Fyfe Forward

Fyfe - Bennel - Walters.

An electrifying trifecta of dangerous, unpredictable and precociously talented young men who are yet to reach their peak. That is, they are going to be significantly better than they have shown so far.

All of them can be dominant in either the midfield or the forward line. In fact if they were asked to ruck against Sandilands you wouldn't write them off. But in the absence of a traditional forward structure they are major players even if on a part time basis.

That is the gift we have waiting for us in 2016.
This will work if Pav is rested ( manage him for final series) thus create interchange position of HF and mid ( Weller,Neale, bennell, ballas, fyfe and walters)

Hills,mundy (mid, HB)

Minus Pav (forward)
But add one roaming mid in line up.

Yeah, for the first time in 20+ years we have got the best player in the competition, lets remove him from that position and try new things.

Its no coincidence the team suffered when Mitchell kneed him, its because there isnt anyone that can do what he does in the middield. He is the best midfielder in the ****ing game, leave him their and let him do his thing.

We as a team need to be more versatile, and have the cattle to do so. This also creates greater ability to cover for injury, increase depth and harder
to match up on.
Every one knows Lyon's style, game plan from previous years, what was the point in bringing in coaches from the hawk system. etc, if we don't use
them?
It is too easy to combat our midfield, with the same rotations, players, style of play, talk about predictable. Can also see Fyfe being a target. Honestly
with the amount of pace, skill, available, why would you play a bash, crash style, with that much outside game available?

Finally :):thumbsu:, no what if.

Oh, I see. So we'll win a prelim with Nat in the midfield...as long as the other best 22 players aren't injured. Okay, let's just keep our central forward focus to the 34-year-old then.

Central forward, what the actual ****...

Now you are getting confused, one post was about 2015 the other 2014.

We were the best team in the comp with the best player in the comp halfway through 2015, then Mitchell the dog took it upon himself to change that.

Pav isnt going to be playing that many games this season so is it all then on Fyfe or could there be 4 or 5 other forwards that can step up?

If we run Nat Fyfe exclusively as a mid this year I can guarantee by midway through the season he will be banged up and injured again. You only have to look at the focus of the Richmond guys on Friday to bury and hurt our best player.

So... we can doggedly say "we must play our best midfielder in the midfield" or we can think outside the square and try to preserve him so he impacts the entire season. Fortunately Ross is the coach and he has indicated - as has Fyfe himself - that Fyfe will be spending significant time forward.

If he is managed well not only do we hopefully keep him fresh for longer periods, but he can also impact the scoreboard, which is where we most need to improve. Win - win in my books.

I though that is the reason we trial Walters, ballas in mid and Weller learning a bit inside mid from Rocky for.

I dont disagree but if they want to hurt Fyfe they will, do we not play him in the fear they are going to be dog campaigners?

Regardless, if playing Fyfe forward has him ready to go come round 16/17 as a full time midfielder then im all for it.

Pav will play every game if he's fit, unless we get out to a 2 game lead at the top of the ladder again.

Who else was the central focus up forward in either of those years who did anything?

There will be more injuries this year, more players targeting Nat and his dodgy back. There is no perfect season where that happens and we certainly shouldn't plan for it. We need someone who is a reliable mark. I wouldn't say that about any of our towards right now, not even Pav.

Yeah no one, absolutely not one...

Thats rough considering where Fyfe is ranked in the comp for marking!

Fyfe is a contested beast, and if he is in the midfield he will be at the bottom of the pack and getting belted time after time - it's not just about dog acts, it's about a body getting monstered continually. It will wear out and break!

Give him periods forward where we can see the marking, crumbing and goal kicking skills he showed early in his career. I'd be happy to get him to the final series in pretty good nick then unleash the beast when it counts. The end of last year was sad, watching him bust his gut (and leg!) when he was obviously not fit.

Yes but he isnt going to not throw himself at the football if its in dispute when he is playing forward, he doesn't have that weakness programmed in him. He also isnt going to stop jumping across or into packs to take marks (see friday night). Fyfe is his own worst enemy!
