At the Eagles it's the players plus the coaching staff votes that determines who the Captain will be. Not sure how teams outside WA do it though.

I hold no qualms that Mundy deserves nothing but our respect, and just because I want Fyfe means really very little as I am just expressing a view.

In reality - we (and by we I mean you and not me) know very little about these guys, we don't live & breathe nearly every waking moment with them.

When I coached I always let the boys pick their captain (from 16 & up), and they arrived at what I thought was a decent choice about 80% of the time ....however it is their call, he's the one they need to follow and at this level you would think the popularity contest aspect is dead.

I don't want Fyfe because he is our best player, however no harm done that he leads by example - however he is very eloquent too and hey I like that as me much good with words too.

Sonny is the left fielder who if we are talking about leadership by action, well he makes me want to be a better supporter.



So that's why Suban has stayed with us for so long ......so let's make Suban captain?

This part of your argument doesn't stack up...
You say that incumbents don't get an advantage when players vote? They do in every other form of election.

But then you say a vote for the incumbent is a direct reflection on Fyfe. How did you make that logical somersault? Maybe it's a vote for Mundy and support of him and his leadership, and not a vote against Fyfe.

We already know the vote in 2016 was very close between the two. Fyfe had a lot of support. His standing is very high. But by being out of the team for most of the year, he hasn't had the chance to improve his standing in the Leadership area.

Why you don't put yourself in freo club shoes . A player not yet sign contract extension, rarely play last season , will he walk out if freo not making final in 2017 due to his ambitions and competitive nature .

Agreed. If we have to make Fyfe captain to keep him then we are better off losing him now. If he has the confidence and support of the coaching staff and his team mates then he will be captain. If he doesn't, and is made captain by an executive decision then we will lose more than just one player I think.

Ross is a clever man and answered this question to the T, whilst batting away the true intent of the question. "How the captaincy is voted for" will remain the same, but whether it sways in the minds of the players is unknown
