Hi All,

Just did minor analysis of our kettle for replacements based on weight, height, speed, ability to get ball from inside and general trend of tall midfielders.

Weve got 5 good core replacements for like for like, only difference being slightly shorter than what we have now, hopefully Blakey, Weller increase in height and some others also.

Your thoughts?

I think this needs to be broken down a little bit more than just size.

Running ability/Speed/Disposal/Contested ball winner etc

We are lacking hard running, fast, distributing wingers. We have Weller unproven, Crozier tried but not conditioned.

Mzungu should be in there. I also feel fairly confident about Langdon.

I don’t really get the idea of like for like replacement. By the time they are ready the game and our game plan will have evolved as it has with Crowley.

I think you answered your own question about Mundy. Sutcliffe is capable of playing his role with a few changes IMO. Then in comes Gray, Hughes etc. to the backline role he currently occupies.

I think your time left might be a bit off. Mundy's still one of the best mids in the league and isn't going backwards. I can see him playing at least another 4. And Fyfe's not allowed to retire ever.

Going to result in some disgruntled younguns on the list, possibly looking for a trade.

Clancee is a backmen not core midfield lol.
Your list includes Walters, Sutcliffe, Crozier and Suban who are a fair way from being core mids for us as well. Reality is C Pearce can play midfield, and going forward is one of our future options.

Clancee is going through the midfield now as a tagger ,he is an elite kick into the forward 50 . He started with the Club as a HHF but that is not his role in the team any more .
RTB is using his strength to apply pressure to opposition mids and his ability to keep his feet in a contest . He is one of our best at delivering the ball to the forward by hand and foot .

Interesting to look at Freo in 2017 (excluding new draftees, mature agers, free agent acquisitions):

Gone are: Pav, Sandi, Mcpharlin, Crowley, Duffield, Johnson, Sylvia, Mundy? (32yo)

D Pearce, Dawson, Ballas, Mzungu, Griffin, Barlow, Spurr, Silvagni all 30 or 31 yo by then.

Backs: C Pearce Dawson Spurr
HB: Sutcliffe A. Pearce Ibbo
C: Sheridan Fyfe Hill
HF: Mayne Taberner Walters
F: Crozier Apeness Ballas

R: Clarke Barlow Neale

IC: Mzungu, D Pearce, Blakey, Weller, Duffy, De Boer, Suban, Langdon

Thats still a bloody strong team with no list changes and no bolters or free agents. Particularly strong in the midfield.

Its a finals team. In order for it to be a premiership challenger/team all we need are (a) development from Tabs, Apeness, A Pearce or acquisition of someone like Rance, Mccarthy, perhaps Mason Shaw (plus development) and another ruckman to maintain our KPP output; (b) Several of Croz, Sherro, Blakey, Weller, Langdon or Duffy making a big leap like Lachie Neale has within that time frame, we should get at least 1-2 guns out of that group which would maintain or improve our midfield depth/output; and (c) perhaps a few astute draft selections, rookies or mature agers for added depth.

(a) to (c) are all likely and achievable so I reckon with some luck we will be alright in the post Pav-Sandi-Mcpharlin era.
