As that machiavellian Mr Squiggle often mused - It's upside down Miss Jane.

So with this quashing quip in mind, the two great S's of the Australian landscape, the Swans and Squiggle have shared the same sentiment simultaneously. Time and again when others have uttered, from the noted to the nong. Bottom 8. Top 8 has been the calling, again and again. Causing angst, arse and affront to the appointed Bigfooty Boffins and blowhards.

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a tv.

Though, for us to sup from the cup in 2012, it has to be top four for sure.
So, from where.
Can we hope for a Johnson like jump from Barry's (the other Barry) boy Tom. A Cygnet to superhero step-up, by the photogenic Parker. Or a further rise from Rohan The Redskull, who gave glimpses of greatness at Geelong. Most likely all of the above, but most definitely through a Walsh or JESSELENKO:diamond: jolt.
In Reid The Remarkable they have their Prince William to their Harry who. A FV<ken free for all should be had, knowning the paparazzo like backs will have Will, or Reid The Regal in their sights.
So if one of Walsh or JESSELENKO:diamond: be worthy, then we will be worthy.

I don't know how you come up writing they things you do but I enjoy them.

imo it has to be one of White/Walsh becoming a 40ish goal forward. Forward line looked better towards the end of the season but I can't see use being top 4 relying on Reid and a part time Goodes again.

I think it's more likely that it will happen if Reid steps up to kick around 40 goals while Walsh or White or Spangher kick around 20 individually. Then if we can around 30-40 from Goodes and decent amounts from guys like Rohan, ROK, McGlynn, Mumford, Pyke, Parker, TDL (whoever finds themselves in the forward line) we will be in good shape.

Good point, that spread of goals could work. Either way it's our forward line that needs to lift because for the majority of the season it was one of the worst in the comp.

Despite it taking more than half the year for it to happen, I loved it when we finally had a stable forward line and structure of 3 talls and 3 smalls/mediums (pretty much when Parker, Spangher and Rohan were introduced permanently to that area) and it payed off almost instantly. I just hope Longmire does something similar from round 1 this year.

It doesn't have to be the same personnel (in fact I hope it isn't to some extent), but it was that stability along with the very talented players in the forward line that helped make our late season run.

Something like this would be great:

F: Parker Walsh Pyke
HF: ROK Reid Rohan

Would love to see TDL step up and forcibly take a forward pocket spot. He can give us so much from that position if he is fit and maybe capable of pushing up onto a wing at some stages.

Thanks AG, always a corcern posting after a couple of hours out and about...with a Hawk fan known as Mr Frothy..:o

Another possible premiership push could come via a Mitch Morton metamorphosis, a natural and a nong. Hopefully the later is lost, and we will have one on our hands!
One of the closest watched this comming campaign for Fu The Fortified will be Longmire, and what role is formulated for the FF in 2012. Add to this, whether or not we turn a tad truculent in our commitment to contested football. Our glory.
In Deadly Kennedy, Parker Perfect, Jack Jnr and Mummy The Swanheart we have amongst others brand new impetus to this proven Bloods brand.

Remember my fellow swivel chair situated Swan slobs.

Contested is the action.
Glory is the word!:footy:

I do love reading your work and like your optimsim.

sadly i must take umbridge with but most definitely through a Walsh or JESSELENKO:diamond: jolt

Walsh has not played a senior game and despite the excitement is an investment in the future ahead while White????

Well unless he steps up dramatically in the NAB cup will be opening his season up in the ressies.

But certainly your point that the rebuild looks to be effective and the challenge for no 5 is on the way in the next couple of seasons, despite the misgivings of bigfooty posters.

Make sure grand final guarantees are on your memberships people.

Good stuff Fu...:thumbsu:

Yeah forward is an area we need to improve. I can see potential improvement all over and its not like we havent addressed our forward issues. I say this every year but I really am excited and confident of a good year.

Also from 'belief'.. I think we can take a bit from last year moving forward.

It's all the wine that FU drinks. Unglish is always fun to read though. I'm not sure what this topic is about even. :o :)

I just want my main man Jesse White to prove all the doubters/haters wrong in 2012 and have a breakthrough year.

Sorry Cas, Fu The Far Flung has been working way out west again FFS!

There is nowt wrong with taking umbridge, or even an umbrella John Steed style to a FU frothing. The fabric of from where, is in Fu's view, making the move from being in and about the eight, to banging on the door via the top four. How, whom and where can we bridge this gap? This must come from the unexpected in an area we lack, attack. In Walsh The Willing and JESSELENKO:diamond: we have hope. For some the hope of being de-listed, others the fulfilment of fullforward. An area of concern and critical charge if the Bloods are to bloom and bag the cup. There will need to be others, such as a further rise in Rohan The Roller if we are to match or better the Collingwoods of the comp. We need to find our Dawes, Cloke, Jolly and Brown big end of town if we are to take the crown.

Onward!

Ta bra Baja. If a type like Pyke, can fill a Leigh Brown relieving ruck roll, added to a JESSELENKO:diamond:, Walsh or Spangher surprise a FF. We will be top four for sure.:thumbsu:

Wolfie my fine four legged fellow, JESSELENKO:diamond:SUPERSTAR is the fittest he has ever been at this stage of a preseason. Bad news for some.

What level of pre-season stardom are we talking here, Ed Barlow level?

Just looking at the list and our under 65 gamers are actually quite decent:

Armstrong (14)
Bird (62)
Brown (0)
Dennis-Lane (11)
Everitt (47)
Gordon (2)
Hannebury (52)
Jetta (40)
Johnson (20)
Kennedy (61)
Lamb (0)
Lockyer (0)
Meredith (16)
Mitchell (0)
Mumford (61)
Parker (13)
Pyke (28)
Reid (23)
Rohan (18)
Smith (52)
Spangher (32)
Walsh (0)
White (53)

Bolded are the ones i expect/hope to improve. Or make an impact on the 22 in the case of Armstrong, Lamb, Mitchell and Walsh.

Jack, Morton, Mal and Grundy to be full fit and firing.

Keen for the year ahead.

Football is a grand game, it brings all types together. Those that favour fulfilment and others fanning for failure. The Barlow reference reflects one group greatly - the glass half empty emissaries.
JESSELENKO:diamond:SUPERSTAR is in peak condition, for a first time at this time. Nowt is negating his build up unlike before. This season is crucial for club and conscript, and time will tell which group gets theirs.

Another angle of optimism to be had Membling from your likely list, is that they the Bolded. Have plenty more winters in them!:footy:

And hopefully our cup will be overflowing come completion of season 2012 Bra Baja!:footy:

Love the optimism Barry but I don't share it. I can't see our forwards improving to the level they need to challenge. As I said in an earlier post:

I sometimes think that I watch a different game. IMHO our forward line last year was a mess. Reid took some great contested marks but didn't kick what he should have kicked. Spangher made an impression with his enthusiasm and effort, particularly compared with Jesse. Rohan had his moments late, but it was mainly left up to Goodes, Jude and O'Keefe floating forward. McGlynn was disappointing after a great 2010 and our other crumbers were non-existent.

Look at the Hawthorn game: our delivery was pitiful and our forward's poor defensive pressure allowed the Hawks to dominate from FB or HB with fast break footy killing us.

And now I hear how good Walsh is (after ZERO games!) and how many forward options we have? lmao. Reality people! Walsh is a 2-3 year proposition, Reid must improve both his kicking and his defensive pressure, Spangher has to stay, McGlynn's crumbing has to get back to his 2010 standard, and Jesse isn't any answer to any question, forward, back or ruck! We need some fleet footed mongrel crumbers like Milne, Schneider, or even Ballantyne, and I don't see them on our list. I simply can't see us kicking enough goals to be a threat to Hawks, Collingwood, Geelong or Carlton.

I hope I am proved wrong but where are the goals going to come from amongst our list of honest toilers (excluding Goodes!)? Answers please!

Go the Bloods!
