around the same time. I improved my team by like 10 points in forward/mid/defence by spending not even $100k at the end of the season.

Just sold like 10 of them for $800k+.

I bought an 85 kick guy for 30k the other day (bid on him many, many hours before the auction ended and was stunned when I won). according to my 'club house' summary he is currently my best player!!
