It's time
We are no hope of a flag otherwise
Give him eight weeks up there to organise himself with Pav and the smalls
Hawthorn confirmed it today - the Sandi tap to Fyfe at every clearance is too predictable by far. Get Barlow back in the guts and give it a go FFS

Or play Taberner forward. Barlow, Neale, Fyfe and Mundy need to play in the guts with each other. Mickey is wasted as Half Forward.

Yep Fyfe only to come in the middle when we're down, 80% in forward. Big jobs for Barlow and Mundy to win it. Now or never for Hill.

Blakely and/or Weller HAVE to be given a shot.

If he went forward nobody would be able to get it to him. Do we ever win centre clearances when he isn't there?

He's our best midfielder, but I see a whole bunch of midfielders on our list that can't get into the 22 or are played out of position when they get in. I see no one else on our list that can make our forward line competitive. No one that is even a natural target. Fyfe commands the ball, put him up there and see what happens

I like your thinking Square Peg.

Sandi wins a gazillion taps every week and we still lose the clearance or win them narrowly.

Let's get unpredictable, change it up and maybe one of the new kids will step up and perform.

Watching Hawthorn waltz it out of clearances so easily today says we are too easy to counter as it stands.

Fyfe could be our second marking target up forward and could be the x-factor that wins us a flag.

Line up like this;

B: Ibbotson McPharlin Spurr
HB: Mzungu A Pearce C Pearce
C: Hill Barlow D Pearce
HF: Walters Taberner Crozier
F: Pavlich Sandilands Fyfe
R: Clarke Neale Mundy
Int: Sutcliffe Sheridan Blakely
Sub: Weller

Ideas behind this side:

- Defenders must be good defenders first and foremost.

- Get the most out of your cattle. For example: Clarke can only play one position to an acceptable standard, play him there.

- Force more unpredictability by removing Sandilands and Fyfe from the majority of stoppages. (Definitely not all of them, though)

- Get some marking power up forward.

- Football ability > experience.

I have been saying this for a long time. He needs to go forward, and we need to bring in an inside mid to replace him. Even if we lost more clearances, I think our defence would be good enough to rebound it out. We need players like Mick Barlow to lift because his impact in games is non-existent.

Barlow's best position is inside mid - move Fyfe forward, Barlow to the middle and Weller to a HFF.

Yep, CHF is where he can become one of the greats. Duck reckons it's where Fyfe was born to play. He was shifted there for half a game and looked a little lost but we just have to stick with it and construct a mid set up without him.

No, leave Fyfe in the middle & rest forward occasionally.

The reason we aren't scoring much is cause of our defense. Rounds 1-9 we had Johnson, Duffield & Suttcliffe all playing and in form. They are our creative run & kicks off half back. Since round 9 Johnson got injured, Duffields form disappeared & Suttcliffe (with the extra responsibility) couldn't execute as normal & as a result, form dropped. We are still conceding little and are stingy as usual, but our rebound has significantly stopped. Midfield is getting back to help the defense out more than usual so the boys are getting their possessions in the back half rather up the ground.

Dawson & Johnson are our missing links. not Fyfe forward

I reckon Fyfe is penciled in at CHF in the near future, we just have to wait until Weller and Blakely come on but for now I don't see the sense in moving the best player in the competition from his most dominant role given his biggest weakness would be goal kicking. Maybe up his time spent there but not a permanent move.

It's a tough one aye. IMO Barlow, Mundy, Neale, Hill and DP is a pretty good midfield. It might not be the best but that's ok. We currently have the best and it's worth squat if we're not scoring.

It would certainly eliminate the predictability i.e. Sandi to Fyfe x 30

One thing we can say it will only get better we just need to hold onto top 2 till they come.

This is part of the problem with Freo, go and look up D Pearce stats for the Hawks game, and what position does Barlow play now? Mundy, Pearce are
close to thirty, and will need to find other roles, positions to keep Freo improving.
Then have a look at WC, and the position Wellingham is playing, his time in the game looked over.

In terms of grabbing a flag tho what is the best approach?

The Derby will be very interesting this year, and the winner will have the best chance from the west for the flag. It all depends on Ross Lyon and
how he reacts, changes the team for the better.
As for the posters who think the kids are not ready, congrats Dom Sheed for the rising star nomination.

I have always said Johnson is our 2nd most important player, as he is the only defender who can genuinely hurt the opposition. Having him out is perhaps the best thing to happen? Surely Duffield and Sut will perform better when he is back and maybe even improve?
