After a long silence, the game revealed at E3 at few years back known as Overstrike has reappeared with a new name, Fuse.

Insomniac's (developers of Ratchet and Clank, and Resistance) first cross platform game.

It's a 3rd person co op shooter, featuring the Insomniac staple that is the best weapons in the gaming world. Launching March 2013.

Super pumped. Insomniac > rest.

Insomniac > rest.
You sure are a funny one Mr.Coxy. I guess you forgot about Naughty Dog, it's ok, you're forgiven.

It's interesting that Insomniac dropped the cartoon aesthetic in order to go more grittier. Because we need more gritty games nowadays?

It's not the worst thing in the world, as Insomniac know what makes a good game regardless of aesthetic, but it does scream of a publisher thinking that Overstrike as it was would hold no credence with fans and needed to go for something more in-line with what's out there now. Could they already be regretting the move to a big publisher that stamps it's approval over everything?

It's coming out pretty bloody quickly though and in a terrible time for big games, where there are so many other quality titles crammed into the first few months of 2013 already, with GTA V likely to join at some stage.

Can't help but think this might be doomed on the sales front regardless of how good the game is. Wouldn't be surprised if it's bumped.

I'll keep an eye on it, as I absolutely loved Resistance 3 (and Q-Force could be one of, if not the best downloadable title of the year), but I don't know if I'll be able to give it much time.

Hopefully we get some gameplay quickly.

Where's the vids or images......
There's basically nothing.

One video, that shows nothing:

There are 7 screenshots though at (just look at everything from September): http://au.ign.com/images/games/fuse-ps3-75337

I am primarily a co-op gamer, and third person>>>>>>>>>>first person for me. So this is right up my alley, yet I cannot muster any ****s to give about this game. Insomniac just seem to keep sliding. I played the hell out of R2 co-op, when they dropped that in R3 I was out. Then I played some Ratchet game for free, and stopped playing halfway through. Just wasn't fun.

Now this.... looks so generic. They've clearly been EA'd on this title. Then to top it off, March? Really? March belongs to Kratos. GTFO of his way.

It's sad, but it seems Insomniac is now a tier below the best devs.

No. It was the one you got for free after PSN got hacked. Quest For Booty. I've played R+C games on the ps2 and enjoyed them, but this one seemed very "meh". They made you use six axis for one of the weapons which I hated (tornado thrower or something) and then they sit you on a prolonged, boring turret sequence where you monotonously shoot down projectiles from a ghost ship for an eternity. I had to turn it off. Just wasn't having fun. Being a psn game seemed to really affect the game, whole thing felt kind of shortchanged.

Only three games I have started and not finished this gen.

-Heavenly Snore
-WipeArse HD
-Quest For Booty

Generic game gets a generic trailer.

I want to like what they're trying to do, because I know Insomniac know how to make fun games. But this just looks focus tested to the nth degree and looks like EA have just had way too much influence in terms of what Insomniac wanted and then what has resulted. EA want sales, so they get their way. It's lost any charm it had and any uniqueness that it had too, which is very disappointing.

Some news on one of the co-op modes too, seems it might be similar to Resistance 2's.

So the new thing you're releasing this time is...

Echelon. It's how funny, people ask me what's the right way to pronounce it. You pronounce it both ways, "eschelon" or "etchelon".

Nice one, and it's sort of a Horde Mode thing right?

It's wave based in that you do fight waves of enemies but we switch out the rules on you all the time. And it's much more of an offensive mode than typical traditional wave modes. It's more of an offensive game mode than most other wave-based game modes in that some of the sub modes, most of the sub modes, in this game mode are offensive, you are actually going after certain things versus just trying to defend yourself.

It's probably better if I go through the six modes. So the first one is probably the most straightforward, that's Carnage. Carnage you're trying to kill everybody, the enemies will show up, work together, but you've got to take them all down with your team. The second, or an other mode, is High-Value Target, where you have a mini-boss who appears in the game and the longer he stays a live the more enemies he brings into the battle with him, so you've got to try to take him down pretty quickly, and they're super aggressive.

So sort of a focus fire.

Yeah, and what's cool, what's fun is that the person who actually scores the killing blow gets a big bonus in terms of fuse credits. There is Hot Zone, which is probably one of our only defensive modes where you are defending an area with a fuse canister in the middle of it, a fuse cell. The fuse cell will recharge your xenotech if you stay near it, but the enemies will try to destroy it, so you've got to keep it going until the time runs out.

There is Prime Threat which is our boss round - Prime Threat takes one of the larger bosses in the game and you've just got to surive, try to take him down. There's Critical Drop, Critical Drop where throughout the maps we will drop big boxes full of supplies and cash and weapons, and the enemies and you are racing to get them, and the enemies will destroy them if they get there first but if you get there you get some pretty cool stuff. You get weapons you normally can't pick up.

Delayed. Not only are they copying off every other shooter out there with the game, but copying all the big titles by delaying their title. Tut tut tut.

EA has delayed Fuse to the first quarter of its 2014 fiscal year, placing its release some time between April 1st and June 30th, 2013.

Fuse was previously scheduled for March, but EA COO Peter Moore explained during an earnings call this afternoon that it will receive some “extra work” which he promised will deliver a “big payout.”

Dev commentary of the horde mode.

I'm just gonna say it, this game looks shit. Hopefully Insomniac see the light and go back to Sony after this flops hard.

Ahead of it's release this week, Fuse has been given some very average review scores.

Sitting on 65 and 69 respectively on 360/PS3.

IGN gave it a 6.5, Destructoid a 4/10. Seemingly confirming the fears that this game is just a poor cliche rip off, of what's already out there.

This is a loud, chaotic, and fun bit of extraordinary violence in an otherwise lighthearted world, but it rarely achieves the greatness it strives for. If you can overlook the tonal inconsistencies, Fuse’s shallow, familiar shooting can thrive. Success comes when the unacceptable teammate A.I. is replaced by a group of friends unleashing the awesome power of their alien-powered weaponry. Fuse is an all-or-nothing experience, though. Bring a full crew or don’t waste your time.

+ Fun Co-op
+ Cool Weapons
- Bad A.I
- Confused tone
- Baffling story

Whether it's true or not, Fuse does feel every bit like another victim of the heavily focus-tested, leader following, perpetually terrified mainstream game industry. It's every cloying and desperate element of the retail console market, brought together -- fused, if you will -- to create a factory standard example of a game that tries to be everything the hypothetical mainstream consumer drools over, and ends up as nothing remarkable.

With EA Partners no longer a thing, I wonder if Insomniac will go back to Sony?

How does going back to Sony help them in any way? They haven't made a good game in yonks. All that Sony/EA/*insertpubhere* do is pump resources in and ultimately limit creative direction.
Think the problem may sit with the dev on this one.

Resistance 3 was great. Applied horror to the FPS genre well and also brought back some well missed tropes of FPS gameplay as well (tons of guns/weapon wheel/health packs). Good boss fights, great mechanics and the weapons were fantastic.

Going back to Sony means that Insomniac can create what they want and how they want.

Everyone knows that Fuse went from being Overstrike, an interesting, cartoony game with flamboyant characters and character design to a brown and grey cover shooter with muted characters all because EA wanted a game that would appeal to the mass market rather than something that may appeal to less.

Sony don't enforce creative direction over their developers, several devs have stated as much.

Geez, reviews haven't been favourable so far. Love Insomniac's work on the resistance games. Very underrated sadly - great weapons, tight controls, interesting story/setting. Hoping to see a Resistance 4 someday, hopefully with Insomniac the developers.

Why does everything EA touch have to turn to shit? Curse you EA!!!
