So with Fyfe and Walters retiring it leaves Pearce as the only player on our list to have played for us before 2017. Kinda crazy to me.
The 2016 AFL Draft feels like yesterday to me.

Darcy has now been on our list second longest having been the earliest pick remaining. Obviously Cox and Ryan are still around too.

To paraphrase a proverb that resonates with Nat:

“Before retirement announcement, chop wood, carry water. After retirement announcement, chop wood, carry water”.

On what is shaping up to be a night of high and complexly layered emotions, he’ll be keeping the group grounded and focused on the task at hand.

I’m nothing but a numpty supporter, but I’m super proud that Nat and Fremantle will forever be linked.

There's not much more to add at this stage of the thread, but something I haven't seen too much comment on is Fyfey's ability to handle the wet ball and dominate in wet games.

I'd go as far as to say he's the best wet weather player I've ever seen.
Early in the thread I repeated an anecdote that came from a Freo assistant years ago about seeing Fyfe on his day off when it was pissing down rain, running around by himself in a local park with a footy. Rolling it around, practicing picking it up and handling it.
It’s no accident Fyfey got as good as he did. Unbelievable natural gifts combined with a fierce dedication and work ethic.

I quite literally teared up in this interview.

Don't cry that its over..
Be happy that it happened...

I am. I cried from how well Fyfe describes his journey & the process of accepting his footy mortality.
He’s a very wise & charismatic speaker. I have never admired a sport star more but it’s about how he conducts himself as much as his immense talent.

That is what makes him one of the greats.

Like all of you, I've loved watching Fyfe's career unfold. I distinctly remember watching the 2009 draft and thinking who the hell is this guy we've just picked up?! It didn't take long to see what a special player he was.

I collect Freo player issue jumpers/guernseys including match worn ones. I'm on the look out for a Fyfe match worn. If anyone has one that they'd like to sell or trade then I'd love to hear from you. Cheers!

I have admired Fyfe over the last decade the most. When he was the very very good young player he seemed entirely self-focused and selfish; kinda Steve Smith-like. I wasn’t a big fan of making him captain.

But he really grew into the captaincy, and has become a great team guy. He talked about personal growth through adversity; that’s what I saw, watching him. From a gun player who didn’t seem much liked by his team-mates, to a guy who seems really respected, who stuck with our sad side through more thin than thick.

It’s been a privilege watching the journey. Now it’s the last chapter… here’s hoping the boys can make it into an epic. And that the footy gods smile on us for a change.

I know where you're coming from, but I think you'll find that the team-mates who really mattered always loved the guy. Just listen to Sonny talk about him to get an idea of how he is viewed.

We had a few bad eggs who apparently didn't like him but that was their issue, not his.

Drive & ambition can definitely be misconstrued by those not on the same page.

a lot has obvioulsy been said about his on field achievements and efforts but we really are lucky as a club to have him as a leader and spokesman as we did. a really wise and thoughtful man, can only really sum him up as 'great'. will be interested to see what he does post footy

Geeze, I love this bloke. Either floating across or bashing his way through, over and over again, he really was the best.

I once saw him carrying the pill on his left hand, shaping up to handpass, and then he rotated his hand inward 90 degrees, turning the pill toward himself, parallel to his body, and then he punched it through - behind his left elbow - to a bloke running up alongside just entering his peripheral vision. ****ing genius.

A solid-bodied fighter who routinely defied the binds of earth. An artist and a blacksmith, smashing things on his own ridiculously strong body, until finally he smashed himself.

How ****ing good was he?

No-one gets handed a fairytale ending - they just happen. But if anyone deserved one?

It's got to be Nathan Fyfe.

Cross yourself before battle five more times, Fyfey. Bring the strength of calm.

Have absolutely loved reading every single post in this thread. Thank you all.

It is obvious that Fyfe has had a profound influence on this club, his teammates, his coaches, and all of us Docker fans.

Good players come and go from Clubs.

Champions stand head and shoulders above all others and live on forever.
