The incumbent is more likely to retain the role, unless he is a disaster.

Mundy was not a disaster. He speaks well, deflects criticism and doesn't add to a controversy.
I think he is very likely to retain the captaincy, even though many of the players who voted for him are gone.

If 2016 and our 2017 pre-season wasn't a disaster .....

That's not what I said, Moo.

Was Mundy's captaincy a disaster?

And so far, our preseason is better than last years. More running, more intensity, more (but still not enough) on the park.

Can someone enlighten me on this - are we the only team where the players vote the leadership group in? Crumpet is going on and on about how we should just appoint Fyfe vs having players pick, but isn't a player vote how the rest of the 17 clubs do it? I'm confused.

To me 2016 was a disaster, and I'm certainly not impressed with the lack of discipline so far off the field.

Nothing against fyfe , mundy deserve another crack . bad year , pav the great retired , bennell no show , Sandi broken ribs , fyfe and a.Pearce broken leg . give mundy at least one more year . Let fyfe concentrate on footy and leadership group and finalise his contract in 2017 . 2018 will be the perfect year for him to be captain fyfe.

Not like you to pick on a scape goat. How is Mundy responsible for this?
I said that Mundy was not a disaster. And he wasn't.

The season was a disaster. Obviously. If I betted, I would bet that Mundy will get the gig again, because he deserves a chance to captain the side for a second year.

Btw Yarran's latest charge happened while Pav was captain, and Yarran was a Subi player. But yeh, let's blame Mundy for that too.

Don't take it personally Clem it's only an opinion, no one is going to storm the building if Mundy gets another crack.

I dont think he handled the captaincy very well, in fact I think it affected his game, that's my observation. I also don't think he would be too bothered if Fyfe got the nod.

I think fyfe won't be too bother if mundy be the captain too. he don't need to rush to signed his contract extension .

I didn't take it personally. But the bovine put up a photo of the Iraqi information minister, which was just stupid. And out of character. And I called him out on it.

I think Mundy could have done better, but he was competent in his job. I also don't think it affected his game. Lack of a preseason and injuries affected his game.

We will see this season then one way or another

IMO if Fyfe isn't captain next year he will walk elsewhere. Mundy is one of our best but unfortunately is not a natural leader and to be voted in again wil be a reflection of Fyfes standing in the playing group not Mundy's leadership ability.

You think Fyfe's tenure at Fremantle is that fragile that he will cut and run if he isn't made skipper?

Fyfe will stay, irrespective of the captaincy. Now, if he was booted from the leadership group, that would be a different matter.

Mundy - not a natural leader? Maybe, but he has been a part of Freo's leadership group for a long time now, and was probably looked at as next in line by a narrow majority of the players. This year was a bad one for Mundy, thanks to a poor preseason and ongoing injuries, but he has had years of onfield leadership. Some posters on here have short memories.

I think that Mundy is very likely to retain the Captaincy. To take it off him would be setting the blame for 2016 on his shoulders, when the blame needs to be shared with all players and coaches.

Fyfe is the greatest footballer on the planet. But he hasn't been able to show too much on field leadership this year. He should get back to doing what he does best: win games, get Brownlow votes and support Mundy and the rest of the leadership team in getting Freo as far as possible in 2017.

Mundy spoke very well at yesterday's conference. His body language was fine. He is a leader, and has even part of the leadership group for years. You are just seeing what you want to see.
Fyfe, in my opinion, will not need the captaincy to extend his contract. He is part of the leadership group.
I don't think so. I deal with a lot of leaders. I'm a leader myself. His body language - look at when he's asked a semi-tough question, he shifts his weight and looks away. I'm not having a go at him, he's a great player and a great member of the leadership group, but he's no captain.

Did anyone bother to listen to what Lyon said about Cleaver, captaincy, integrity of process???
Like anyone at all???
I did and exactly the reason why the playing group shouldn't have a tough decision around voting our only Brownlow medalist as their captain. Mundy v Fyfe as captain should be a landslide vote but obviously it's not to those that support Mundy as captain.

Dont disagree, but your logic shouldn't have an influence on a player/coach vote. Players will be voting for as the best captain and leader in 2017 for Fremantle which IMO is Nat Fyfe. Previous experience, blame for 2016 are irrelevant to voting and if they vote Mundy it's a reflection on Fyfe's standing in then group.
