Huge news for the local retail market:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/05/game-australia-has-gone-into-administration/

Now some of you may go, "Hey look at him gloating" and don't get me wrong, at a business level this is very good news, but you must feel for the employees that have to provide for their kids and the such. I have 2 kids and couldn't imagine the stress it would bring

Its all up in the air and it looks like at this early stage, they will not be stocking Diablo 3

They have been pretty poorly run for some time now and with their parent company struggling (and closing down many stores in the UK) the writing has been on the wall for a while

The UK guys had a buyout, so it may happen here...EB??!!! GET ON IT GLENNO!;)

Hopefully in the meantime it can be super cheap games on discount (like the last time everyone thought they were going out of business), if there is you know where to alert.

Apart from that...kind of an obvious and expected move.

Found this funny in light of them not stocking Diablo 3.

Un/Surprisingly haven't put anything up on their social media or websites. Guess they're going to leave their customers in the dark for as long as possible.

Was always going to happen. With the prices of games these day most people buy online as it is, not to mention JB and EB were already house hold names and people dont like change.

Plus, how many game stores is there? I can only think of one ive seen (frankston)

Highpoint and Watergardens have them

We had one down here in Westfield plaza, but with EB games and JB across the road in Market Square plaza, it failed pretty quickly. I've never seen another one.

Can't say it was a big shock.

Hopefully they have another crazy clearance sale.

And on D3 i know someone that pre ordered it thru them and it is still right to pick up release day(+ onine orders have been sent), so Im guessing they will fullfill pre orders maybe but let the rest go thru to the keeper.

Only good for pre owned sales anyway

Trade prices went to shit about a year ago, refusal to price match competitors, specials on new games store based and not the same across the whole franchise, changing the rewards scheme so you have to spend nearly double to get the same amount as before and having very little range (ps3 stock at both local stores is pathetic) its like they refuse to re order games once they run out of stock.

Doesn't surprise me that they'll probably go under, looking forward to grabbing some bargains in the coming weeks.

Feel for the staff though, more knowledgable than the drones they have at the local eb games.

Guess I'll preorder max payne 3 and Black Ops 2 at JB then

The Westfield and Corio Village stores in Geelong closed maybe a year ago. Both were located just doors away from an EB Games [there's an EB Games upstairs in Westfield as well as over the road in the Market Square].

Forgot about the EB in Westfield. I usually just go to the market square one, since JB is right next to it, and I can utilise both easily :thumbsu:

One at Knox and Eastland too, usually nothing special in terms of deals or pricing, never seemed to pricematch stating that 78 dollars was below cost etc. So meh no real surprise only thing they were good for was the occasional cheap accessory or ancient games to use as trade bait elsewhere.

Cheap games now or what ?
Have to wait until management make a decision.

They may get a buyer and all continues as normal. Or they don't and they close down, then all the games will be cheap as chips. And we'll be able to pick at the carcass like Vultures.

I read an article today sayi g they were looking into the reasons for their failure

Well I'm no expert by the high prices and shithouse customer service might be a good place to start looking
