If the Gabba has to be the Track and Field venue and if it can be made work by removing lower level seating at each end and constructing a temporary stand the length of the Southern Stand by continuing the first elevated level out onto the current grass combined with a revamp and new access from the Station it might just work and limit disruption to a year or 2.
As a long term Member I am invested in what is the best solution for the Clubs future. As a Queenslander I am interested in staging the best games that we can afford.

I agree about the possible massive hit on the Lions membership and that is a valid point.
Hopefully the AFL will come to the party some way or another.
How i am not sure. We will have to wait and see what the new playing venue will be.
From that point a better assessment can be made.

A way for the Club to retain membership during these years is to announce beforehand that first choice of new Gabba seating will go to current members. Also, length of membership gets first choice from that group of current members.
Membership for these years could be discounted that is one way the AFL & club may be able to contribute.

I just wish the Qld Government would make a decision and announcement.
The Qld Government last sitting days this year are 28, 29 & 30th Nov.
The next sitting days are not till 13, 14 &15th Feb 2024.
You would think something will be announced in the next 3 days.

Yes, it keeps getting mentioned but who knows until it is actually announced.
Initially the premier discounted the RNA but has not said much the last 4 months on that front.
BCC Lord Mayor pushing for the RNA but are council putting any funds into the project.

Thats good to know.
I assume the Government have asked the Club to not say anything until it is announced by them.
However, if the Government doesn't say something soon it will leak anyhow.
Maybe it already has but just not confirmed.

Two take outs from this week’s media:
  • they are aiming to have the new Gabba ready for the Ashes test in Dec 29. So four full seasons elsewhere.
  • Summer of 26/27 is a four test series so Queensland will miss out. I think 27/28 is also a four test series, so it may only be one test match in 28/29 that might need an alternative QLD venue.

So just Play the BBL and maybe one test at Metricon and cricket is sorted. Reckon this makes BHA more likely for Lions,

Add on the Summer of 26/27, apparently there will be two tests being played at MCG with one in summer against New Zealand and another in March against England (in 150th anniversary celebrations).
